From the BBC news website.
Jeremy Clarkson's contract will not be renewed after an "unprovoked physical attack" on a Top Gear producer, the BBC's director general has confirmed.
Tony Hall said he had "not taken this decision lightly" and recognised it would "divide opinion".
However, he added "a line has been crossed" and he "cannot condone what has happened on this occasion".
Clarkson was suspended on 10 March, following what was called a "fracas" with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon.
The row, which took place in a Yorkshire hotel, was said to have occurred because no hot food was provided following a day's filming.
An internal investigation began last week, led by Ken MacQuarrie, the director of BBC Scotland.
It found that Mr Tymon took himself to hospital after he was subject to an "unprovoked physical and verbal attack".
"During the physical attack Oisin Tymon was struck, resulting in swelling and bleeding to his lip."
It lasted "around 30 seconds and was halted by the intervention of a witness," Mr MacQuarrie noted in his report.
"The verbal abuse was sustained over a longer period" and "contained the strongest expletives and threats to sack" Mr Tymon, who believed he had lost his job."

They still plan on keeping Top Gear, with new presenter(s). Personally I don't think it'll work.

Honestly its such a shame, Top Gear will never be Top Gear without Jeremy Clarkson in the driving seat, if all doing what he has done I feel that a very hefty fine or a suspension for a period of time would have been better but not a full sacking I feel that they have messed up alot with doing what they have done, Ive seen pages after pages of people boycotting the BBC etc. seems that this is only the beginning.
I dont fully support what he has done but footballers do this shit all the time, Saurez physically bit someone, Zidane headbutted someone not the same but still forms of GBH what is a serious crime in the UK they get away with it, fines and suspensions just a shame it had to end this way for him, hopefully they realized what they have done isnt the right way forward.

RIP Top Gear :(

What Jeremy did shouldn't be condoned (although I'm sure we aren't all aware of what ACTUALLY happened), but he shouldn't have got sacked. I hope they don't replace him, I would rather there be no Top Gear at all.. In all honesty it sucks because I really loved the show :(
And like James May said, "the man is a knob, but I quite like him!"

Although I had not watched Top Gear in a while this sucked.... I'd rather fire that producer that (served hin cold food?) than to fire Jeremy. Just seems like shooting themselves in the food. Hoping James and Richard finish their contracts and then all three can be picked up by another tv-channel to produce something new!

May and Hammond are about to resign as well.
