If it's "ancient" and running windows 2000 what makes you think it should run??It looked like it was running Windows 2000 because the thing that let's it run the Windows 7 'theme' was disabled, for some odd reason, though it is Windows 7...
Post specs pls :)
Tried installing/moving gta to a different location other than C/Rockstar Games/San Andreas ?It's on my desktop atm, will try moving it now.

Also, it ran GTA SA fine in 2012.
The unnecessary visuals were more than likely disabled to save on resources of that potato system. Make sure you have the required directx editions installed to be able to even launch a game on the system. It has DirectX 11, same as what my blown PC has.
Try rename GTA SA folder to GTA SA1Still nothing. :neutral2:
Not sure if you understand how to completely reinstall windows from the ground up, but that is the easy answer. Plus it would get rid of all software on the computer and start it from fresh, which in the end will boost the speed.
Get OpenHardWareMonitor to check out which graphic's card the PC has. Then just get the drivers through either AMD or nVidia, depending on what it is.Downloading OpenHardWareMonitor now, I don't see any graphics driver in Device Manager so maybe it doesn't have one installed.
I'm really not sure at this point. If GTA:SA was installed on the PC prior to you getting it out of the attic or something, there's a chance a faulty gta_sa.set in your GTA:SA folder in My Documents may be causing this. I'd try to delete that. It will create a new one once the game is started.
But honestly reinstalling Windows wouldn't be a bad idea if there's nothing of value installed on the PC anyway. It doesn't take that long.
