Title: Criminals earning money for being jailed while cops earn nothing.
Post by: JDC on December 21, 2013, 09:36:27 am
Before any questions, I would like to state that the purpose of this topic is for clarification.

Personally, I think it is good that suspects now earn a little money from being jailed, as this provides an incentive for them to turn themselves in. This saves more bloodbaths where they would rather fight to the death because the alternative (barring escape) does not offer much incentive, if any.

However, what concerns me is that cops do not earn anything from jailing. This (somehow) nullifies the point of the incentive mentioned above, as cops would be more driven to kill suspects than to jail them and earn nothing.

If anything, the best scenario should be one where the jailed suspects retain their current earnings, while cops earn a decent wage (preferably around double their earnings for killing) from jailing: the result would be a win-win situation where both sides have incentive to go through the jailing process, and will actually save on bloodbaths.

I would like to know if this (cops earning zero from jailing) is intentional, or if it is a simple developer oversight / bug. If it is the former, I would like this topic to be used for discussing the aforementioned concept. Should it be the latter, may I request that this topic be moved to RS5 Bug Reports.

Thank you.

Jailing rewards will be added shortly.

Also agreed that suspects should get no reward nor penalty for jailing, so it's fair for both sides.

If bouth cops and suspects gain monney from jailing this could lead to abuse of jailing in order to gain money... ( two friends constantly jailing and getting monney )

It can be also abused if, for example, officers wins $600 and suspect losts $300.

Admins are there for a reason.

If jailing reward for cops was double what they get for killing then $200 isn't satisfactory at all.  Setting it back to what the amount was in RS4 ($600) is reasonable.

Killing instead of jailing can't be incentivized anyway. If the suspect gives up they can't be killed anymore

This bug has been fixed. Cops get $100 for killing a suspect, while they get $500 for jailing one and the suspects get $1 for every second of jail time.

While I do agree the jailing reward should be higher to encourage cops to capture suspects instead of killing them (even more), the current setup can be said to be a win-win.

This always happened and will continue to happen. Admins always did a great job when it came into this though.
