Title: Watching stream from twitch impossible due to "lag"
Post by: Kessu on December 28, 2013, 11:06:52 am
As the subject gives out, I can't watch any of the twitch streams in any quality due to video stuttering every ~15 seconds or so for 5 seconds and then goes with about 100 times the speed to catch up and stutters again.

On the other hand, I can watch 1080p youtube videos with no problem what so ever and speedtest.net gives out great results for my internet connection (~60-70 mbps in, 10 mbps out).

I have no lag in games, the problem only makes appearance in twitch streams.

This has been tested with my brother and uncle by watching the same stream for same amount of time where they did not have any stutter or lag of any kind whilst my stream kept freezing every few seconds.

What I've tried so far (NOT in this order):
Disabling hardware acceleration: Didn't help at all, infact I think it made it worse;
Right clicked, went to settings and let the player store unlimited amount of information to my PC; again didn't help at all. Also tried the opposite of storing minimum amount, same result;
Re-installing Windows: Yes, I went this far as to re-install the windows completely;
Tried secondary integrated network card (yes, my motherboard has two integrated);
Tried swithing the location of ethernet cable in both my wall and modem which both had no change in anything;
Re-install AND update Flash player: no result;
install older flash player: no result;
Grab every windows update possible that does not include drivers for my hardware: no result;
Update twitch for 30 minutes in order to get a good server: no result;
Tried with and without overclocking the CPU: no result;
Using Google Chrome, IE and Firefox: no result;
Adblock enabled and disabled, installed and not installed: no result.

I'm getting quite desperate since I can't watch any of the game streams that I find interesting or follow the channels that I like to watch.

My rig just incase;
Win7
P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3
i5 3570K
GTX 680
2x4Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz
Newest flash player
Newest Firefox

I'm pretty much out of things what to try in these desperate times :(

PS: I can stream TO twitch without any lags, but I can't watch my own stream due to lag (my brother and uncle both said my stream did not lag whilst it kept stuttering for me every few seconds like every other stream)

Try watching on en.twitch.tv, non-us based visitors report reduced lag on US based stream servers. (which makes no sense but somehow works)

Well I'll be damned, that actually seems to work. Going 5 minutes already with zero freezes or stuttering of any kind.

This is the spot where I say problem is solved, thanks to Teddy's advise.

Problem: Constantly stuttering video in twitch, which made it unwatchable.
Solution: Watch it through en.twitch.tv rather than simply twitch.tv.
