The forums have always been sluggish, but lately it's been worse than ever. 20+ seconds (peaking to a full minute) is unacceptable for a forum of any size.
Either the server is overloaded, the network is congested or there is a lack of caching and optimization in the database. Either way, this needs to be fixed.
If you need proper webmaster help, please let me know.

This happends to me too, it needs around 20-40sec to open a new page on forum.
-
I was gonna post about it today, it's getting really annoying
-
FBI forums down too tbh
-
Yep, really slow. Takes me sometimes over 30+ seconds to load a page.. :neutral2:
-
LOL ! It's nice that someone made this topic cuz i was ready to call my internet provider and fuck them up. :dead:
-
I've tried fixing the item today, but the forums just kept crashing on me, I'll try and taking another look in to this morning, see if I can find and solve the solution. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone.
-
It seems to be occurring only when you click on "new" message and when you're navigating through the "RE:" ones.

No harm meant but I'm sorry..

What have you tried to fix and what do you define as crashing? Are you getting error messages? This needs to be fixed asap.

Nothing wrong with load times.
I guess Sauron shutting down some things did improve it, he was not happy with the 15k messages returned from a spam exploit....
-
ARPD forums are even worse.

It seems to be better right now, although there is still a delay in connecting to the webserver itself at first. Yesterday it took me almost a full minute using a 4G LTE data connection on my phone. Once the page starts loading, it usually loads at a decent speed. It is the initial connection where the problem appears to be hiding.

Exactly. It means the problem was likely in the PHP/SQL phase which could be linked to poor database maintenance or too many plugins.
Either way, it seems to be gone now and page loads are faster.
EDIT: Not that much, it seems. (http://i.imgur.com/fe5Qtgx.jpg)

Just for clarification, the Argonath website is not on a dedicated server but on a shared VPS.
This means that issues with other sites running on the VPS as well as issues with other VPS running on the same server can influence performance.
No webmaster is able to influence this, only the manager of the VPS or the provider managing the hardware can solve issues. To blame the webmasters for something they are unable to handle is false and at least some of the people spreading these rumours should know better.

Well....... ara.argonathrpg.com is still down :/
Now it has been 8-9 months and ARA forum is still not running :(

Contact Gandalf directly via PM. That is not related to this topic.

Are there any other Argo websites on that shared VPS that we can test against? This website and ARPD's seem to be the only ones I know of off-hand that have had serious loading issues.

The database has been a known issue for quite some time. Whether it is the cause or not is still a mystery, because I keep getting differing answers on it.
@Gandalf: The speeds seem to have picked up again. The problem appears to be sporadic, and worsens with time. Whatever you did to fix it seems to only be a temporary solution, but it does work.
Edit: Disregard that last part. Upon submitting this post, the load time increased very heavily trying to connect to the webserver.

Just to clarify: I'm not "blaming" the webmasters and i'm certainly not spreading rumours. I'm only stating factual stuff i'm experiencing (which is very sluggish performance and long loading times) and publicly posting that to see if others experience the same and if staff/webmasters/whoever is responsible is aware of these issues. I ended my post with the offer to help the team in solving this.

There is a reason for that.

Problem seems to be solved. "Page created in 1.596 seconds with 21 queries."

Great!
