Title: Do you know the origins of Svastika?
Post by: Huntsman on December 06, 2015, 11:17:18 am
For a lot of people Svastika associates with Nazi Germany and the horrible crimes they have committed. A lot of controversy has been sparked in Eastern Europe when multiple history students in Lithuania have been marching through the streets with photographs of svastika's on various ancient rings and other ancient jewelry. They have been arrested, but the court has ruled the case in their favor and found them innocent of any crime. It has sparked a lot of controversy, especially in Russia, where the Russian television used the incident to fuel their "Baltics are Nazi, Lithuanians are fascists" machine.

There is a reason why they have been found innocent.
The svastika has existed for hundreds of years before Germany even existed as a country. It has been found in various pagan cultures and represented the gods or godesses of Sun. Svastikas are found in Indian, Celtic and Baltic pagan tribes.

One of the best pieces of evidence of the authenticity of svastika - ancient jewelry found in KernavÄ—'s archeological site, former capital of the former Grand Dutchy of Lithuania in the 13th century.

As you see, Svastika's are not an evil sign. Its original purpose was to worship the pagan gods and godesses of Sun. Hitler stole this emblem and made it a symbol of evil deeds committed by his regime.

Why did I post this topic? I love history and am bored.

What no. It's just an educational post. I hate when people think that Svastika is something evil.

Interesting but nothing surprising since Nazis also use the Celtic Cross.

Last time someone even mentioned Svatiska here was in 2011, I believe that only a few people knows what it is or means.

Been a while since I've seen someone spell it 'svastika'.

The swastika has roots in many different ancient cultures, Greek, Celtic, Mayan, Indian, Mexican...

Everyone knows it because of Groß-Deutschland though, which is 'evil' so naturally this symbol is also 'evil'. Don't see what's so hard to get about that.

Nope, not gonna allow this shit on the forums.

The history is interesting but it's meaning still ties to Nazi Germany. Therefore, I am closing this topic.
