As some of you may have saw these videos around youtube with random people pouring ice cold water on their bodies as a challenge here is the story of it:
The origins of the idea of dumping cold water on one's head to raise money for charity are unclear and have been attributed to multiple sources. During the Northern-Hemisphere winter of 2013–14, a challenge of unknown origin often called the "Cold Water Challenge" became popular on social media in areas of the Northern United States. The task usually involved the option of either donating money to cancer research or having to jump into cold water.[4]
One version of the challenge started in New Zealand on July 4, 2014, with a fundraising page on behalf of the Cancer Society to help support patients and their families through the trauma of a cancer diagnosis. As with similar challenges, it was usually filmed so footage can be shared online.

The challenge was popularized in the United States on June 30 2014 when the Golf Channel Morning Show televised the social media phenom and performed a live on-air ice bucket challenge.[6] Soon after, on July 15, 2014, golfer Chris Kennedy did the ice-bucket challenge and challenged his cousin Jeanette Senerchia of Pelham, NY, whose husband, Anthony, has had ALS for 11 years. A day later she did the challenge while her 6-year-old daughter filmed her in front of their house. Senerchia's network on Facebook connected with Pat Quinn, a 31-year-old in Yonkers, NY, who was diagnosed with ALS in March 2013. Quinn called upon his friends and family. Soon, his whole network was posting challenges, including family in Florida, friends in Ireland and Greece, and a bar full of locals, which was broadcast on local television.
Local Green Bay radio and TV personality John Maino performs the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Quinn's Facebook network overlapped with Massachusetts resident and former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates, who has ALS and began posting about the challenge on Twitter.
The ice bucket challenge has also become popular in the United Kingdom through social media, with participants doing it for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The President of the United States, Barack Obama, was challenged by Ethel Kennedy but declined, opting to contribute to the campaign with a donation of $100. Justin Bieber, LeBron James, and "Weird" Al Yankovic also challenged President Obama after completing the Ice Bucket Challenge.
The rules of this are:
Within 24 hours of being challenged, participants are to video record themselves in continuous footage. First, they are to announce their acceptance of the challenge followed by pouring ice into a bucket of water. The bucket is then to be lifted overhead and poured over the participant's head. Then the participant can call out a challenge to 3 other people.
In one version of the challenge, the participant is expected to donate $10 if they have poured the ice water over their head and donate $100 if they have not. In another version, dumping the ice water over the participant's head is done in lieu of any donation, which has led to some criticisms of the challenge being a form of slacktivism.
Some of celebrities I found around youtube are:
Mark Zuckerberg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h60Hanm9kng)
Macklemore (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS7WZznByy8)
Bill Gates (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS6ysDFTbLU)
Dr.Dre (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM8iK3QJfhg)
Demi Lovato (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OluUeUBfc1s)
And many many more.
Have fun watching the videos :)

I reckon we should turn this into Argonath fun.
Someone kicks it off, then they nominate 3 of the people in Argonath to do it. The chain then continues
-
Was thinking the same... Don't expect me to do it. Had 2 heart surgeries last year, not going to risk anything lol

Same. But i had one only but still no.
-
Okay look, I will start it tomorrow.
I will challenge 3 names from argonath people. If those people doesn't accept the challenge they will have to sponsor a payday.

Bumpity bumpity bump.

Where is the video Bruce? :D

what's the point of doing it if you are not going to donate to the als foundation???
-
Where dem videos at.. Bruce we are waiting for your video ;)

People are just taking to the extreme now with this, good that it's for charity and all but some of the videos I've seen are just way beyond what it's supposed to be. It's to the point that people aren't doing it for charity but to out-do the next person such example is diving head first into a bin off a set of ladders.
This got old before it even began.

The way i see it it's bunch of idiot's doing this bullshit and wasting water that some other country's would love to have.No body of those would donate they just would throw them self's a cold water do their bullshit and after this just walk away think about africa and other country's that would need this water to survive when a hundred people daily are dying for this reason.
-
-quote-
All water spend by waterparks, even your country, that could have been 'saved' for Africa, per day, is around 200-300x the amount of all water used by the IceBucket challenge in total.
Its good, yes they waste water, so what? They also donate $10 to charity.
-
About the wasting water thing, when you take a shower you use several times that much water. Every time you do the washing up, that's about a bucket or so.
That said, this thing has still become a bandwagoning farce. It's not even that I'm not bothered to do it, I just don't want to be one of the many dozen people on facebook going "oh do look at me fitting in because of peer pressure", since that's all it's become.
-
If you do this, remember the point... ALS awareness and fundraising. Don't do it just do it to be cool, after you do it spare a few extra and donate to the cause.

I'll copy what I said from Fb earlier.
"So how many of you that done the challenge actually know what ALS is? Seems to me that hardly anyone does and you're just doing this ice bucket challenge because it's something to do and to get your friends to do, not bothering to check out what all this is for just makes you ignorant."

Yea it may be but most of the people that are doing it don't even know the reason abot it.

People make big ordeals about stupid things like this all of the time. There's nothing special about pouring some ice water over your head.
Want to donate? Then donate.

I say lets avoid bringing this to Argonath because the challenge is no longer fun and lost all of it's meanings
plus it doesn't help our community with anything...

I feel sorry for the time loss, trying to say something correct to stupid people on Facebook who won't understand. It looks like most people are made to do every stupid thing they see other stupid people doing.
And even if they did it fo ALS and donated, it still is stuid because only 7% of the money collected went to the research they invented this for.
-
wats the challenge in this shit
i do it all the time when i take a shower during winter
-
As long as you actually donate to the cause, I don't think it matters what you do. Go ahead and have a bit of fun whilst you're doing it. The challenge, despite the fact that it has become more of a "show off" now, has still raised a lot of awareness and most people I know have donated after.
Regarding the argument about wasting water, please take into consideration how much water you use on average during the day before you worry about a little bucket of water.
-
If it's about the donation at all we all can collect a little amout of money in argonath we are like 500-1000 people in the forums if every one donate at least 1$ and after this send it to the charity we would help them a lot there is not point of doing this bullshit with the water.

While this is a good idea, I don't know what the big deal about the challenge is. It's just a bit of fun that so happens to raise awareness for the very disease that we're donating to - at least I find people's reaction to it hilarious
-
Don't nominate if you don't donate. Simple as that.
-
I laughed hard, lol.

If I had a way to get that water to Africa, i`d surely do. And i would donate loads of baths of water there. But the thing is - we just aint so hi-tech , to make the things go to the places , where you need them most.
