Title: Graphics Card Issue
Post by: Luke on June 12, 2014, 10:28:21 pm
Hey Guys,

Im currently having an issue with my Graphics card, for some reason when I play games I get like a sort of checkered box affect on my screen usually appears after a bit of time of playing, like I will be playing SAMP all will be fine, then I will go play Battlefield 3 or like I am now watching the football and I will have this little flickering checkered flag affect flickering changing colours etc.

I upgraded to a ASUS R7 260x DRR5 2GB the other day and its started happening ever since, I have done the following;

Installed Drivers from disk
Rebooted Windows fully Windows 8.1
Installed drivers from AMD.com
Rebooted to Windows 7
Under clocked the GPU
Added extra fans in the process.
tried different outputs, VGA, HDMI
different monitors 1366 x 768 / 1920 x 1080

But why this happens is when my PSU gets hot, I have some cheap made £20 600w PSU from Ebay. (Not my idea but at the time I needed a psu as I didn't have one, also at this time I didn't have a powered GPU) but whenever I play SAMP / BF3 my PSU gets extremely hot so much I cant touch it.

My specs are;

ASUS P5P43T S1 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 @ 2.4GHZ (4CORES)
4GB DRR3 RAM 1333MHZ
ASUS R7 260X 2GB DRR5
(PSU from Ebay)

Personally I think it is my PSU but if anyone has any other views would be really appreciated.

Many Thanks
Luca.

Obviously you have to try to change the PSU to a better one before anyone can give you any advice.

That look like artifacts, so the card wasn't good in the first place, you get refunded for returning it?
Better man!:P

This can also be caused by overheating or lack of memory. (In most cases, the computer being overused too heavily without sufficient cooling with cause the former, which leads to the latter. Computers do weird things when they get too hot).

Totally inefficient voltage, glad to see you returned it... If this happens again in future, you need a bigger PSU because there is a risk of you frying that card by providing it less power than it requires
