Server Rules
Last updated: 24/APR/2021.

1.Cheating

All forms of cheating are strictly prohibited.
Depending on the severity of the cheats, you will first get kicked to give you a chance to remove your cheats and come back to play clean, the second one would be a direct ban. Some cheats that affect players severely will result into a direct full ban

1.2 Modifications

Players are allowed to use visual modifications. It is up to them to determine if the modification is capable of giving an unfair advantage, you are using them at your own risk. Claiming that you did not know an unfair advantage existed within the modification is not a valid defense. For further information about modifications see this post.
You will first be talked to and get kicked (if you don't leave on the spot and remove them by yourself that is) to give you a chance to remove your illegal mods and come back to play clean, the second time someone notices that you're still using these mods it will be a full ban. Some cheats that affect players severely will result into a direct full ban

1.3 Glitch/Script Abuse

Exploiting the script in any way that is unintended by the developers or using a bug or glitch in any way that gives you an advantage over other players and will result in a permanent ban. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Third one will be another talk and a full ban (could be a tempban for a day (1440 minutes) depending on the situation, the outcome of the discussion and the attitude of the player.

3.Deathmatching

Deathmatching is defined as attacking another player without a role-play reason and is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
You will first be talked and admin jailed to give you a chance to to stay in the game and think about your actions and how to fix them, the second offense, you will be talked to again and tempbanned for 12 hours (720minutes). The 4th time you will be talked with one final time and be copbanned for 2 weeks.

* Role-play scenarios which involve criminal activity inside a safe-zone can take place with authorization of a Snr Administrator+ to ensure that these scenarios are properly role-played.
* If a crime is committed outside of a safe-zone but during a chase said suspect enters a safe zone the pursuit may continue. Entering a Police Department or FBI Field Office will still be seen as turning yourself in.

4.Group/Family Rules
You will first be given a chance (48hours max) to make changes to keep your group, a repeat or disregarding staff team will lead to the group removal and a possible ban.

4.1 Group/Gang Wars
Once an attack is over the attackers should leave the area and return to their own territory. Any retaliation attacks may only be carried out THREE HOURS after the initial attack occurred (This does NOT mean dead players may return to the role-play situation). There must be valid grounds as to why you are attacking another faction, excuses such as; "we don't like them, they called us idiots" or anything else along those lines a staff member has all the right to put a stop to it.

If you have been killed and you don't know why, you may ask your killer for clarification.  If you are the killer and are being asked this question you are obligated to tell them the reason behind it.  If you are unhappy with the reason provided you may report them for further investigation.

You will first be talked and admin jailed to give you a chance to to stay in the game and think about your actions and how to fix them, the 2d offense you will be talked with and warned, the group will receive a 1st warning strike, the 3rd time you will be talked to again and tempbanned for 12 hours (720minutes) and the whole group will get a second warning strike. The 4th time you will be talked with one final time and be fully banned and the group will receive a 3rd warning strike.

5.Disruption to Players

Any action that unreasonably disrupts the game play of others outside of a role-play context is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
You will first be talked to and admin jailed or muted(given a banana) to give you a chance to stay in the game and think about your actions and how to fix them, the 2d offense you will be talked with and tempbanned for 2 hours (120minutes), the 3rd time you will be talked to again and banned.

5.1 Disruption to the Server or its Staff

Any action that unreasonably disrupts or interferes with the smooth running of the server is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

6. Chat rules

Misusing any chat window to disrupt the server and its players is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
You will first be talked to and muted(given a banana) to give you a chance to stay in the game and think about your actions and how to fix them, the 2nd offense you will be muted from performing any chat, the 3rd time you will be talked to again and tempbanned for 12 hours (720minutes).

6.2 Sensitive Discussions
You will first be talked to and warned to give you a chance to stay in the game and think about your actions and how to fix them, the 2nd offense you will be talked with and get banned.

6.3 Mis-Use of Advertisements

The advertisement command (/ad) is there so players can advertise legitimate in-game businesses and services, player may use it to hide inconspicuous advertisements that may mean something else. The following are a few examples of what you shouldn't be advertising.
You will first be talked to and get warned to give you a chance to stay in the game and think about your actions and how to fix them, the 2nd offense you will be talked with and get tempbanned for 6 hours (360 minutes).

7.Scamming

A scam is any act of dishonesty or fraud that is used for financial gain to the detriment of another player. Where this is done during any activity that is defined as "legal" it is prohibited, in addition any scam against a new player (not older then 1 month) is prohibited regardless of whether the activity is legal or illegal.

Items that are deemed illegal such as narcotics and weapons that have been scammed by another player during a transaction is not subject to punishment as it is allowed within the server. Examples of legal and illegal deals:

Scamming is also not permitted inside any official casino buildings by gambling through the Blackjack game or using dice. Gambling outside of a casino is not protected so we will not refund any lost money or items.

You are not allowed to engage in a gambling (inside a casino) without having the money you bet on you. Any betting of this sort will not be refunded, and the violator will be punished accordingly.

In case you get scammed by gambling inside a casino, only the money you gave as bet will be refunded, the earnings wont be given.

This will lead to a ban

8.Properties

9.Usage of Heavy Weapons/Heavy Vehicles
1st case would get you banned from using any heavy weapons or vehicles for 1 month (if you evade this you will e banned from the server with the one who assisted if there is any) 2nd time you will get banned.

9.1 Restricted Gates & Barriers
Abusing gates/barriers would get you warned on the first strike, banned from using barriers/restricted gates for 2 weeks on the second strike, banned from the server on the 3rd one.

10. Other Unfair or Unreasonable Behavior

Players are expected to behave fairly and reasonably at all times; any action or behavior that is deemed to be unfair or unreasonable is prohibited. The following are some examples of behavior that is unreasonable or unfair:
1st strike, you will be talked to and admin jailed, 2nd strike you will be warned, 3rd strike you will be banned for 2 hours, 4th you will be banned for a day, 5th you will be banned from the server.

10.1 Advertising

Advertising other servers or communities in any chat channel is strictly prohibited and will result a permanent removal from the server. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
This will lead to a ban

10.2 Multiple Accounts and Sharing Accounts
This will lead to a ban. (accidental cases will be talked to as usual)

10.3 Enticing or Encouraging Rule Breaking

Intentionally engaging in any act that is likely to directly encourage a player to break the rules is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:
The punishment will depend on the rule broken, it could lead to a server ban or removal of a group etc..

10.4 Trading In-Game Items for Real Life Currency

Buying or selling, or offering to buy or sell, any in-game item including, but not limited to, characters, items or currency for real-life money is prohibited.

This will lead to a ban

10.5 Naming Your Character
You will be given a free chance to change your name, rejecting the namechange or changing to another offending name will lead to a ban.

10.6 Ban Evading

If a player has been banned from the server, whether it is a full ban or a temporary ban, he may not enter the server on any account until the ban has been formally lifted.

Any sort of bypassing said punishment or ban evading might result in a permanent denial from being unbanned.

11.Administrative enforcement of unlisted rules or offenses

Although we strive to cover as much ground as possible with our rules while also maintaining a concise, clear tone, it is unrealistic for a new rule to be created for every single possible situation that may occur in an environment as dynamic as Argonath's. Therefore, administrators are permitted to use their powers for infractions or situations not specifically outlined in the rules at their discretion in order to enforce a positive and friendly server atmosphere. Administrators may also use their powers to enforce regulations created by management in response to a newly released feature until the official rules list is updated accordingly.

Claiming that your offense "was not listed as against the rules" is not a valid argument to challenge an administrator's decision, which is always final. Spamming an administrator's PM with constant complaints impedes upon their ability to do their job efficiently and thus may be punishable. While it is completely reasonable to politely ask the punishing administrator for clarification on a decision that was made via PM, attempting to start an argument about the matter in public chat is disruptive to other players and will be dealt with accordingly.

Some examples of unlisted rules or infractions that may be enforced include, but are not limited to:

Administrators are entrusted to use their best judgment in any situation they may encounter while on duty and choose the best course of action, even if the situation at hand currently has no rules or regulations written about it. This is not to say that administrators are free to create and enforce their own rules however they please, nor can they make decisions that directly go against what is stated in the rules. Rather, administrators are simply given the wiggle room to act as deemed necessary in response to a server environment that is constantly moving forward. This will allow administrators to streamline the process of adapting to new and unfamiliar situations in order to more efficiently deal with disruptive influences or individuals attempting to bend the rules, and overall contribute to a more peaceful server environment for all players to enjoy. However, if you feel that an administrator's decision on a matter not discussed in the rules was unreasonable or unfair in some way, you can either ask a manager for clarification on the issue, or follow the steps listed in rule #12 on how to send a report on an administrator.

12.Interacting with Staff

The decisions of the administrators in the server must be accepted and followed without argument. Admins have a range of punishments, they have the authority to decide what action to take in any given situation. Note that something not appearing on this list is not a reason to argue with or ignore administration.

Administrators do have to follow a code of conduct and their use of commands is bound to a set of rules and guidelines that they must follow; if you feel an admin has misused or overstepped their position, or made an incorrect decision, it should be reported by using the report function on the forum or by sending an email to [email protected], it will be read by all members of HQ and acted upon if necessary.

When you interact with a staff member you need to remember one thing, which is that he is also a member of this community and a regular player of the server but with the responsibility to assist and maintain a good environment between the rest of the players, making sure that everyone is following the rules and not causing any trouble.

This is in no way a reason for you to be afraid to approach or talk to a staff member, but you do have to keep in mind that sometimes they wont be fully available to reply you if you're only wanting to have a chat because as it was said before, they have certain responsibilities and they must fulfill them accordingly to what is needed.

NOTE:
Each punishment will have a point, if a player reaches 20 points in 40 days, the player will be automatically banned for constant rulebreaking;
1 Banana = 1 point
1 Admin jail = 2 points
1 Warning = 3 points
1 Kick = 4 points(this includes kicks for afking in the middle of the road, be careful!)
1 Tempban = 10 points

We have updated the rules at 6th of January 2017 but due the old forum back we had to re-add them.

Removed
The rules regarding the command truck usage since the command truck does not have 10,000 vehicle health anymore.

Added
3.3 Police Rules
  • You can not taser a player that is actively shooting.

11. Administrative enforcement of unlisted rules or offenses
Although we strive to cover as much ground as possible with our rules while also maintaining a concise, clear tone, it is unrealistic for a new rule to be created for every single possible situation that may occur in an environment as dynamic as Argonath's. Some examples of unlisted rules or infractions that may be enforced include, but are not limited to:

  • Enforcing the rules of a player or admin-hosted event, and punishing those who choose to ruin the event for others.
  • Spreading slander (false information deliberately made to harm an individual's reputation) on a player or administrator.
  • Providing new players with weapons to bypass the passport limitation on buying weapons without taking the time to make them at least somewhat familiar with the rules, which indirectly encourages the new player to deathmatch. Giving a new player weapons with the sole intention of enabling the player to deathmatch others may be punished severely.
  • Taking advantage of a new player's lack of server knowledge for your own personal gain.
  • Roleplays or roleplay groups with themes that revolve around potentially controversial or offensive historical/current events, tragedies, or politics.
Administrators are entrusted to use their best judgment in any situation they may encounter while on duty and choose the best course of action, even if the situation at hand currently has no rules or regulations written about it. Due to recent discussed events, a new rule has been added to the 3.2 section regarding police situations involving weed fields.

Quote
  • You may not engage SAPD if they have taken over a weed field; this exclude the situations where you are the owner of said weed field but you went away and returned to find it being destroyed by police force. This is to prevent constant assault against police and unnecessary shootouts without removing the chance of recovering it. Once they have full control of the situation, any third party won't be allowed to interact with said field.

Section  2.Roleplaying Updated 06/05/2019

Previously:

CURRENTLY:

EDIT*
OOC is currently experimental, It has been added to see if it will actually be used to stick to character when roleplaying, Those who wish to stick to the old ways are free to do so, Although we encourage everyone to respect other peoples roleplay and stick to character rather than trolling mid RP on /l, If /ooc is used to insult or provoke we will have to take action, Although we want this honeymoon phase of the command to get people used to it's presence and open to the idea of using it.

Section  2.Roleplaying Updated 13/08/2019

Previously:

CURRENTLY:

Due to some previous HQ stances which stated that /pm could be used as a role-play method the section above has been edited to make it clear that /pm is not a roleplay chat and should not be used for IC communications.

Post by: Spike. on September 24, 2019, 11:02:21 pm
After a discussion within HQ, the following changes to the rules have been put into place.

Additions:
Quote
2.Roleplaying
 - You must role-play a realistic portrayal of fear for the character you're roleplaying within reason. For example, if you are outnumbered five to one by a rival crew you can not start shooting as if you were neo from the matrix with the expectation to kill all of them.
 - Powergaming shall be seen as a rule-break, never force an action or state on another player without giving them an opportunity to react and/or a choice.

3.2 Cop Hunting
 - You may not engage Law Enforcement in barricaded situations if you're not inside the building being barricaded (This applies to all barricaded situations including bank robberies). This is to avoid constant assault against police during negotiations. This means you can not "call for backup" while being barricaded inside a building, this does not apply to ambushes during pursuits, those are still allowed.
 - Ramming through a police barricade without proper role-play reason will be seen as cop hunting.

3.3 Police Rules
 - Drive-by from SWAT vehicles with 10,000HP is forbidden unless the said vehicle has reached 1,000HP and/or is in danger of exploding.

3.4 Safe-Zones
 - The following areas are assumed to be crime-free areas as they would normally be patrolled and secured by security forces in a role-play scenario.
-> Los Santos Airport (Terminal area where new players spawn)
  -> Law Enforcement Facilities
-> Banks (unless performing a bank robbery)
  -> Hospitals
  -> Fire Departments
  -> Courthouses
  -> City Halls

Changes:

Quote
3.2 Cop Hunting
 - If you are with another member of your current group/family/gang and they are wanted and you are not you may assist them in holding off the law, as long as you were present at that exact moment and not 300 feet away.  The same can apply if you are in a vehicle with someone who is wanted and you are not, you may open fire as you yourself have been attacked there-fore allowed to shoot back.  This only applies if you were in the vehicle at that time.

to:

3.2 Cop Hunting
 - If you are not with another member of your current group/family/gang and they are wanted while you are not you may assist them in holding off the law, as long as it's properly role-played. For example, requesting backup via /gm shouldn't be used as a valid reason. The same can apply if you are in a vehicle with someone who is wanted and you are not, you may open fire as you yourself have been attacked there-fore allowed to shoot back.  This only applies if you were in the vehicle at that time.

Due to the recent changes above, the following rule has been removed. It was badly worded and is no longer necessary.

Quote
  • Players must be somewhat realistic with their roleplay, give others a chance to respond to your role-play actions, giving them no chance to respond or forcing them into a situation is not allowed.

A small addition to the chat rules:

Quote
  • Do not shit-talk in /public chat after a shootout or situation, provocations and such will not be tolerated. If you feel any rules were broken contact /staff.

We've had enough of the shit talks in public, this rule applies to everyone civilians, police, criminals, sauron and the pope. Take it to a /cb or /pm.

Break this rule and you can expect a temp ban.

Update to 9. Usage of Heavy Weapons / Heavy Vehicles.

old:
Quote
  • RPG's can only be used against Aircraft's or Boats(if firing upon a taking off boat/plane/aircraft collateral damage is permitted)
  • Heavy Air (Hydra/Hunter) can only be deployed against aircrafts (Anything that operates itself within the air, and not on the ground.) or water vehicles (boats, hover crafts, etc)
  • Heavy Air (Hydra/Hunter) can return fire if fired upon, how ever heavy air is not permitted to stay at a scene if no aircraft or boat is being used, they are permitted to stay and hover nearby airspace after an aircraft or water vehicle was recently operated by the individuals they're after.
  • Heavy Air (Hydra/Hunter) must first issue warnings through the pilot radio or megaphone or marine radio before opening fire on the target.
  • Heavy Air (Hydra/Hunter) trainings must be done in non-populated areas such as overseas. It is always recommended not to fly a military aircraft nearby new players to not give them a wrong idea about the server and how it operates.

3.3 Police Rules
  • You are not allowed to place an APB after a suspect escapes /su (this is different from warrants). If you happen to place an APB, then find the criminal and suspect him using /su and he manage to run away (aka /rhl runs out), you must remove the APB since the suspect escaped else it will be considered script abuse.

Two rules added

2.Roleplaying
  • Roleplay takes priority over gunplay. Using your weapon to pressure someone is fine, but shooting or killing someone should always be your last resort. This also goes the other way around, if a weapon is aimed at you, roleplay along, you don't always have to have yours out instantly.(See "realistic portrayal of fear" rule)
  • Realistic demands are a requirement during roleplay, do not demand something that is unachievable for another player to accomplish, or something that doesn't make sense. Give other players a fair chance to roleplay with what your character wants.
