Title: Problem with lag spikes.
Post by: Aca on May 02, 2014, 11:29:52 pm
Hello there
As the title says, recently I've noticed my old computer is encountering some strange lag spikes out of nowere. The lag comes after five to ten minutes of playing ANY game. (From Battlefield 4 to Minecraft). The drivers are not problem as I've updated them some days ago. Also, the dust inside a PC just got cleaned two days ago. (Lags are shorter after the cleaning but still they come from time to time).
Windows was re-installed one month ago, yet the lag spikes are still here. Also, my memory is not the problem as only 50GB is used from 800GB total memory.
What may be a problem?

My configuration:

(Yup, I know that the configuration is a bit outdated but it's my secondary PC that is not being used for more than YouTube, Facebook, GTA-SA and League of Legends, so please refrain from posting "omg bad config", "gez new pc omg" and such unnecessary comments.)

Try downloading a program that checks your ram usage, CPU usage, heat, and overall a PC scan for issues.

Just check how much RAM you are using during the lagg spikes, also does your FPS drop during the spikes?

Could be your processor taking too much on its plate.
When those lagspikes occur, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, check the performance tab and see if the processor is on a high level.

Download CoreTemp (http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) to check the temperature of your PC. Leave it on while playing games. (Shouldn't be using too much of your RAM)

Problem isn't necessarily with your hardware. Try running a quick scan with your anti-virus and CCleaner (https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner).

Which one you do recommend that supports check of ram usage, CPU usage, heat, and overall a PC scan for issues? And yes, FPS does drop to like 2-9 during the spikes.

CoreTemp one appeared to be a virus so my PC blocked it's download. Are you sure it's totally clean? CCleaner has however been downloaded and results will be posted shortly.
