Title: Some help with my PC
Post by: albertlau128 on February 04, 2014, 09:40:26 am
Hello there,

So I wished to buy FSX for my new year present, but I have downloaded the demo version and it lags like sh*t. I am wondering if it is my CPU/RAM/Display cards' problem.

My PC specs:
Win7 32bit Home Premium SP1
AMD Athlon II X2 250 processor 3GHz
2GB (1.75GB usable) RAM
Display card: ATI Radeon HD 4200
DX10

Thanks a lot. Help is appreciated.

I have exactly the same characteristics but I never had issue with X or any other... you still may try to get older version instead new computer. Almost no difference at all.

There's http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925724
and there's http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927286
(Apparently it auto-translated for me, so sorry if it's in dutch.)
Your specs are OK as it seems, perhaps try tweaking the graphical settings as explained in the linked articles.

Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 / Vista
PC with 1 GHz equivalent or higher processor
256 MB of system RAM for Windows XP SP2 / 512 MB Vista
14 GB available hard disk space
32 MB DirectX 9 compatible video card required
Not sure if minimal or recommend.

Ye seems okay, but it just lags when I start flying... :/ I didn't change any of those settings.

Also I tried FlightGear a few days ago, having  this:

You're using way too much RAM, and your computer has none left for itself. Do you have anything else open?

Nothing at all... If my PC is idle without any seen exe running, it runs with like 500MB RAM usage.

According to your picture, it is running much higher than that.

FSX needs at least 2GB of RAM for itself only. Try upgrading your RAM to at least 4GB.

How I run it without any problems with 1.7/1.8GB?

You simply don't. It's a heavy game which requires lots of resources. I haven't seen a pc with your specs that could run it smoothly in anything other than the lowest possible settings.

I didn't mean you cannot run it at all, but having a smooth experience will highly likely be impossible to achieve.

So I wished to buy FSX > 2006 (?)

My PC specs:
Win7 32bit Home Premium SP1 > July 22, 2009
AMD Athlon II X2 250 processor 3GHz > Jun 2, 2009
2GB (1.75GB usable) RAM > ?? as in you didn't tell which DDR, which brand, the speed > 1.75gb would be enough for XP but win7? get 4gb if you want to upgrade it.
Display card: ATI Radeon HD 4200 > august 2009 > http://i.imgur.com/aXlGCYZ.png
DX10
I don't know why but I am sure I run it smooth,as 2004 and 2000.
Smooth can be defined differently, for example smooth for me means 120 FPS on 5760x1080
Nothing at all... If my PC is idle without any seen exe running, it runs with like 500MB RAM usage.
If something like a worm or virus is eating away your ram I would ask you to first try and eliminate those threats as you said you have no anti virus running, and Windows Defender is generally bullshit, try this (http://www.superantispyware.com/) as it is the best program for the job. But upgrade to 4gb of ram as it is cheap as all hell, but than again I would suggest you to buy a new PC.

The anti-spyware program you suggested is far from "the best" one out there. In fact, it is not even well-known, and tries to sell you the software. There are many free, popular anti-spyware programs that have been around for years which are much more trustworthy. Remember, some of those programs you find online can actually be malicious software themselves, but in disguise...

I have been taught by my school for three years that it is the best, but than again the PCs in our school have more viruses than a cheap hooker in downtown new york. I still trust the program as I haven't had a problem for it for three years, I only recommend the programs I trust.. or get paid to support, with that said Download Origin the best online game store in the world, you can play great games like Battlefield 3 and Sim City.. sorry I went youtube mode. That is why you don't google "best antispywere program that is trustworthy and won't randomly open my firewall to install a trojan horse on my OS" If you tell me I didn't give a good example atleast give a better one, this dude needs help.

SpyBot Search & Destroy is a very good one that I can think of off the top of my head. It has been around for a very long time, and has always remained free and interactive with its community.

As far as anti-virus programs go, I'd personally recommend Avast! Home Edition. There are many more free anti-virus programs that are also just as good.

Never had a problem with the free version of Avast, and for more problematic cases I use Trend Housecall online scan.  :gand:

I tried Avast Free and it detected less viruses than a infant playing Doctor. Get a program like Eset Nod32.

One does not require an anti-virus program if they're sensible in their actions, such as viewing certain sites.
90% if not more of the virus infections are caused by users neglect to be secure when searching the internet and downloading items.

You don't know that ;).

I recommend SUPERAntiSpyware  and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (these are not anti-virus, they are anti-spyware).

That's wrong, you should only have ONE active anti-virus program at time, if you have more than one it causes problems and they don't work properly.

Running more than one anti-virus program is not a good idea as they tend to conflict with one another, picking up pieces of opposing applications as viruses, for example the one anti-virus program may end up picking up the virus definitions or even virus quarantine "vault" as a virus and remove it.

Indeed. A system is as secure as the user operating it.

So basically myself has a anti-spyware installed, the main point is not my anti-virus but the specs.  :smack:

You can test all of this but I am sure that one of this things does fix the lag.

1. Try Updating you Graphics Driver.
2. Clean off the dusts from your graphics card and obviously do clean in the processor fan. <---- This helped me to reduce the lag for few games.
3.Try Disabling Unwanted Progresses in Task Manager.

Hope this steps helps you.Good Luck :)

Actually a good suggestion if you haven't done it in a while, but be careful, a PC is a delicate machine, don't go jamming a mop in there.
