Developer Diary - New Mini-Missions

Hello Argonathians,

The last 2 mini-missions were a success. Many players who tried them out love 'em. Haven't tried it out yet? Head in-game and experience it yourself! As we inch closer to the release of the highly anticipated Bank Rob, we wanna treat out players to another 2 more similarly themed mini-missions to get players hyped up. Here they are,

Diamond Heist

Businesses are blooming all over Vice City. The jewel stores in the city are stock piling tons of diamonds to sell to their customers. Based on the classic robbery, players will have to rob a jewel store and protect the lead robber while doing so for not 1, not 2 but 5 minutes! After successfully surviving that, they have to sell the diamonds to the dealer at the Old Warehouse, Vice Port. (The place where Lance's brother got killed in the opening cut-scene. Don't know where it is? Go and player Single-player and watch the first cut-scene. :D) How much could you get from this?

Commands: /robjewelstore

Armoured Truck

Bearer bonds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearer_bond). Every criminal wants it. This mini-mission is all about driving skills. Players will have to drive a bullet-proof Securicar parked behind V.A.J Finance, Downtown (The place where you first pick up Candy Suxx. Don't know where it is? Go play Single-player until you buy the Film Studios and play their first mission. :D) and drive it all the way to either 8-Balls Garage, Vice Port for criminals or the back of El Banco Corrupto Grande, Little Havana and unload the goods with up to $500 for cops and $1,000 for criminals. Think it's gonna be an easy ride? Think again.

Commands: /unloadtruck

More mini-missions as well as new scripts will be added to the server in the future. Until then, head in-game and experience it for yourselves.

I expected the armoured truck to be more like a hit on a transport with unkown goods inside, pretty much like Heat and Payday.

VCPD will have a lot of problem thinking about what's their priority. Surviving or killing the truck carrying the goods. Lovely idea. Thanks Fuzzie.

Added commands to the first post to make it more clear how to actually do the minimissions :D

Do you need any ideas for new events, or is scripting them only limited to time constraints?

Any new ideas and suggestions are definitely welcomed and no. There are no specific time as to when new mini-missions/events are released. I just found a way to connect these 2 mini-missions to bank rob. Otherwise, they were developed as two completely separate ideas.

some feedback based on my experiences
1. it would be great if you'd add more variants of the armored truck event because it's kinda weird to have it spawn only in 1 place all the time
2. axxo told me the events happen only if there's 2 cops online. this is somewhat unfair, because it means if you play as cop with your friend and no other players you can earn free money, but if you play as civs/crims alone on the server you can not. either make it so that events are available with no cops too (the competition is still there! the players will race to the truck and stores to be the robber to get the money for themselves) or make a check so there needs to be 2 cops + 2 civs.
3. the jewelry store robbery is horribly unbalanced. you need to stay around jewelry store for 5 mins - this is as much as a bankrob, yet the location is way worse to defend....yet you only get 10% of bankrob's reward. also the way this works - cops don't know who's robbing the store, so you can just step out and pretend you're smoking a cigarette or something....what are they meant to do? suspect you for refusing to leave? the fact that they need to be gone kinda pushes player into deathmatching......if you ask me, rebalance the robbery time into 1 minute or 1 minute 30 seconds, but add auto suspection.

you only get 10% of bankrob's reward
But it happens a lot more frequently than a bankrob.

The rewards of mini missions should be increased a bit IMO.

And no again, rewards from the minimissions are balanced around everything else.

1. it would be great if you'd add more variants of the armored truck event because it's kinda weird to have it spawn only in 1 place all the time

More variants will be added for all if not most of the mini-missions in the near future. *cough*#shiternet*cough*

2. axxo told me the events happen only if there's 2 cops online. this is somewhat unfair, because it means if you play as cop with your friend and no other players you can earn free money, but if you play as civs/crims alone on the server you can not. either make it so that events are available with no cops too (the competition is still there! the players will race to the truck and stores to be the robber to get the money for themselves) or make a check so there needs to be 2 cops + 2 civs.

It actually does work this way. So even if there are 2 cops online but not enough non-cops player, the mini-mission won't happen

3. the jewelry store robbery is horribly unbalanced. you need to stay around jewelry store for 5 mins - this is as much as a bankrob ... rebalance the robbery time into 1 minute or 1 minute 30 seconds

IMO, the lowest I would even go for will be 3 minutes

3. ... yet you only get 10% of bankrob's reward. ...

Mini-missions were never suppose to outshine smuggle and bank rob. It was just an addition to give players something else to do while waiting for bank rob to be done and to keep new players interested in playing on Argonath.

3. ..  cops don't know who's robbing the store, so you can just step out and pretend you're smoking a cigarette or something....what are they meant to do? suspect you for refusing to leave? the fact that they need to be gone kinda pushes player into deathmatching......
3. ... but add auto suspection.

Improvements and changes will be made to all the existing mini-missions to make it more informative.

Well the point of this is why should it be the same time as a bankrob yet only 10% of the reward? make it like 2 minutes or something lol

Minimissions happens every 45 minutes throughout the day. Bankrob happens maybe couple times a week.

We do not want minimissions to be free cash for either criminal or cops nor do we want to make it too easy. If you want easy monies, be garbage collector or trucker.

Yet the odds of a jewelry store robbery happening is also pretty low as there are many mini-missions that can appear. Making one mini-mission have more profit than the other isn't that bad of an idea.

The jewelry store robberies and VAJ Finance truck delivery should pay out a bit more than a washed up crate, purely for the fact there is more to grab (or should be more to grab).

Yes... me and Fuzzie along with Han(RIP) managed to sell jewels from NPM, guess what we got? 900 bucks...
I got about 880 from crate and that took 2 minutes, jewelry took 10

If anything, surely the Jewellery Shop in NPM should pay out the most.

Any possibility for a VCPD themed mini mission?
Like equipment transport or something.

You're complaining about us wanting rebalanced rewards saying those happen often, but how often do wanted people happen? all the time, not just each 45 minutes...does that mean we're gonna nerf cop rewards, because:
criminals rob a jewelry store: let's say theres 5 of them, cops kill all = 2,500$ reward, assuming there was 3 cops thats like 830 dollars for EVERYBODY
crims manage to rob the store, lets assume theres only 3 of them and they get 1000$: 333 dollars for one criminal.....thats just funny, at least make it so that it pays out 500-600 only but to EVERY robber and not just one...

I'm not trying to diss your work here Fuzz by the way, I was just frustrated because often doing those missions is more trouble than it's worth

btw my idea for more missions: 'exotic exports'....... grab the fast export car that spawned (some cheetah, infernus etc) and get it on that big ship in the docks (for criminals) or get it to sunshine autos (cops)....high speed chases are always fun

The rewards generated by scripts should always be proportional to the difficulty of the job. The challenge here is, that the difficulty of illegal jobs is purely dependent on the quantity and quality of cops online.

How about we work the scripts to calculate the rewards depending on number of ranked officers online?
Weight of cops: ARPD Officer 1, VCPD Officer 2, SWAT 3, FBI 3
Reward = Some value x Sum of the weight of all cops online.
