I mainly think its cuase of the moderaterna and reinfeldt, and our defenceminister Karin Engström. If vänsterpartiet had the power god would make recreate the forest

French water bombing airplane landed on the airport 20:30 PM today, also two helicopters from Norway and there is another airplane from Italy on the way.

The smoke and be seen and smelled as far as 300 km away from the actual fire, that's how intense the fire is.

Holy shit.. It's always sad to see the environment of huge territories being destroyed like this.. plus the damage caused to the people who live there.

Any idea as to what the cause might be? It would suck gigantic testicles if it ended up being some drunk camper who forgot to put out his campfire.

It came sparks from some sort of machine in the forest would be most likely according to the Swedish government.

And these french "super planes" are delayed and can't fly because of the thick smoke.

"Planes flown in especially from France to fight Sweden's massive forest fire have faced immediate problems, with officials stating that there's too much smoke for the planes to take off."

"We're doing everything we can to get them in the air as soon as possible," NIklas Ekstrand from the Swedish Armed Forces told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

"The situation is far from perfect right now with so much smoke in the air. Right now, they can't take off with such poor visibility."

The planes, flown in from France on Tuesday, have been called in to help quell the flames as they are able to carry much more water than the helicopters Sweden has been using. Sweden owns no water bombing planes itself.

Two more planes are expected to touch down from Italy later on Wednesday.

The planes are able to fill up with 6,000 litres of water in just a few seconds, and can fly at 130 kilometres an hour. Pilots are planning to take the water from Lake Mälaren Lake Åmänningen.

Here's a brief picture of the fire's expansion yesterday. The fire would be inside the pink marked area and the red would be closed roads.

I'm not hearing this on the news anywhere until now. Damn shame :(

I'm familiar with these kind of fires that occasionally occurs in the Southwest, like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallow_Fire

Fortunately I live in the metro area in the valley, most of these fires usually happen up north in the mountains. Do we have any Swedes here that is affected by the fire in any way?

Only way im affected is that the sky is all grey of smoke and it smells donkey. But that's not really a problem.

Sweden does almost never have these kind of events. We don't even own a airplane capable for fire fighting. That's why we called EU Commission for help and the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) responded and than reinformed French and Italy since they were must suited for such mission, since they both got fire fighting airplanes!

In Southern Italy, unfortunately we have to fight forest fires every year and we are very equipped with Canadeir airplanes and helicopters. (weird music but shows very well the work of our firefighters)

There was one in July 1992, which was a 2000 hectares big forest fire on the island called Gotland. That's like the biggest forest fire we ever had since then. Now, this one beats the record.  :cowboy:
