Title: [SA:MP] Contact with a Staff member
Post by: eymas on September 30, 2013, 12:53:26 pm
Staff members are just like you; members of the community.
They have volunteered to serve their duties by simply enforcing the rules and to apprehend those who break the rules.
Communication with a staff member is very important however; So how do you properly contact one?

1: /report and /pm
These two commands can be extremely helpful when correctly used;
If you report a player, and any staff member takes your report; you can give more details about it using /PM:

/report 1 Deathmatching
*Admin(2) is looking into your report*
/pm 2 ID1 drove up to me from Grove street and started shooting me without any words at all.
*PM from Admin(2): Thank you.

Of course, a staff member can also ask you for additional information; if you stay silent after reporting, then he would have to look for the leads himself:

/report 1 Deathmatching
*Admin(2) is looking into your report*
*PM from Admin(2): Can you tell me what he has done?*
/pm 2 He drove up to me from Grove street and shot me.
*PM from Admin(2): Was any communication used?*
/pm 2 no.

You have to be detailed about your report; the more he knows; the better he knows what is going on.

Another thing is that you have to use /report to report a player, not /pm.
Exceptions are for players who abused /q.

2: /PM
PM is the most used way to establish contact with any staff member; considering you can ask him all sorts of things, such as setting a house/business, to teleport you if you are bugged etcetera...
Thing is that you do need to be clear with your question:

Wrong:

/pm 2 help admin
*PM from Admin(2): What's the matter?*
/pm 2 come to me please
*PM from Admin(2): What do you need?*
/pm 2 i need a house

If you contact him like this; you've effectively wasted more time than needed since he had to ask you twice to get to know why you need him.

Correct:

/pm 2 Admin; I need a house set at my location
*Admin(2) appears next to you*

Clearly he directly understood what you needed so he can get to work immediately.

Do note that when you PM a staff member for help; that you do need a valid question.
Questions that staff members will NOT answer:

- Changing your name to an entirely different one(Admins only add/remove clan/family tags)
- Teleporting your car to a roof
- Giving you money
- Giving you admin rights(duh)
- Banning you on request(all other punishments count, except disarming)
- anything that contains an insult
- trolling questions
- much more

Also remember; Only /propertyadmins and managers+ can set any form of property

3: Patience
Most staff members are working on reports or any other activity that he has to perform; And if you need one; then it's mostly said: "Be patient".

Even if they're busy they can still read your messages however:

/report 1 Deathmatching
/pm 2 any progress on my report?
*PM from Admin(2): I am currently on another report, I will get to yours ASAP*

In the event that he did not read your message, Don't flood him:

/report 1 carjacking
/pm 2 can you read my report
*delay of 1 minute*
/pm 2 can you look into my report please
*delay of 2 minutes*
/pm 2 my report please
*PM from Admin(2): Be patient, I am focusing on another player's report*

Priorities are important; If a staff member has a report about a group of 4 players copbaiting, then he would take that one first.

You are not the only one on the server, and your report isn't the only one around. Staff members are human just like you; so they cannot answer each question instantly. They gain an considerate amount of reports each hour, and this can always be different; depending on the current situation of the server.

If a staff member is alone with +100 players and he has a massive amount of reports on him, then you can obviously expect that he will not reply at all, don't get mad about it; Be patient.

4: /phone
Why.

5: Public chat/Announcing reports
The public chat is read by everyone, and mainly used for discussing certain topics.
It is in no way useful to report a player through the public chat or any chat he can read, because he would then know that he is reported; therefor will discontinue his activities.

These little topics cover most if not all of the points you need to know about contacting any staff member. Expect updates throughout.

Good job, you should tell them who to exactly contact when request a property though.  :janek:

Bump, read and follow this.
When the staff member asks you for more information, you tell him that, STOP asking the admin to come to you.
