Title: GTA IV on GTX 970 and i5 4690k Problem
Post by: Luke on September 11, 2015, 12:02:19 am
Alright so I know that IV is bad optimized with PC so I would like if possible for someone to give me a commandline.txt which will make it able to run on my 970 and i5 4690k, I easily have enough requirements just it stays below 60fps, I bought this game so many years back and have been dying to play IV:MP but everytime I try it just don't let me, any help?

Might be a commandline in the IV:MP board somewhere.

What kind of error do you get ?
I'd go with:

-nomemrestrict
-norestriction

Considering your specs, you shouldn't have problems but we know that GTA IV is buggy.

If you have steam version, try adding those lines to the .exe file

Uhm, weird. Try to run it in compatibility mode (XP or Windows Vista)

At moment i don't have any idea other than reinstalling the game and it's components from scratch including DirectX. You can try reinstalling DirectX first, but i guess it won't help much.

Googling this error redirects you to many pages and cases. Just out of curiosity, are you on Windows 10 or 8.1?

ps: try also removing the commandline lines as they give problems and launch "LaunchGTAIV.exe" using compatibility mode

Alright fixed it, the command line works and so does the game, but how do I get more FPS out of this? as I have random spikes?

Oh well, can you tell me what you did to solve it? It may be useful for others in future. Anyway, for the lag spikes try turning off the vsync first. You could also try using this:

-availablevidmem 10.0

You can try higher values if that doesn't work. To be honest, with -norestrictions and -nomemrestric it's just weird that it still lags.

Or something is wrong in your PC, Eg: corrupted memory, Graphic card etc, GTA 5 works good? you did any Render tool (benchmark) to see if there is lag and what the fps is ?

I have a similar issue with my GTX 970 too. Honestly I think it is just more of the game being poorly ported than anything else. GTA V runs better for me on max settings than IV does, and I have an older CPU than the one you listed.

To add to this, make sure you are using the latest video card drivers. Some of the older ones had compatibility issues recently.
