Is it recommended to have frame limiter set to ON or OFF? My game runs a lot smoother with it turned off, but what is best?

Server forces it on.
-
Turning off the frame limiter gives you advantage over most players in combat and driving, however, the game tends to crash a lot when the frame limiter is off.
Argonath RPG has recently joined the rest of VCMP community and has disallowed disable'ing the frame limiter and forces it to stay on.

No it does not.
-
It's debatable..

"Recently" as in since 2 years ago or so.

That's a lie, it doesn't give you extra speed.

It affects a few cars, increasing their acceleration, but decreasing top speed.
In version 0.4, the server will not force frame limiter on and will let players to choose their own FPS as they please, because FPS really doesn't make that much difference that it could be called "gaining advantage over other players".
If you wish to test how much FPS differentiates your combat results, poke me when I'm ingame and you I'll prove it to you that it does not give you any advantages.

Well, when I used to be annoyed by getting pwned by EAF's all the time, I'd always turn off my frame limiter and have some of them killed. Explain then? ;/

That doesn't even make sense.

That doesn't even make sense.
But it WORKED :D

But it WORKED :D
Maybe you got lucky, EAF possibly started underestimating you because you already got killed numerous times?
I've had a few fights with Kessu when he had 60 FPS and some when he had 30 FPS (Not in Argo ofcourse). It even looked like he was on a disadvantage when he had 60.
It's not such a big deal.

Do it 100 times, see how many times you kill on 60 FPS compared to 30 FPS ;)

Now the question I want to ask is wether FPS adjusting is now banable or not, since I have always been playing on either 144 or 60 FPS.

FPS adjusting is allowed, because it does not give you advantages (theorycrafted by stormeus in some point, cba to search for link).

Let's just throw it out here, that intentionally lowering your FPS to create lag can infact get you kicked, worst case even banned (Shadow has some personal experience on this) :D

Thanks for the PM, hopefully Stormeus' answer was helpful.
Good luck with everything Paya.
