Post by: Matt Murdock on March 09, 2014, 09:30:03 pm
This is scary as f**k.

A baby girl born in a Chhattisgarh hospital is getting some unwanted attention because of its unique features. The girl, who was born recently at a hospital in Keshkal, has a greenish tinge on her skin and tortoise like scales on her body.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYo0wA9kCj0

Many body parts of the infant are not properly developed while some other are overdeveloped. Her eyes are reddish in colour and people are likening her to an alien or an incarnation of god. However, doctors say that the girl is suffering from a rare disease called Herculean syndrome. According to child specialist Dr BR Bhagat, this syndrome occurs only to a few in lakhs but they have very low chance of surviving. The parents of the kid has been advised to take her to a hospital in Raipur where she can better treatment facilities.

Its a rare genetic disease namely Harlequin Ichthyosis its Cause Harlequin Ichthyosis:: The ABC 12 gene, which directs the protein production necessary to have normal skin growth, is mutated, which leads to this severe skin disorder. It is a gene that is responsible for the transportation of lipid. When it mutates, it produces a hardened protein called keratin.

I feel sorry for the parents and the baby herself.
In all seriousness, the family must've been looking forward to welcoming their little girl, but instead their child faces a potentially life threatening condition.

Only happens in India.

I find the phrase "alien baby" to be an over-sensationalistic way of reporting.

If this is true, then that is one very painful and life-debilitating condition. I hope the baby lives long enough to help researchers find a cure, or dies soon enough if they cannot so she can avoid further suffering.

Although with the rarity of its occurrence, the former is highly unlikely.

Go tell your god to face a black hole and let's see how he does. If there will ever be a "cure"/way to avoid this, it will happen thanks to researchers, not some mythical entity you call in when you can't explain something.

Batta, I'll make you sure that control your tongue and please don't say a work against our GOD. If you have some different religion so try to respect other religions to. IRL, try to say this to some MUSLIM and he'll show you the power.
If he used "GOD'S POWER" so he didn't meant "The Almighty Allah" he meant all the religions GOD.
If you respect your religion, then you are disrespecting your own GOD by saying this words against YOUR OWN GOD.

Africa is not a country and India has a population grown of 1.41% and 17.5% percent of the earth total population. That something like this would happen is pretty likely compared to any other countries with less population.

Have you even checked Wikipedia? 3 mentioned survivors are from USA.

And how do you explain "third world country"? Cause I'm sure Lithuania lacks more resources compared to India..

Lithuania is MUCH better off. While India's GDP may be high, you shouldn't forget that it is a country of 1.2 billion people. Not only are resources divided among them, but there is a vast wealth gap in India. Rich families are VERY rich and poor families are very poor.
On top of that there is a large scale division among the people. Not only is the country divided into religious groups and 'areas', but it is divided constitutionally so that people inheriting from certain families get substantial advantages and birth privileges, while others do not. That means free schooling, massive discounts on healthcare and tax cuts on everything and what not. On top of that there is largescale corruption all over the country which even sends medicare costs through the roof.
In short, the parents of the child probably can't even afford any large scale treatments.

Twice facepalm to both of you;

I am also wondering what powers are you talking about Kelvin, at least you have another point that you wasn't able to prove properly.

On topic: I think this is just some problem with DNA since 60% of Asian's countries and some of Africans eat ALMOST what ever they see such as insects and w/o. I don't really get surprised from such things since they have a large amount of population and pollution.

You're wrong in this one, if Indians weren't hard workers and didn't have a large amount of population, they won't do anything, even Sudan, Iraq and Tunisia have more resources than India but they are just because "Arabs".

Really, stop hitting on countries that - due to your own lack of awareness - you feel are at the back end of this world. Nations like India have challenges that are on a scale incomparable to countries in Europe, like the UK and France and further afield in North America. In these latter nations, the most sensational news we can come up with is waste of time scandals such 'Plebgate'. At best these highlight the fickle nature of these so called modern societies. The firearms rows in the US add very little to the country or the world, but does put the latter nation's fragmented social attitudes on a pedestal.

News outlets like the BBC often pride in being able to find every single slum or council estate equivalent in the world, which is outside of their own home country to make themselves feel better. And sometimes it's not even the poorer/developing nations they target. Take for example, Sochi Winter Olympics. It was the perfect opportunity for the BBC to showcase its lack of integrity and professionalism in regards to foreign correspondence. Their personal vendetta and pure bias could not have been any more obvious, and it's a shame that they sink so low when they have all the resources to deliver appropriate news. The same happened with the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India; rather than it being a celebration of the talents of some incredibly hard working athletes - those who train year after year just for this one moment that comes around only so many times in their career - it was all about the news media trying to tell a nation how it should work, despite its own country being no role model. The nit picking was atrocious.

But, the point is our personal opinions are so deluded by this, leading to our false perceptions, such as 'Why do such terrible and bizarre things always happen in countries such as India and Africa? This just proves they really cant get offended when someone calls them a third world' and 'Only happens in India'.
When was the last time you visited these places equipped with an open mind?

These countries are so much more diverse than most of ours: they have a plethora of co-existing ideologies, religious concepts and social precepts. But more than that, they also have something called culture, and this is a feature that we cannot compete with. This social and cultural diversity is reflected in the physical diversity of the nation, and this is something exterminator's post pointed out. The population count makes these nations so much more challenging to sustain and govern.
When an atypical health condition arises amongst a vastly diverse population, they may have to scour the nation to find the appropriate treatment. A child may be born in something of a hermit community where it is difficult to get resources to. Further, this diversity and size of the pop. also increases the possibilities of there being such defects. If there is a hypothetical '1 in a billion' chance of x defect occurring, then in a pop. of 1.2 billion it is not a surprise that it does happen, and when such possibilities are realised people latch on.

The Media has always been like this, a very good example is the Princess Diana case where she was harassed before she eventually died. Though, I am not saying that the media is entirely bad but yea, I agree, most major media outlets need to stop witchhunting in foreign correspondence. It's absolutely bollocks.

Sorry for my late post but excuse me? We are not hillbillies. We live in highly functional and civilized societies, not on trees.
I have lived in India my whole life and the only time i ever saw anybody eat insects is on Discovery/Nat Geo where westerners are going at it in weird competitions and to prove their 'manliness'.

Also no, we don't have high levels of pollution everywhere. Matter of fact we have much less pollution than western countries. We have a much smaller carbon footprint as we don't need all that energy. Most of India's energy for example comes from Hydropower, which is a extremely clean source of power. Not from burning coal or oil.

Here in the Philippines, southeast Asia's only catholic (unfortunately) country. Our culture is a mix of native, western, and spanish (but mostly western) descent, and we do not eat insects or whatever the hell we see. I'm not sure about the dog-eating stereotype from countries such as Vietnam, but I can bet those are the minority over there as well.

Next time, avoid pulling such hasty generalizations on Asia.

Lemme explain to ya this from a science point.

God is not a person, God is not a being, it is not an object. It is EVERYTHING that existed, exists and will exist. Not affected by laws of phycichs cause he exists in a void away from space and time. Scientificly, that would be it, the sutff you read in religiouse books is just an attempt to explain all of this to a human in the past which knew nothing about any sort of science.

Also WTF, why the fuck are you atheists angry on us Christians, and all religions anyway?  :uhm: GTFO, dont believe in God, FINE, i dont give a flying fuck, keep it to yourself!  :uhm:
