Title: Real Bad News: Help desperately Needed
Post by: PSC on November 12, 2007, 08:46:16 pm
This morning I woke up and turned on the comp I normally use, same as always. However, unlike other times, Windows XP didn't start up, so the screen was black. I turned it off then back on, and it was saying something about a problem with Windows XP not starting up, and I have no idea what to do. What makes this really bad is that all of my games and stuff are on that comp, and I can't access them because of this problem with Windows XP. I don't know what to do about it. :( Can anyone tell me what I should do? If you need more details just ask, or let me know if I should contact a computer-repair person or whatever.

Depends on it.

Do you have 2 Windows installed?

If your willing to restore your PC (Resetting it to the state of which you bought it) Then.. it should fix it, Follow these steps-

Insert the Windows XP/Vista CD into the drive and boot up the computer

While the comp is turning on push the "Boot from CD" key, usually a F# key, if you are not sure which F key it is, jsut spam all the F Keys, if that dosent work, try spamming the Delete key

If a menu comes up select "Boot from CD"

It should now say on  screen "Windows is inspecting your system configuration" (Or somthing similar)

From then on, follow the on screen intructions. One you reach the blue screen with selections, it will ask you if you want to push F2 etc, Dont. Just let it go for about 2-5 min

After the "scan" or whatever it is is complete, Delete your patrtion(s).. Once deleted, Create a partition.

Once created, Install windows and i dont recommend Formatting your hard drive with the (QUICK) mode, That is much faster, but also more likely to require a restart..

(You may need the Motherboard CD (possibly) and other peripheral driver CDs, Unless you are POSITIVE yo ucan download off the internet, have those CDs)

Have you users manual ready, incase somthing goes wrong

Well, I might try that, but there is one problem: I share that computer with someone else (I don't have my own, I'm using my brother's atm...yes, I know that's sad.). So, I'd have to talk with said person about doing it, but I think I will try it. I might have to reinstall all of my stuff, but who cares as long as I get to play SA:MP and be on Argonath again? :D

Edit: Before trying that I think I'll wait and see if there's another problem with it that can be fixed. In the meantime, I can just install GTA SA on this comp, DL SA:MP, then I can still play. But I'm definitely gonna do something about the other computer...well, maybe not me since I don't know jack about computer hardware and stuff, but I think you get the idea.

Edit 2: Nvm, I can't do that. Forgot this comp doesn't have a DVD drive...darn you somewhat older computer!  :war:

Okay, I talked with the other person who uses the computer, and she said she pretty much already figured we have to do what you said, Sickness, but first she was gonna talk with my dad about it (my dad used to build computers, and fixed another older computer we had and sold), but we're still probably gonna have to reset the computer. So, yeah, hopefully it'll all be done with soon, and I hope to be playing with you guys on the new scripts soon. ;)

Woo-hoo! I've got awesome news! Whatever the problem was, my dad was able to fix it, and we didn't lose all of the stuff that was on the computer! I'll be seeing you guys on Argonath soon enough.

Bah, just ran into another problem. After the computer problem was fixed (done by a system recovery, btw), now the sound won't work and when I go to Control Panel and the sound & audio devices thing, it's saying I have no playback device when I have my speakers plugged in and everything. :conf:

Unless your dad know what caused it, I advise you to make a backup of all stuff on the PC that you need and have nowhere else.
Such a problem might be a sign the harddrive is going to fail in short time. Take it as a warning and back up all your stuff.

Before deleting partitions and reformatting, always first use the startup CD to get in to the system prompt (A:> or D:>)
Then type dir C:
If there is a list displaying, it means that the harddisk might be recovered, so do not format. Unless of course you have a good backup.

ok.. When u start SA.. Does it Say no Driver?if so... you need to install the proper driver then restart computer..

If it Has no sound but starts do this

on Start up on computer when there is a Chance (the memory test) (First screen of startup) PressDEL..

then you will come to a Blue screeen ( mine does dunno bout urs) it will have a few Options... go to one that says (i dunno what urs will say)but when you go Enter it.. the list should be all hardware you have, mouse Grpaics so on

Look for your sound car, Press Enter then make it to go to Enable, then Press ESC then Save it then it shoudl restart the computer with sound

I own 3 computer, this has happened on 2, the pc turns on, but it doesn't load windowns, but that not all the time, and it load after the second try.

anyway, I don't have the windows cd, they didn't give us one when you buy the pc.

Ok, so it's been decided (since sometime the week before last week really, but I only now got around to posting it) that the computer will be attempted to be fixed by resetting it to its original state. Hopefully this will work, but if not we're taking it to Best Buy...not sure when my mom'll get around to it though.

Hm...looks like what Gandalf was saying was right...

Good news (as mentioned in my thread on the Going Off section): The comp got fixed by a full system recovery! And, as mentioned in said thread, I should be back on Argonath within the next few days. Can't wait to see the new scripts.
