Title: Reviving my notebook
Post by: Kaze on November 02, 2014, 01:29:42 pm
Specs:

Intel® Atom™ N2600 (Dual Core; 1.6GHz) Processor
1GB RAM
20GB HDD (My 320gb HDD died, used my 20gb Xbox HDD)

I only have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit disk with me. I highly doubt a system like this will be able to work with Windows 7. Should I try and go for Ubuntu?

I will strictly use this notebook for XMBC/Kodi (http://kodi.tv). It will permanently be connected to my TV via HDMI.

I suggest buying a bigger HDD before you take any next step. Search eBay, you can find some on the cheap.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit requires 20gb by itself.  :cowboy:

I'm not looking to 'invest' in this notebook. I 'recycled' this HDD

Yeah, I went yolo and got Xubuntu. It only took like 7gb or something which is quite good. I literally have only XMBC installed for streaming movies/tv shows.

I'm having issues with 'closing my lid' on my notebook. The notebook 'suspends' when I close the lid (blank screen on my TV) I've tried everything on the 'Power' section.

Make sure you have all of the appropriate drivers installed. Sometimes generic ones can cause issues, both on Windows and *nix.
