A short description:

The Global Account system, currently codenamed ArgoID (Argonath ID services) and ArgoNET (Argonath Network) is a centralized login platform aimed for release in early 2014. It'll feature ArgoNET and ArgoNET api providing a main panel for controlling accounts, and distributing secure communication between various Argonath sites and forums.

The Argonath Network system is more than a simple panel, or typical API. It is a robust platform designed to be scaled up for further projects as well as a framework for many third-party development tasks. User privacy and security is at the center of its functionality, written using the latest industry standards and techniques.

We will eventually give more details about the system, its purpose sometime early next year. Currently the full details are restricted to server developers, managers and Argonath HQ members. We will not answer or discuss features, intent, or any other details of this project here. This is only inquiry for help to finish the project.

Apply for developer:
Please send a forum PM with the following:

The server you play most, your positions in Argonath, a scale of 1/10 your ability in PHP, MySQL, and knowledge of MVC layout, 2 projects you've worked on (links are fine), 2 players you consider your best friends in Argonath, and lastly without any minimum wording: why you think you are suitable for this position (try to include why you standout above anyone else, your history as a developer, your history in the community). Also include any other preferred requirements which apply to you.

use subject line [App] (your name) - developer

Apply for tester:
Please send a forum PM with the following:
Server you play most, games you have which have an Argonath server (gta sa, gta vc, gta iv, etc), when you joined Argonath (and on what server).

Use subject line [App] (your name) - tester

We will try to get back to you within 2 days of your PM.

Do you indent your code with tabs or with spaces? This is a very important detail for me to consider applying.

I can't speak for them personally, as I haven't had time to review the code recently...but I'm sure if there is an issue with formatting, it can be discussed and changed, if need be.

msg me if you can't find anyone else
All of Argo's Developers are welcome to join in. Feel free to assist if you're interested, man. :)

The only people who use spaces are those who do not yet understand how much more epic tab is  :rage:

IMO the only acceptable situations for using spaces as indentation are Lisp(s) and TeX.

Space is too small an indent really, most IDEs are set to default a four space indent upon entry of curly braces anyway, same as tab I believe.

I'm more of an MVC kinda man.

Agreed, however most stuff you need to do with lisp can be done with any other modern language.

With the exception of tabs vrs spaces and header comment styles; we follow the PHP standard http://pear.php.net/manual/en/standards.php. At least, I do when working on the API. The front-end is a little choppy and will need code cleaning and commenting before we move into the next stage.

Axis, send me a PM anyways. We will need someone to make the API documentation which will be using HTML; you won't get access to the main source but I'll set the docs up with dropbox.

I'll also leak a little more details about the project from a planned announcement in the future; the idea for doing this is to collect some more interest from our community members in testing/developing.
Quote
We are glad to introduce a new platform specifically designed and engineered for ArgonathRPG. Argonath ID Service, for short "ArgoID" is a single user-name and password which will be a central login to work on various game servers and forum accounts. Much like a Google Account gives you access to Gmail, YouTube, Google Docs and all other Google services. Gandalf has confirmed every game server with the ability of supporting this system will carry implementation. We have developed a custom modification for SMF to allow its integration over a secure connection. Forums will be utilizing this technology sooner than game servers.

The idea of a single login for multiple servers and services is obviously one of grave concern for security. This project has been in the works for a few years now. In this period extensive trials have been conducted, and research over periods of months to develop a system that is both efficient and secure. We have put user security and user privacy as our number one priority. We are confident in saying we have developed just that.

The tentative time-frame for the release of this platform is early 2014, summer 2014 at the latest. We are currently 70% completed the Argonath Network Management Panel, about 85% completed the Argonath Network API, and about 90% completed the Argonath ID Services database. Prior to release the platform will undergo extensive security testing and usability trials. Currently, the first forum planned to support the implementation is the FBI forums. The first server to get the support has yet to be confirmed.

[WS]Reece welcomed as developer.

We may select another developer shortly; we need to review the progress we have so far and where we're planning on going in the final stretch of the development of this platform. We anticipate more information and even previews released in the coming weeks. That for now concludes this topic's purpose.

A centralised area. :)

I remember this being one the first things I suggested when I joined in '09. At the time the two most popular online areas were ARPD and the main forums, subdomains were less and the player base altogether different.

To think that such a unified platform could be possible would be a dream come true, haha... for players who may not get this at first, having a common area could in theory bridge all the gaps we have in the community and bring each strand of Argo closer.
At first I suppose it may just be accounts and general details, but in future it would be really awesome to have this as the one root for the community at large. It could even incorporate older projects like the Media Center or in the least promote them.

Edit: Still working on them!

We have made significant progress over the last few weeks and expect to be able to make an official release of information regarding the project in the next week (with previews!). Come the end of the week the FBI forums will have some of the system installed into it (but ofc won't be usable yet!) ;)

Any developer of Android, iOS, or Windows (mobile) is requested to contact me if you are interested in API access for third party purposes. Also anyone interested in having support on their forum is advised to PM me now. We will have a script distributed shortly for our system to prepare the installation process as well as report to our system important information about the servers hosting the forum. Eligibility is based on the use of a *.argonathrpg.com(.eu) domain.

Other third party projects or interest in the API will be deffered till later once we have the full documentation for the system ready. All projects will require Argonath Network developer approval in advance and prior to allowance. Sandbox access will only be granted after initial approval.
Also here is a preview of the logo!

After some major rewriting and redesigning we're getting closer to a final product. The current source is over 300,000 lines of code in all.

Here's some sneak peaks:

While these screens reveal a lot about the project; we still won't reveal much more. We're still interested in an additional developer. I ask this person can be dedicated at least 5+ hours per week.

In a short few weeks we will have a 'open registration' period where people will be allowed to signup on the site prior to its deployment however access to the service will remain limited to Argonath Network developers.

We're in the late stages of development. Due me being the only developer who actually works on it, and my current conditions of moving and such; I've not been able to do as much work as I had planned over the last few months.

@Sugar, don't you dare pester me x)

The project will move forward.

3rd Life beta testers are all automatically accepted in to Argonath Network as that server is being built with Argonath Network authentication.

The forum software might come a bit later unless a skillful enough PHP developer steps forward to develop a plugin.
