It's been a few years since I last saw the SA:MP Oscar awards performed. It would be nice to try and get this system back active again for yearly awards. I know in the past we have had trust and honesty issues, so it would be nice to hear ideas from the community on how you feel we can try and improve a system for fair voting and give everyone an equal chance for nomination purposes. Who knows maybe if we develop a system we can go about putting this award ceremony back into place by the end of the year! Any thoughts or suggestions please post them below!

Would be nice to see it back, I'll have a look.
Though, oscar awards will be community based instead of SA:MP i think.

Perhaps voting could be integrated in the RS5 panel to prevent voter abuse?
-
Caoin counted teh votes but didn't announce bcuz i think it was too late. Well, blame him.
-
The Oscars were abandoned because of the vast majority of people cheating with multiple accounts/bribing for votes.
-
Were the results of the 2010 oscars ever released?

This is great. If people want to rig votes, they would need to multi account ingame. That is a bannable offence so this will prevent them from doing so.
It's just a matter of how can we stop the countless PM's saying 'vote for me, vote for me'
If this proposition goes through, can we please have proper 'awards' to give out. I remember being nominated and came 3rd place for the 'Best Ban Evader' award. Really..?

Which sad wannabe popular c*** bribes for votes in a gaming community?
No really they should be name, shamed and then banned from any future oscars permanently.

Limiting it to samp panel would mean that there would be no Oscars for other servers.

The majority of the community plays SAMP anyway.. I wouldn't see that as a big issue.
80% SAMP
20 % Other

Where did you pull that out from?
Rest of the community sure doesn't make 20% of it. IV:MP's been pretty successful, so has been MTA:SA. There are still players who enjoy VCMP or MTAVC, along with minecraft and other minor servers. Ignoring those servers is not an option.

I think that's a good idea.
And on this issue:
Limiting it to samp panel would mean that there would be no Oscars for other servers.
Perhaps only SA:MP voting could take place in the panel. As far as I remember SA:MP was the only server really having problems with cheating for votes. The other servers had significantly less votes than SA:MP making them much easier to keep up with.
Also instead of having one person organize the Oscars I think there should be one person in charge of the Oscars for each server. That way it avoids any conflict of interest and would avoid an overflow of work on their part.

It would be great for Oscar Awards to be held in this SA:MP server. :app: I would like to come as a spectator, please.

That's actually a good idea!
-
Don't most servers have their own panel ?
-
I really like the idea. Sure we can certainly do a community wide Oscar Award ceremony but I would also like to see individual servers conduct their own award ceremony as well. I think integrating the voting into the RS5 panel is a wonderful idea. Hopefully we can get in contact with Gimli and see if something like that is possible and if so we can start organizing the event and getting categories set up.

In my opinion what made bribing for votes possible in previous oscars was the fact that everyone could openly see other peoples votes. If this was integrated in the panel or even much more simply just sent to one trusted persons PM inbox then this would/could prevent people seeing who other people have voted for which would make it much harder for people to bribe people to vote for them as they would have no real evidence that the person did actually vote for them.
p.s. I think bringing the awards back is a nice idea as it would add an incentive for people to start playing and even making roles for themselves/striving to win one of these awards.

Maybe use ArgoNET(its a global network afterall)?, It was said to be released in early 2014
-
Or just use one of the hundred available online survey services, pretty sure they do the counting for you as well

It'd be a very good back. Hope to see Oscar awards back to us.

Best Idea to prevent from the cheating/abusing of voting.

Haven't really been on one but that would be extremely easy to get around by either using a different IP or different email each time.

I think the whole system of the oscars was flawed.
It should be rather replaced with a roleplay system, of mayors who give out awards to the citizens who do good.
If corruption happens there, meh, it's roleplay isn't it? and what is the FBI for :) ?
The selection of the Nominees is more important process than the voting for those persons.
If we had the ability for EVERYONE to be nominated, then it'd just cause corruption.
If for example, there was a Funny cop award, the people would need to provide evidences in roleplay of where in which an officer did a funny thing. It's as simple as that.
The nomination committee can then see if the candidate is worthy to be put up.
If the awards were more roleplay orientated, it'd be much more sensible.

And the impartiality of the one counting votes at the time

Good old days with systems more corrupt and broken than Zimbabwe. :war:

We had one earlier this year (or was it last year?) For whatever reasons the results never became public.
