Last year, I posted a similar topic here. This year, I've been scaling up my production with other vegetables plus a bigger amount of potatoes. Next year, I will probably get my field up and running and will maybe generate 1 - 2 tonnes of potatoes and if I get more appreciation, I may even scale it up even more.
I've been growing two different kind of potato sorts, one is a Swedish potato with require cold and long time in the soil, it's very expensive potato and deluxe. It tastes nothing like normal potatoes, it's fantastic. We call it Mandel Potatoes.
The other one is normal food potatoes, of the brand Rocket, it's very cheap and requires normal time to grow, they are normal day potatoes.
I got a few kilos in potatoes, much more out of screen, but due of different circumstances, I cannot show them right now.
What you guys think? Should I continue? :)

I love potatoes, I would love to grow my own. What do the 'deluxe' potato's taste like though, any way you can describe them?

They are grainy in consistency and very dry kind of, together with butter you get a fantastic meal, with some meat ofc!
They are also hard to boil due the grainy consistency, because if you boil them too long, you crack them wide open.
The reason why they are only grown in cold temperature is because of the same reason, if you grown them in a hot climate, they get even more grainy and makes it impossible to boil them without destroying them totally. :)

This is what premium quality Svensson potatoes look like. :cowboy:

Sounds good, I'll be sure to come by to buy some of you when you have grow the 1-2 tonnes.

Can you bring some to the Svensson meeting?

I heritage some old mark soon, mostly wood but I got around three fields possible for growing potatoes. I might do it!

I read that the dark one(almost blue in color) is the first kind of carrot, the other have been modified and evolution ed. The one that has been standardized over the past
decades is the orange one though, but that hasn't been the case always! :)

Haha, yes. Same could be done with potatoes too. There is potatoes in different colors too! (Blue, red, green, orange, white etc.. :p)
A very known potato for it color is Blue Congo Potato;

It also goes under the name "Blue Swede" as the origin of the mutation comes from Sweden! :)

and to think the only other variant of potato i knew was the sweet potato.

Haha.
There are about 5,000 potato varieties worldwide and people are creating new sorts all the time. You probably wonder how they can create different kind of potatoes? Well, I know how it's done, but that is a whole science lecture about bee's and evolution and how you can speed the evolution up! :D
Same for other vegatables, they exist in different shape and colors and so on, just like animals / humans.. For example, who knew it exists over 20,000 different kind of rice varieties? hehe ;)

we were actually told stuff like that in Bio. for example i am guessing it has to do something with how they genetically modify plants so that their genome can actually host genes that make proteins and toxins that kill pests.

How's it going with the potatoes?

They are planted down, wait 2 month and you'll see em! :cowboy:

I have recently started a small container farm on my balcony, carrots, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers and basil. It's just for show and a way to waste time, I'm also trying to propagate some supermarket mint but it just keeps failing :(
Pics will be posted when actual progress is made, right now they're just tiny indistinguishable seedlings :P
