Some of you who pay attention to our changelog may have noticed the next version will have a skill system core. This is exactly as you would think, it's a traditional skill system. What does it do for you in this update? Absolutely... nothing. This is only the core and other systems must be adapted to use it. So what will use it? Crafting, hacking and the creation of drugs for starters.
The skill system permits skills ranging in skill rank from 1 to 20, and generally enables some sort of benefit for higher skills. By default you have no skills and can only have 5 skills at a time. There is also a skill-tree system, where some skills can only be learned once you learned another skill.
Achievements will only be supported currently by the Notoriety system but future uses are essentially endless and planned. There is a slight bonus for gaining an achievement. The future panel will allow you to showcase achievements to the community.
Feeling a little MMORPGY? Good. That's the idea. I have noticed it gets quiet boring to do the same things over and over again with really nothing consistent, so these updates aim to add more activities and challenges to keep us all working for something other than just extra zeros in the bank account. Happy grinding.

The level of your skill has direct bonus in different aspects in the game; for example in crafting higher level means less chance of failing and at even higher levels a chance to make bonus copies. Once you do reach level 20 in each skill you do get an achievement.

i dont like where this all skills and crafting stuff is going, i think we should keep stuff easy, nothing overly complicated, a skill system is just too much imo

exactly why it's entirely optional, you don't need to do stuff you don't want to. There's a medic script, doesn't mean we force everyone to be medics right?
