Title: Robin Williams, 63, dead
Post by: Alsatian on August 12, 2014, 01:18:57 am
There are only a few actors whose passing has truly saddened me, and Robin Williams is perhaps one of the biggest. Some of the films he's been in have been true gems, none less than Good Will Hunting, one of my favourite films of all time.

And then there's the childhood classics that I'm sure a lot of us grew up with: Mrs Doubtfire and Jumanji spring to mind instantly.

RIP  :(

I'm speechless. A real positive man who was always full of energy and simply took pleasure in making others smile.

Let's not forget about Flubber as well. That's a really awful loss, he was so talented and always so enthusiastic in his work.

Rest in peace, wherever you have ended up. Surely one of the great actors that won't be forgotten.

I seldom feel emotion when a celebrity passes -- but Robin was truly a great actor, and indeed a great man.

Depression and addictions are powerful things in life, don't be so quick to judge.

No respect for those who take their own lives.
I agree that he did pick a very shameful way to go out. But we shouldn't judge his life on how if was ended we should judge it on how he lived it, he most certainly was a legend when it came to comedy and I think his name will be remembered for a long time yet.

I think some of you are too quick to label people as cowards when it comes to suicide. Depression is a powerful, often misunderstood state of mind - and it's often the ones we least expect who are suffering through it. I've known many people in my life, some of whom are close friend of mine, who have suffered from it but kept it behind closed doors. You never realise because people usually front the biggest smiles.

Robin Williams was one of those people: he brough laughter to others and always seemed happy, but it seems that deep down he was truly unhappy with his life. Stephen Fry and Jim Carrey are further examples of people suffering from depression that you wouldn't suspect.

It is a shame if he truly did end his own life, and I wish that he could of found another way to overcome it, but by no means does it make the man a coward. Not at all.

He had bipolar which would clearly be hard for him to deal with.

My father has bipolar and sometimes doesn't even bother to get out of bed to go to work, so every morning I have to check on him to see if he is awake. He once attempted to OD on sleeping pills so I have to make sure he only takes 2 pills if he can't sleep properly through the night. Currently he's on medicinal marijuana which is helping a lot, sure takes a lot of the pain off having to dedicate a lot of my own life to help his.

Because it's never the option to go for. Running away from your problems IS a cowardly way of dealing with them and that's that.
Clearly you have never been in a state of serious depression and have no understanding of what it's like. I'd also ask you to drop this discussion as your comments may be highly offensive to people who have lost people to suicide.

My first VHS movie was Flubber, that my parent bought to me when I was a kid. A really talent actor is what Robin William was. Sad.

Because it's never the option to go for. Running away from your problems IS a cowardly way of dealing with them and that's that.

But no two people deal with the same situation. For one person it may be a case of tackling the problem head on, talking to friends, counselling, or perhaps even just riding it out, but for others it may be much more complicated than that.

I can't for one second believe that Robin Williams decided to end his life because he is a coward. He was an extremely wealthy man so perhaps it seems bizarre that someone with so much would want it to all be over, but there I guess lies the proof that money can't really buy happiness. He was obviously dealing with something so profoundly troubling for him that he couldn't see any other option.

Suicide should be the last option - in fact, it shouldn't be an option at all. I'd like to think that there's help for anyone struggling, but clearly there isn't. If anything, I feel that taking your life requires a hell of a lot of courage. Not the kind you're thinking of, perhaps, but it must take a hell of a lot to push you to ending it.

Depression is honestly a twisted bìtch, to others one will seem perfectly normal, even happy with life yet behind closed doors they are looking for ways to escape the torment of every day life.
It's not something you can just get over nor is it something a person can just forget about. Many suffer from it for most if not all of their lives.

I won't say I am personally offended by the statements saying that suicide is for cowards but it is a seriously sensitive topic for some.
I have personally lost people I knew to suicide for multiple factors, it's not just people trying to be cowards and get over with life but for some it seems like their only way out of the mental prison they are in.

Unfortunately some see no other solution to escape from the inner demons in their lives and choose it over other methods, be that due to lack of guidance/assistance from loved ones or loss of wilfulness to keep fighting a seemingly never ending battle.

It is sad that people who can make people laugh and feel happy aren't themselves all that happy. RIP Robin Williams, you will be missed.
