In Defense of Animals, an international animal rights and rescue organization, called for the boycott of the game because it allows players to run over and kill animals. The group feels such violence sends an unacceptable message to players, many of whom are children.
Jack Carone, a spokesman for In Defense of Animals, told TMZ the game propagates animal torture and "institutionalized violence" against animals.
"The makers of this game have traded decency for money" Carone told TMZ, adding, "Encouraging the darkest impulses of young people is not an admirable pursuit … Animals don't need any more targets painted on them in the name of fun."
It is not immediately known how the producers of the game, which was five years in the making, are going to react to the boycott demand.
"Grand Theft Auto V" has been the fastest-selling game in recent times, and just three days after the initial release of the “Grand Theft Auto V†on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game took in $1 billion in global sales. The fifth installment of the series is expected to continue raking in money for the next several weeks.
“'Grand Theft Auto' is a cultural phenomenon, and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, which is a developer, marketer and publisher of interactive entertainment, said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to 'Grand Theft Auto V'.â€Â

Oh well they are all a bunch of assholes, they care more about animals than other human beings. People are way to sensitive nowadays.
-
Lemme get this straight.. It's okay to run over people, which is what GTA players have been doing for more than 10 years, but it's not okay to run over animals? Oh yeah!
-
Yeah! Save the cows! :app:
-

The game is rated 18+ for a reason

And killing, robbing, molestering, torturing people isn't?
Encouraging
So because GTA 5 contains animals, they are suddenly encouraging it? It seems like a lot games need to be boycotted then.

This... You can kill people in the game too, how about that? Lol.

I'd throw that guy in a cage full of lions and throw him a shotgun.

a Shotgun? It would be too easy.
-
So we have been killing people since 1998(if I am correct), then a bunch of guys pop up defending "animal rights" that has been "violated" for just a week. They should defend humans' rights first, what a bunch of idiots.
Reminds me of the feminists insisting on adding female police officers to games and then complaining about gamers killing them.

Yeah, just wait until the feminist starts to moan that there are female officers in the game.
-
It allows you to kill humans and they aren't protesting about that. Get your damn priorities right people...
-
I took a coyote with a truck today. Felt great
-
a Shotgun? It would be too easy.
The point is that he will shoot lions, so other peoples should act like him now "OH GOD HE KILLED A LION ZOMG"
-
I can understand why they would be outraged, but it's a game after all. But Rockstars should have only included wild animals instead live cows and dogs.

Why? What is wrong with cows and dogs being on there? Millions of cows get slaughtered for McDonalds everyday, they don't complain then do they? But I guess it's worse if it's a cow getting ran over in a video game.
They don't complain when it comes to killing humans on the game, but they complain when it's animals, honestly thats like sending the UN into Syria to save all the cows from area's where bombs are going to be dropped but leaving all the people.

But having your rottweiler tear your enemies a new one is pretty sweeeet. You can also take your dog for a walk in the mountains, forests etc and have him scare the shit out of some joggers.

Again, game is set as 18 plus restriction for a reason. A normal person will never go around killing animals on the street.

As you said it is 18 plus ,People play games for Fun, as it is not MP so Rule breaking is allowed for an Individual...

When Grand Theft Auto III came out, they complained heavily about running over people. In a matter of time, they'll learn to get over this too. They need to remember that kids shouldn't be playing these games if they don't understand the difference between real life and a video game, and also that no one is forcing them to do anything in these games. Just because Rockstar Games added realism does not mean kids are required to explore it. Hell, if they really want a game to complain about, they should go after all the companies that make hunting games.
-
Ultra violence is a part of GTA.

Not really, there are tons of games and simulations out there, they should hunt shops who sell the tittles to underaged people.

That is something the ratings companies are responsible for. These people are angry simply because GTA V allows you to kill animals. You're going off to a different subject here man. D:

On a small scale this might be effective, but on a large scale I doubt - as the main problem are the parents who buy the games for their young kids, and not the kids themselves.
-
So now they save virtual animals too? Bravo. :app:

Tbh its not really that big of a deal.
Obv you shouldnt hand these games to toddlers, but teens today know more about sex and killing than adults do. The ratings do nothing more than make some hyperactive parents feel comfy.
-
Man...that animal rights groups are so fucking annoying this days...
-
So I heard that boycott (http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2013/09/28/gta-5-sales-hit-1-billion.aspx) went well.
-
Man I ran over Chop like 5 times earlier before heading over to Mount Chilliad to tazer some deer, felt so good.
On a plus side I completed GTA V, shortest fucking story ever, honestly I was hoping it would just go on and on, was so awesome anyway.
-
Lol I saw that coming as soon as i found out GTA V will feature animals.
It's funny how animal rights demand games like GTA V shut down, while yet there are thousands of TV shows about hunting and fishing. These stupid animal right movement seekers are just seeking for attention. No mentally capable person would ever re-enact a video game, and if he is mentally uncapable, he'll do a lot worse things without the help of GTA V. And if children are playing GTA V - their parents problem.

People hunt and fish to survive, though I don't support sport hunting, thats just mean.

So, when they actually kill animals, it's ok, but when they make a video game about doing so, it's not. Makes a lot of sense to me.
-
Meh, ignore IDA...They are just a bunch of freaks.
1. If Rockstar have denied to put animals in the game, than these guys would say that it is discriminating the animals
2. Where is IDP?
3. Aren't games made, so you may kill in your warm house, while PLAYING A GAME, instead of killing real animals, in REAL LIFE?
If I was IDA member, I would say " Thanks Rockstar, now many hunters just sit infront of their computers, instead of killing real animals "
-
Well it's kinda ironic if you think about it ... People do not fight because you kill humen ... They fight because you kill animals ... Just think how many people kill animals legally IRL ....... Fuck Logic ... They must be from SA:MP too XD
-
If Operation does not make you a doctor, if World of Tanks does not make you a tank driver, if Battlefield does not make you a soldier, why should killing virtual animals make you a criminal..?
Soon we will see Mario getting banned from the Internet for violence against mushrooms...
SAVE DA MUSHROOMS!!!!!
-
Just because of this, I'm going to go start up GTA: V for the sole purpose of mass-murdering animals.
And then I'm going to do it IRL to show people how fast they will pull the "Correlation = causation" card
-
Far Cry 3 and Red Dead Redemption
What do these games have common with GTA V?
Animal killing.
What do they have different from V?
Animal skinning, disassembling and sewing wallets with the animal's contents.
Which of the 3 gets the most controversy?
GTA V.
Yay for logic in the protester community...

Video games don't affect kids. If Pacman had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music ~ Marcus Brigstocke
