Title: DDR3 & DDR3L ram questions.
Post by: Axison on August 04, 2015, 04:59:50 am
Heya Folks!

I just purchase a 4GB DDR3 ram stick for my laptop(which already has 6GB of ram installed). I wanted to upgrade to 8GB for a change. After i installed the new ram stick, i noticed that my laptop wasn't recognizing the new ram and stayed at 4GB. Previously it had a 4 & 2GB ram sticks which totaled 6GB. I removed the 2GB and replaced it with 4GB.

Since it wouldn't work, i put my old ram back and it worked fine. I took a peek at my laptops detailed specs and it said "6GB DDR3L" and i purchased a DDR3 ram. Would this problem occur due to that? or does it not matter?

Thank you for any help provided...

DDR3 and DDR3L RAM not the best idea to be mixed together as they run on different voltages.  This is probably why your laptop won't recognize the newly installed RAM, looks like you might need to change the other module so your RAM is all one.

Yeah agreed, your board will *probably* accept both types of RAM, but don't mix them, make sure all the modules are of the same type.
