Dear Sirs,
There seems to be some disagreement of what the usage of /em is actually for.
My understanding that it is used to display environmental aspects and not as an "OOC" which some use it as.Personally I find it as abuse that people just use /em for that reason, as I believe /em is for the reason above. People also then somehow say /em is not roleplay command and stuff like this and that...
I can see how it can be used to support /me, such as /me tackles a person (s/f?) with the response being from the one being tackled as /em suceeded as unexpected or /em failed because <a valid and sensible reason>
An example of correct usage in my understanding;
/em the police motorbike is leaking fuel
People use it always when dealing with police to usually bitch, and this distracts from its intended usage.
I recall in the past that a developer threatened to remove it as it was being used incorrectly (as a substitute for some sort of "OOC" command / to force roleplay.)
Please can we have some clear concise timeless response from a member of the management committee for SAMP as it's clear there is disagreements and confusion.
If possible, to my fellow players; can we await a member of managements response before we go to our usual critical responses to people, situations, groups etc as it really would be good to see some clarification on this.
Kind Regards,
Montague.

Has been said in the past if it was used incorrectly it would be removed, but it's still here even as people still use it for OOC chat..
-
Monte, as Argonath is a community that preaches for freedom - anybody can be anything, really - i believe that every folk in this server has their own interpretation about the usage of some commands. I have seen people using it both for the description of the environment, or to describe the result of an action. I personally do not mind any of them, as i do not think it causes me any hives if people use it that or this way.
I personally believe that restricting this command, which sure has a wide range of options would kind of go against the idea of the developers. It's like restricting /me to a single function - i have even seen people use /me to talk, yeah! In VC:MP, /me was used also to talk for a long time before we had a scripted chat function, and people got used to it. I personally do not mind of anything.
If possible, to my fellow players; can we await a member of managements response before we go to our usual critical responses to people, situations, groups etc as it really would be good to see some clarification on this.
Sorry i didn't seen that, but i feel i'd forget what i wanted to share if i awaited too much.

Would it be that bad if we add an /o(oc) chat?

Would it be that bad if we add an /o(oc) chat?
It would probably help those who are mentally unable to cope ... but yes, this thread is mainly about trying to clarify what /em is for.

Would be good to add it.
-
Most of the people I run into use it just for some ooc chat or to correct grammar mistakes during roleplay.
It's supposed to be used as a third perspective tool.
-
Does it really matter how people use the command? It makes no difference whether they use (( ))), /em, or simply uses /l for "OOC" chat. No idea why you're so concerned about how other people use the chat commands.

because
It's supposed to be used as a third perspective tool.
If a command is there, it should be used correctly, not abused for something else.
People become all bad girly and forget it's a game and start a rant in /em which becomes highly annoying.
-
Just be creative use /em for what you wish for... nothing wrong with that, why do we always have to go by the book?

/em is supposed to be used in a certain way.
Just like /ad is supposed to be used in a certain way.
Just like /m is supposed to be used in a certain way.
When it comes to /em, people tend to forget this and they actually go on to imply it's not for what it's supposed to be for.

They can start a rant in /l also, it wouldn't change anything, at least it somewhat helps separate their roleplay from their OOC bìtchiness. Sure, technically maybe it's not supposed to be used like that but it doesn't really affect anyone. It's really not that huge of a problem.

So what, a few days ago someone from the HQ Staff said that PM is roleplay... we all thought if we wanted to RP with someone we have to call him via phone...
I know people find it easier to label each command for clear usage but thats not the right way to do it...
/em shouldn't be labeled as used only for describing the environment, or answering RP questions...
/em should be used for whatever you wish for aslong as you do not confuse others with it.

I think that if people really get mad that some use /em the wrong way then maybe a OOC cmd should be brought in.
By the way, in no way would this make the server more strict or less, would give people other was of roleplaying and hanging out, since some can't understand when one is talking serious or not in local chat, and some don't like when /em is used for that..
I know this might have been refused in the past, but so was a lots of things, which now became reality, so if the dev team along with HQ would talk about it and come to a consensus about the matter, would be perfect.

Just needed clarification of what /em was.
Someone today was saying /em was not for what it was and was instead for something else.
-
We(Gvardia) and most people we roleplay with, use it for both purposes. Out of roleplay chat, and describing the environment around us. And I see that most of veterans are doing the same.
So I don't see the problem with it, that's Argonath's unique way of usage /em, if other servers use it for describing environment, that's their thing.

Sure lets just throw the uniqueness and authenticity of Argonath and become "another" SA:MP Server...
-
It literally makes no difference wether people use /em for OOC or for third person RP, people know the difference between the two and if you can't tell the difference between what is OOC and RP, then maybe a roleplay server is the wrong server for you.
-
I see lots of people talking about "OOC;IC;Metagaming" even though Argonath does not support such RP terms.
-
OOC = Out of character (no shit). I assume there aren't much groups in Argonath that actually roleplay their characters out realisticly, not like everyone roleplays his character that way, but the server is RPG if that changes anything. There's no such thing as Powergaming/Metagaming in argonath(from experience), alot of people use /em as ooc and for rp circumstances. You could have just added a local ooc chat really..
-
I hate how people use /em not for its intended purpose and actually use it to moan and leave a roleplay situation (ergo refusing roleplay).
-
This whole topic is because someone is offended because a command is being used "incorrectly".
That's just like doing /me kills everyone or /me flies away, it's incorrect usage but it's in no way a violation of server rules or other people's views.
-
In my opinion, /em is whatever you need it to be. Do you use it to describe the environment? Fine! Do you use it to "OOCly" communicate with others? Fine! Do you use it to support your roleplay in another way? Fine!
The true uniqueness of Argonath lies in the fact that we have a very light and liberal interpretation of what roleplay is. Because of that, even multiple incompatible forms of roleplay can exist alongside one another. Where applicable, they can compromise and mix and if they don't want to, then they don't.

This, and no further explanation is needed, leave this topic alone.

the topic can be locked, Rusty made it clear what /em is supposed to be for

Sure lets just throw the uniqueness and authenticity of Argonath and become "another" SA:MP Server...
Adding an out of character chat won't destroy the "uniqueness and authenticity" that Argonath has.
