Hello,
I must admit when I wanted to get back in as a developer my intent was only to help. Now it seems that doing so is impossible and impractical. I will not spend 20+ hours a week scripting for a bunch of ungrateful people. I'm not here to be appreciated or anything, so that's not it, but I won't stand for constantly getting bitched at, blamed for stuff, accused of random things, and shit on. I am honestly affected in real life by the weight of all this stress and I find it hard to keep motivated to work on things. Admittedly I cannot keep doing this anymore, I have a lot going on elsewhere to be worried over the stress of this. I am not leaving for good I am just going to take an extended break. Think what you want of me, all I've ever wanted to do is help but I guess that's just not possible currently.
To those who have had nothing to do with this, I am sorry it's led to this. I am sorry development and progress will essentially stall in my absence. I really do apologize.
Regards,
Teddy

Big shame Teddy, Argonath will really be missing out now that all the hard work you've been doing will stop, anyone who doesn't appreciate your work doesn't understand how much effort you clearly put in.
Hope you'll be back at it soon! :janek:
-
rip rs5 :(
-
We all understand how furious you are and you have every right to be angry, sorry.
-
You're a fantastic person Teddy and you've done tons of good things for Argonath. In the beginning we had lost our way and with you stepping up as Lead Developer it has only going upward.
Take your time and remember there is people that still admire and love your work even if it may not sound like it.
Much love and respect from your Swedish brother!

So....mayor system delayed? :(

What the fuck ?

I can't say this was unexpected, it's not easy to have the same interest to make something better when the people you are working for are doing nothing but shitting and complaining on the work that it has been made.
While there are several people like that, there is another bunch who respects and appreciates all the work you've done for the server, focus on them rather than the critics of the people that doesn't know how much time you've spent doing everything what they have been asking for. Still, you deserve this rest, take enough time to think about all of it and come back when you feel ready to boost things up, much love Teddy.(https://az545065.vo.msecnd.net/skype-faq-media/faq_content/skype/screenshots/fa12330/emoticons/hug_80_anim_gif.gif)

You will be missed tedd...come back whenever you want. Just remember what Manoni said up there, there are still people who appreciate your work and will respect it forever.
Make Taco scripter!!
-
It hurts to see you like this again. It even brings me to a loss of words :neutral2:
For all the work you're doing you should be freed of the pressure and depression you'll get from it, Take your well-deserved break and live the most out of your life.
We'll be ready to welcome you back with open arms when you feel ready, and you can always leave it to us to keep things running while you're absent ;)
Thank you for all you've done for us, and we hope that after this people will take this as a lesson.
Good luck Teddy.
-
That's a big hit for the community. Do enjoy your life though, no point in staying somewhere that you're neither appreciated, nor paid.
-
I have always appreciated what you've done/been trying to do for the community, farewell for now, man!

Another tremendous loss for Argonath...
Thanks for all the efforts you've put in order to improve Argonath and provide us more fun, wish you best of luck.

Big loss for SAMP staff and developement team, hope to see you back soon!

I'll take off the purple suit :(
-
Well, I as a very small part of the community Deeply thank you for your efforts and all the time you spent. We all understand that.
Thank you again man. ;)
-
I always thank you on each update i see, you work with a non-paid job and do it perfectly, you were awesome, all the scripts you made are so fabulous, thank you very much for every single script you did.
you have all the right to be angry about it.
thanks again.
-
Fuck all man.
Thanks a lot.
-
Let's hope it's only a break. Relax, have fun and fingers crossed you are back soon mate.
Gaming communities always tend to not being satisfied and keep whining about everything, I thought you knew that first hand.
-
for the longevity of the community, the hq should be paid for all the hardwork they do. only appreciation is not enough, dear owner
-
The problem is that some people who get regular updates every week but they are never happy, they still demand and demand and demand without giving a single fuck who is working and spending their real life time on working for us. Meanwhile the other part is thankful towards you Teddy. Your absence will be felt alot around. Hope to see you soon again. Thank you Teddy, for all of your work.
To be honest, in the past, I always wanted something new or changed in the scripts. But these days, I understood how you are doing it. Your dedicating tons and tons of real life hours into making scripts for us. I am deplly sorry for being like that in the past, but now I know how much you work hard.
I can't be more grateful, you created so many good things in Argonath.
I hope your life was,is and will go well, and I hope you come back.
With your absence in the community, this is a hit to the face of Argonath. I hope to see you again soon, Teddy.
And finally, a BIG Thanks for all of your work.
-
Thanks for all the effort and time that you spent for us. You have worked hard to make Argonath a better place.
But unfortunately there are those ungrateful people that are doing nothing for the community and they have the courage to despise your hard work. Take your time, enjoy your life Teddy bear.
Thanks once again.
-
There's not enough money in the world that could ever pay you for all your hard work. There actually is but, anyway...
I hope you're reading all these posts and come to realize that there are a lot more of people who are thankful of your work rather than those who are not. In every aspect of our lives, there'll always be someone to throw us down because they can't stand our success.
Anyway, take some time out and chill. After all, you can really use some holidays, you've been working non-stop for the last couple of months. Enjoy and do whatever pleases you. You'll be missed.
See you soon, Teddy.
-
I've already contacted you privately about this.
Though, We want you back as soon as you are fully back!, if it takes month, no problem!
-
Oh, come on. Though there are indeed ungrateful people around the community, what makes you better is your attitude towards them. Those people do need you even if they don't realize the things you've done for the community. You've made a significant progress in both the SA-MP server and forums and now you're leaving? Come on!
Anyhow, we all know you'll be coming back (at least we hope so) soon but until then see you.
-
Unfortunately it's evidently clear that players forget that Argonath is run, managed and developed by volunteers giving their free time to keep things going; we dedicate our free time for hours each week to ensure the servers can keep on running and improving.
It reaches a point where people lose all will and motivation to continue; what does not help is when people insist on being far too needy for attention and constantly have to complain about matters instead of doing simple things like politely asking for assistance or even querying a change. Most if not all of those in HQ and the Development team either are working or are looking for work and or finishing their studies.
We do this to give back to the community; we put up with peoples nonsense and attitudes day in and day out. It gets to a point where we need to question ourselves as to what we are doing here. Sadly the behavior of some puts a downer on the mood and motivation to continue going on. All we ask is for people to be respectful, lose the bullshit trolling behaviour outside and show some respect for all that those keeping things going have done for the server.
There is no reason to be so disrespectful towards other players or even staff members on a gaming community; should we simply close everything down as people aren't able to be grateful for what has been given to them? All of this time is dedicated to the community to ensure that you can come along as you like to join the server and play when you wish whilst others administrating and developing the servers spend their time day in and day out trying to keep the ball rolling and keeping the server clean of troublemakers.
Think about how some of you come play for a couple of months every so often and you get to return to the same community after being gone and dealing with your lives for a couple months or even years in some cases.
Those that are dedicated to keep things running are here constantly even when you are not; bear that in mind when you wish to pass judgement on work done or even calls made by others.
-
Words to live by, Devin.
-
Even in this topic, you can see the behavior that Teddy, Devin, Manoni and few others pointed out, that lead to this situation.
That's really disappointing.
-
Wonder if we could have the list of such people, so I can enjoy having them pass the guilt to each-other while the rest of us flames the shit out of them.
-
I almost dropped a tear.
-
i really don't know how can i thank you for your hard work Teddy, only can i say is two words:
thank you.
-
After several years of watching you grow up and work within this environment, you always put as much effort into this community as anyone else, and then some. Your contribution to Argonath will not be forgotten. Argonath can only hope you'll be able to return someday in the near future, though keep your life as a priority.
We'll still talk obviously, but thank you for your dedication.
-
Thank you for everything you did for me and for the only gaming community im part of. I have that feeling that you will return one day, until then, farewell!
-
Thank you for everything you did for me and for the only gaming community im part of. I have that feeling that you will return one day, until then, farewell!
-
I never understood why you even did it, I know programming isn't fun when you get nothing out of it, nothing but people who don't appreciate your work and the effort you put it and people who only give you despair.
Good luck on the future!
-
As someone who was removed from the community during a time before you were in development of this, I can surely say that what I came back to is very impressive Teddy, I love it really.
Don't listen to what people who see the gradual change say, they don't see it.
It's like putting a frog in a boiling pot of water, it will notice that it's hot an will jump out, yet if you put the frog in a cold pot of water and slowly turning the heat up, the frog will not notice it boil and die.
In any regards Teddy, in all my years in Argonath, you are the greatest developer I've seen, and it's really sad to see you going..
-
I know me and you don't get along Teddy but if you listen to people who talk shit about your scripts and you actually listen to how the slate it off then im sorry you won't go far, you need to learn to forget the haters and continue with what others enjoy.
-
It's not about people getting annoyed by people talking shit about scripts; it is about the general lack of respect for others within the entire community.
It is an on going problem throughout the years and sadly some people always remain the same and their names come up each time.
Things are given to players; they're unable to be grateful for what has been provided to them free of charge, what others have spent hours and hours working on in their free time to give the players a server to play on. A server to visit whenever you would like to whilst others are spending their time developing it constantly.
A great and recent example is the mayoral system being introduced; it's evidently clear people are not able to differ real life from the game they are playing.
Direct attacks towards one another and then even to blaming developers and HQ for matters regarding the mayoral voting process, if we were to take this as an indication whether we should even bother implementing the system I for one would say close down all mayoral related news and systems.

-
@Teddy I think you're joking! Cant be true... come onn
-
These kids have basically giving us the boot. Another veteran 'taking a break' and ends up not returning. Take care Teddy, you've played a big role in Argonath's revival project. The way this community is going, I feel my days are also numbered here. I'm fed up too.
-
A huge shame, but it's not the first time that everyone has to suffer for the actions of other individuals, especially when it concerns someone who gave his all ever since day one.
Hope to see you back very soon, Teddy.
-
Hey Teddy, I'm sorry you feel that way. I can say though as a player from long ago, everything you're doing is on point. I never thought I'd return to Argonath yet here I am, loving it and desperately awaiting your every new addition. The same can be said about everybody, whether they are complaining or bitching about scripts or whatever it is, we're all still waiting on what you're bringing out. You, along with the rest of development are the future of our server. Please understand if we do get a bit uneasy about certain things, we're not doing it to directly attack you or the team, we just want to ensure we will have an awesome server to play on.
There will always be criticism where there is success mate, enjoy the break and I hope to see you back soon. :)
-
A great loss to the community and it's shameful that it has to come to this. I think we all forget that this is a game, and we are here to enjoy ourselves and in most scenarios make new friends. That's what a gaming community is created for. What some specific individuals fail to understand is there is a HUGE different between constructive criticism, and simply put, shitting on someone's work, and constantly bad mouthing the efforts put forth by Developers. We all need to realize that playing in the Argonath community is a privilege, it's certainly not a right.
Those of you that have been here as long as I've been here and some of you that have been here longer, can all agree that while we have seen the waves of developers and scripters in Argonath, there has NEVER in my honest opinion been someone who has been as interested in player suggestions and as pro-active as Teddy has been for this community and a lot of individuals fail to realize that Teddy was not only a scripter in SA:MP. He has a huge role in this community that goes far deeper than just SA:MP. The lack of a simple "Thank You" in this community is appalling and it needs to change immediately. I'm sick and tired of losing friends and valued individuals to this community because a certain number of individuals have a difficult time grasping the concept of respect.
Teddy, you're work has and never will go unnoticed. I will not allow any individual overshadow the work you have done for this community and will continue doing for this community, and that goes for anyone that contributes to this community from a development standpoint. There will never come a time when you work goes unnoticed in favor of providing attention to those who would rather bully and demoralize someones volunteer work for the better of this community.
-
Farwell!
Its very said to listen that, but we hope you will back once again,
-
For what its worth,
Teddy, you've always been the star player since my return during RS5. The progress Argonath has made since RS1.0 is tremendous, and as a coder/scripter, I know how ungrateful the position is. You've damn near single-handedly kept Argonath alive since @Gandalf and Ron have retreated to behind the scenes.
That being said, I'm glad you're considering this a temporary (who knows for how long though) leave of absence, and you are intelligent enough to take the time you need to get back to 100%. It's just a game and shouldn't affect you so greatly IRL... But that's the price of being Atlas. It's a hell of a burden, and your work is appreciated by hundreds if not thousands of people world-wide. Not many people in this world can say the same.
Your work is appreciated every day, when a player logs in, learns the systems and decides to stay. Because of YOU. You don't get the "thank you"s you deserve, but it is blatantly apparent. We will miss you greatly and Godspeed brother. Do what you gotta do, and when you come back, I will throw you a party personally to show you how many people care about you and appreciate what you've done. This will be a good refresh for the community though; you don't know what you have until it's gone. Now you are.....and all of us are going to be reminded of how instrumental you've been to this ENTIRE community.

What the Fuck .. But how about RS5 ?.. :v:
-
What the Fuck .. But how about RS5 ?.. :v:
Pretty sure you're one of the reasons why Teddy's leaving. Oh, the irony on your name... You people need to understand that he was doing his job WITHOUT ANYTHING IN RETURN. That said, you can't expect him to code ( and look it up it's not easy ) for 12hrs+ a day just so he can push an update on Sunday, when we all could play the game without it anyway. We're all sad to see that RS5's development will nearly stop, but that's not the point of this topic, is it?
-
@Teddy
Remember either in real life or in game, every offensive word that anyone ever says to you is just like a brick that you place under you. The more number of bricks you have, the higher morality and reputation you get :gand:
I really wish that you continue to script atleast not in game.
-
Such a shame, it is extremely sad to see you leaving Teddy you are one of the few person who were trying everything good for the community, we are losing a gem I must say that, hope you return soon.
Our wishes with you !!
-
As a long-time friend and highly valued programmer, I hate to see you go, even if only temporary.
The amount of moaning has been insane lately, however we will not let ourselves be put down by the people responsible for it. If you need to take a break, feel free to do so. The other developers, Devin and me have your back and will continue to provide the server with the updates it needs. There shall be no standstill in RS5.1 so you can eventually return to the servers' development and pick your work back up.
Stay strong, Teddybear!
-
Teddy, thanks a lot for all the effort you've put in this community. Sometimes we all take things for granted and don't understand what we actually lost until it's gone.
I think I speak for all of us when I say that I can't wait for you to be back man, hopefully we can all learn a lesson from this absence.
-
Just remember that this is a video game, a video game community that has no effect on your real life whatsoever. You do not need to answer to anyone here. We will not get you an education, we will not look after your health, we will not raise your children. This should be your free time thing, rather than become so important that i causes stress. Take your time.
-
Would anyone like to give a reason as to why those trying to improve the servers and community deserve to be treated like trash by some players; I am against using the word community members when I speak about those disrupting development due to their greed, blatant disrespect and complete and utter bullshit attitude towards others for god knows what reason.
Is it honestly too much to ask for people of which many are considered young adults in the real world to use the manners their parents should have taught them whilst growing up?
Would you speak to your grandparents or even other peoples parents and grandparents like you to do those dedicating their time within this community to ensure you have a server to play on?
-
Would anyone like to give a reason as to why those trying to improve the servers and community deserve to be treated like trash by some players
Because most persons are spoiled these days, so because they cannot make something of their lives either in real life or in a gaming life they will try to fuck up others or try be above them with
what they think are funny arguments or jokes, but are in reality incredible stupid.
therefor:
I am against using the word community members when I speak about those disrupting development due to their greed, blatant disrespect and complete and utter bullshit attitude towards others for god knows what reason.
Is it honestly too much to ask for people of which many are considered young adults in the real world to use the manners their parents should have taught them whilst growing up?
Their manners are not what they are used to be, in this 'internet' generation everyone want's to stand for something, stand above the other but instead we have to unite. WE are a community aren't we? why do we only moan? why the greed? why the disinterest? The developers spend their free time giving you a better experience..
Would you speak to your grandparents or even other peoples parents and grandparents like you to do those dedicating their time within this community to ensure you have a server to play on?
No they wouldn't, but this is the internet. So the don't give a f*ck.
To underline this: I have the same exact thought as devin, start behaving like adults instead of spoiled kids.
When you behave like this for no particular reason you will eventually scare away new players too.
To leave a side-note: respond on devin's reaction with decency, if you can't you will automatically be forum warned.
-
Alot of kids are spoilted today as traser writes and got little patience on "waiting for things to happend" Things needs to happend like, right here and now, those with little patience try some of the games out there where it can take YEARS to get to where you are, once you however get there it feels good and rewarding so it will also be if you leave teddy to do things in his own peace along with fixing bugs at the speed he's able to.
-

Teddy was purely the last spark this community had. Not trying to be rude, though.
And who are you to say that? Teddy might have really and seriously been a very important and hard worker to make this community better but we still have people who are still capable to keep this community alive. We don't need you or anyone else to come here and be Einsteins of Argonath with your drama stories. We are still here and alive, if you don't like it.. feel free to leave. ;)
-
Teddy was purely the last spark this community had. Not trying to be rude, though.
I wouldn't call it the last spark, because in my 7 years spent in this Community, I didn't saw any other scripters making so much amazing scripts that the Community actually wanted as much as Teddy did. With all do respect to other scripters.
I would rather call it the first real spark Argonath was waiting for, hopefully it wont be the last.
-

You can write stories and use overused quotes how much you want, but it doesn't do much of a difference when facts and the reality says that the community has been torn apart for the last two-three years and has already been through its glory days.
I would rather call it the first real spark Argonath was waiting for, hopefully it wont be the last.
Hopefully. The game itself isn't getting younger, though.

Seriously? Teddy announces he's leaving and all you can do is argue semantics? This is a major blow to our community even if it is a temporary but needed leave. Don't bring your petty shit here.
-
Sorry for being too honest.
-
You can write stories and use overused quotes how much you want, but it doesn't do much of a difference when facts and the reality says that the community has been torn apart for the last two-three years and has already been through its glory days.
That's a given. But what do you have to provide to the community besides the common "lets be srs-rp" and constant negativity (which you classify as being honest)?
Sorry, Que, but instead of the constant moaning, we need solutions that are:
-A. Fit Argonath (not srs-rp, no removing of /public, etc.)
-B. Are respectful and supported by the ENTIRE community, not just key individuals
-C. Make sense to spend time developing and implement
Everyone can say, "Oh how the old days were better", but nobody is willing to go forward.
In regards to Teddy, I felt this was coming. It's common for any involved individual to burn out. Take a break, take a month off, and then come back and finish strong. Realize that you may need to delegate some ideas to others, as well as maybe put off some of the plans on hold.
Personally, I'd focus more on the essentials (business script, etc.) before anything else (like the internet project).
-
Recommendation is to take arguments about the state of the server elsewhere and to keep this topic on the subject of Teddy's extended leave of absence.
Failure to comply to the above will result in action being taken.
-
Your work you have been doing to make this server alive again has been amazing and it's one of the reasons I came back. Hope things go well for you Teddy, hope you will be back soon.
-
RIP :(
-
A lot of amazing work got done thanks to you Teddy, remember there's players always grateful for that. Hopefully your leave is a temporary one.

It's a little something called human nature. People always want summer in winter and winter in summer.

I've not read all the replies but the few I've skimmed over are insightful and do remind me somewhat of why I decided to come back. While I wish I could return today I simply cannot. It's not about not being able to handle it really. I can handle the critics and everything just fine now that I look at it from a distant perspective. It's just a matter of, why should I? I need some time to really answer that question and I do think some time away will let me find that.
-

Lmao, here I am being 'negative' again - but honestly - with your talent, leader skills and astonishing loyalty to the community you serve, you should aim bigger. You're worth it. You are indeed capable of that and it's all about time until you finally realizes it. Whatever decision you make I am filled with respect for you and the other leaders who made a tremendous impact to Argonath. This only includes a few persons, though and I am quite sure they know as we have talked about it in earlier chats.
-
No one can quit this shitthole, it's our doom!
Glad to have you back ;)
-
Teddy - if you are not enjoying what you are doing, then indeed, why should you come back? To some scripting/programming can be a hobby, but in a setting like this it can become highly unenjoyable and overbearing. Perhaps you can find your own pace to work at, maybe more "behind the scenes," so that at least it may not become entirely unenjoyable.
I hope to see you back, Teddy. The implementation of ideas you are presenting to this server are the most innovative I have ever seen in my time of being here, and I highly appreciate you taking on the burden of trying to please displeased players by fixing an unfinished script. There are very few people with the talent to do what you are doing, let alone the patience and leadership skills that you possess.
-
Take all your time to think, we will be always waiting for you i'm sure after you left they got a lesson and they knew your value for the community it's not necessary to waste and spend time scripting if you're affected in real life. come back when you feel ready.

I do find it enjoying to do the scripting part, as I do find it enjoyable when I am working. The "why" in why should I come back is exactly what I am trying to find out. Yes, it's true I said I am taking a break but if I honestly cannot find the why, then truth is I won't be coming back. Thanks and I hope this gives some clarity.
I don't find this comment negative at all and you are not the first one to tell me this either. I love this community no matter what, it has been an escape for me far before I was anything in this community so I will always at least pop in. Thanks.

So....mayor system delayed? :(
Seriously.. is that your response to this kind of message from Teddy?
Ontopic:
Good luck Teddy, I havent been active in RS5 for an extended period of time, but in total I have quite a lot of playing hours to say that its a great system you created with RS5.
With change comes criticism, too bad people cant get used to the changes that happened and take their incapability to accept changes out on you.
Good for you to step aside for a while, I hope it will do you good.

I'm back in a much more limited capacity. I'll be focusing more on the development side of things only for a while before getting back fully into the full swing of things. I'm Netflix'd out. It was really reading over a lot of your messages that answered why I should stay, and that answer is because my work does do something; and that is create an environment where people can have fun and that after-all is all I wanted to do. Thanks.

Welcome back, Teddy. It's good to have you back.

I was raised to be try happy with what you got and what you get, especially if it's free. If you can't be happy with what you've been given for free, find ways to make it happen.
But seriously, those who are frustrated don't know the entire story. Let me fill you guys in -
A decision was made to release RS5 way behind schedule when the server host lost save data from RS4. While RS4 scripts were in tack, the account data was lost. There was a backup but it was a few months behind.
Rather than have many people whine about their virtual money, RS5 was released unfinished.. - Under the assumption it would be finished rather quickly.
But it wasn't. Why? Well the team at the time did have real life ordeals, but they didn't do a whole lot indeed. This was due to internal conflicts between some members of management and the scripting team. I'm not gonna mention names but essentially due to some folks not getting along, rather than tough it out, the scripting team actively refused to script, essentially holding the community's progress in captivity.
Eventually that team was dissolved. And what they did not do in 2 years has been done in 5 months. And let me tell you - the community was lucky it happened the way it did, because otherwise you'd be waiting a lot longer for the new team.
So now that you know, PLEASE don't blame the new team for the irresponsibilities of the old team. And be THANKFUL that this has happened and Teddy is fully committed.
Because there is no back up this time around... So be thankful for the scripts you have and support the current team's efforts, because without them I can assure you the community would be in a LOT worse shape to the point of almost no existence...
