I received my new laptop but I can't play GTA SA at full HD. The gets stuck at some 1680x900 something resolution, no more than that.
Also, the game can't use my laptop's GPU (since at all settings maxed at what it can reach, it averages 35 FPS). My GPU is the GTX 860M GM107 (which by the way is almost as powerful as the desktop GTX 750 Ti).
Any idea what is happening?
Specs
i5 4200H @ 2.8 GHz base.
8 GB DDR3 1600
GTX 860M 2 GB GDDR5
Win 8.1

Does your computer recognize your GPU?
To check that you gotta run "dxdiag" and go to the display tab. If it says your device name is GTX 860M GM107 then it recognizes it.

nope it doesn't. but i believe its cause it switches graphics card when needed.

Might be.
Now I don't have Win8 (I have Win7), so my instructions might be a bit off but here goes. Right-click my computer and click manage. Then go to the device manager tab and post a SS of that.
EDIT: In windows 8 you just need to run Device Manager just like you ran dxdiag

Alright now that it is not a recognition problem I think I know just what you need to do.
1. Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel by right clicking on your desk top and clicking on "NVIDIA Control Panel".
2. In the default screen that pops up (it should be "manage 3D settings", and the "Program Settings" tab should be automatically selected), under "1. Select a program to customize:" hit the "Add" button.
3. Navigate to gta_sa.exe and select it and click open
4. Under "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:" select "High-performance NVIDIA processor".
5. Click apply
This SHOULD work. Try it and return the news :)

Bump for others to give their input.
@Marco. Thanks. It now averages about 70 FPS but its nowhere near where it should be (100+) FPS. The reason I am consistent on getting 100+ fps is because this GPU is powerful enough to do that. This card is just as powerful as 650 ti which gets 100+ fps. (http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-860M-vs-GeForce-GTX-650-Ti-Boost)
Could it be outdated drivers?

Your laptop might not be giving the GTX the power it needs. Change power plan to high performance and check again.

Hey, I know the laptop sucks for gaming but that performance must give you a high fx quality and a good fps. :jackson:
However:
1. Collaborate in nVidia control panel, configure the gta_sa.exe to match your needs (but don't do all ultra, kay?)
2. Try running with context menu > run with nvidia performance...
3. Try updating your drivers - important
4. Try closing running programs in effort to give you a boost to virtual memory.
5. Try closing applications that use 3D
6. Try reinstalling GTA without mods, cars - clean installation. If you use disk ,it may be scratched.
7. Try running GTA: San Andreas with Windows XP SP3 compability.
8. Check your laptop for CPU usage, before and during game
9. Don't forget also to check for malware.
These could resolve the problem, surely 90%
If it still does lagging, it's something hardware related.
Peace out :)

Actually its fixed by mostly doing what you have said, thanks!!
