Title: Are you a student in Information Technology (or equal)? Read here.
Post by: Teddy on October 03, 2015, 04:32:42 am
We're looking for students who are looking for taking on a new learning experience. We are looking to have a helping hand with system administration. We are running a dedicated server (Linux) which houses a series of virtual machines (Linux & Windows). If you didn't understand any of that you can stop reading. The inital system administration team consisted of two people, myself and Conroy who has since departed. I've been left to manage all the systems. This includes outage interventions, security, maintenance, regular checks, and of course aiding server leaders in anyway they need. I've been doing fairly well on my own but have reached a point where I do need an additional person to aid in these tasks.

I cannot stress enough how serious of a position this is. I will show you the entire layout of our systems, networking protocols, custom software we have running to ease maintaining the systems, and any thing else you need to learn to get comfortable into the position.

What you will need to do:

Help in performing regular, weekly, updates.
Help in performing intervention requests, including investigating outages, updating system resources, install system packages (as required), and general aid to server's management.
Perform regular and vigorous security checks.
Help in the development of a management panel (not required, but helpful, experience in Node.js and Express.js a plus)

What you will need to qualify for this position:

Nearly spotless history in Argonath expanding more than 3 years.
Ability to work with Linux systems (multiple distributions, versions, and connection methods), and Windows systems (server versions).
Understanding of maintaining, securing, and updating the above systems.
Understanding of MySQL, MySQL servers, and common practices for maintaining, securing, and updating MySQL.
Absolute transparency, an entirely different and maximum level of trust, and most importantly honesty.

If you think this experience is something for you then send me a PM with a bit about you (age, location, etc), why you want to help, what you hope to learn from this experience, and a bit about your education and career plans in IT.

I suggest DellStorm from 2012. Other than that, @Armelin
Good luck guys. Don't forget if you're interested in learning Linux or any other operating systems, journey forward into wikipedia then into distrowatch there's some amazing resources you can all get involved in. Just because this opportunity might not be open to you right now doesn't mean it won't be in the future. If you put the effort in to learn you will be rewarded. <3 Dell.

Possible, but its very likely that I can't submit to the weekly updates/security checks because college tends to love twisting your arm while sandwiched against the wall.
There's quite a lot on my plate just like teddy, although I might be able to divide the workloads/times. Reactive activities I can do without trouble.

I have submitting myself as an applicant, but due to current circumstances, doubt i'll hear back anytime soon. :(
