Alright guys here is the story, my 16 year old brother was on Xbox 360 playing Black Ops 1 with hes mate, when they came across this guy hacking through walls and killing everyone, (you know the normal nobhead) whom wants to ruin the game for everyone else, but yeah, he started getting abusive to my brother and hes mate, bearing in mind this guy sounded like 30-40 obviously a sad virgin, but yeah he said to my brother "oh you from London and your ISP is Sky? and your mates is Virgin yeah?" my brother replied telling him to "f**k off" and then around 30 seconds later I began experiencing internet issues, obviously everyone knows the effects of DDOS attacks. But I don't know what way to handle it?
Do I call my ISP and ask for help?
Well im of course going to be calling Xbox, as this cannot be done.
Illegal activities are not supported by Argonath.

Call your ISP, explain your issue, ask for a IP change.
-
Call your ISP and alert them. By DDoSing your IP he is not just DDoSing you, he is DDoSing your internet company, which can get him in a lot of trouble.
Also if your IP is dynamic, just reset your modem and your IP will change and he will no longer know your IP.

I did restart my router various times, also I tried changing the SSID, taking every connection off of it, but it was still happening, obviously I will call sky and ask them to change it to a dynamic one or something.
I do infact have hes Xbox Live name, so yeah Xbox should help my ISP out by sharing the details of the guys IP etc.

Shut down your internet connection. Contact the ISP and tell them what's going on. You're going to have to tether or just use your phone for internet while the situation gets fixed.

Try resetting the modem and reconfiguring the modem by logging into your default gateway which will be usually "192.168.1.1".Reconfiguration usually changes the modem settings and IP.

Is it even possible to get the IP through the game?

Way easier than it should be.

My friend got DDoSed, the way it got ended is that the cables burned.

Because a cable can physically burn due to intangible data traveling through it.

:neutral2:
Not sure if high..

Through the game or through the actual console?
-
It is indeed quite easy on both Xbox live and psn. Since they rely on peer to peer networking rather than dedicated servers, all that's needed is a packet sniffer.

Believe it or not but it was because of the routers heat

Not sure if I can post this. The Xbox 360 is connected to the LAN with the attack's computer. The attacker's computer runs a program which finds the MAC address of the Xbox. Once the MAC address is found, the program can then detect all traffic running through said device, which looks like this:

As Chase said, all traffic is P2P.

Not. Your "because of" makes it make even less sense and even less believable.
