Hello fellow VC:MP players,
I have some issues installing VC:MP
I installed the game, and when I try to install VC:MP in the folder it pops up several errors about reading some files.
I tried installing VC:MP in another folder and it worked, but once I found Argonath server and double-clicked on it, it started in single-player mode.
Any suggestions to fix it? I would like a step-by-step explanation on what to do to get it running.
Thanks in advance!

Try running the installer in administrator mode, and make sure you are installing to the same folder that Vice City is installed in.
-
Get gta-vc.exe version 1.0 (english) and it'll work.
-
Try manually resetting the GTA VC Folder for VC:MP by going into the client settings. Also, make sure that both .exe's are in the same compatibility mode if in any and are ran by administrator rights.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try everything you've stated tomorrow and let you know. Thanks again!

You only need to test what I said, the reason why the VC:MP puts you to single-player is because of wrong .exe version.

Is there a problem if VC:MP is installed in different directory? It wont let me install in the same folder as the game.

There would be a problem, yes. What error are you getting?

If nothing else works, try to install GTAVC to say C:\GTAVC and VCMP to same location, instead of the program files (sometimes Windows f**ks up permissions in Program Files, thus disallowing you to say, install VC:MP to already existing location).
Another thing, do you install the game with steam?

I am getting a 'failed to read [filename]' for every file.

I have already tried different folder, but it was still in program files. I'll try once I'm home.
Also no, Im not using Steam.

Just try to reinstall the game and VCMP perhaps? :)

For the 25th time, I now will. :P

Having VC in program files caused me many problems with permissions and stuff. Install it somewhere in your user folder or something. Also when downloading VCMP download it to the desktop and then move the files manually into the VC directory. If theres a problem with your exe like Kessu said, you can go get the no CD patch of the correct version.

Installed in a new directory, applied the 1.0 No DVD thing and it works. Thank you everyone for the help, I'll see you around on the server! :)

Good to hear. See you ingame. :)

I registered yesterday and played for a while although I was alone in the server, but today when I click 'connect' it pop up an error saying "Unable to execute" - the game just won't run. Any ideas?

Make sure the compatibility mode of gtavc.exe and vcmp.exe are the same, and also re-set the Vice City Installation Location in Tools > Settings to the file where you've got the game installed.
If the error still occurres after you did these two things, it's will be a riddle for me.
PS. You are one unlucky bastard with your VCMP.

Thanks, Nylez. It worked!
Last (I REALLY HOPE!!!) issue -not important- is a spam of messages whenever I close VC:MP. It doesn't affect the game tho.

Ye, that's normal on windows 7 and Vista (dunno about 8). You just simply have to spam the enter key till the windows are gone every time.

To fix this, you need to change both gtavc.exe and vcmp.exe to Windows 98 / Windows Me compatibility mode, the errors will be gone.
Glad to have helped. :)

After doing that remember to go through single-player first to change back your settings (resolution), they get reset when changing compatibility mode.

You could also download fixed VC-MP browser, made by V-rokcer.
