Title: Police Duty Bug
Post by: punkemo on January 07, 2008, 07:40:43 pm
I'd like to state to other players on Argonath that their maybe a bug around going on and off duty as a policeman. I was going on and off duty quite alot, i believe went on and off duty 4-5 times, I was put on the wanted list for the first time, i surrendered, i noticed in my inventory i had the standard police weapons, a Pistol, a shotgun and a baton. I was arrested and still had the weapons. I left the police station and almost immediatly frozen, then kicked for using a script to access police weaponary. The admin who kicked me was Young_Buck, he PM'ed me as soon as i logged back in, saying i had been kicked for abusing the scripts. I would like to ask anyone if they have had this problem or been kicked for this problem.

Punkemo. Im the one who kicked you. You was at LSPD a normal guy with a normal police weapons and i saw you shooting with you guns. Some people is doing it only for getting weapons FREE instead of buying their own. But if i took wrong of you im truely sorry.

since when is that a glitch? And even if it was, it doesn't give you any advantage, the most it sets you to the same level.

It is a glitch because the script is meant to clear you of all your weapons when you get off duty but for some reason this does not happen. It does give you an advantage as your get FREE weapons as civilian.

i understand that people dont wanna buy guns cos of all the crashes, but this is still bug abusing.

People don't want to pay for guns because :
It cost too much of money
They lose them too often
They are not able to save them at hotel/house

So they just go on/off duty ... Which is a glitch .. Which is not allowed to use by server rule. So the developpers will probably correct this very soon, don't worry, because it can create DM and since it's a RP server, it don't fit well and also because it is not realistic and such. Don't worry, sooner or later, this thing will disappear in some way.

For now, admins are allowed to take measures since it's against the rules ...

In an RP server.. stealing weapon from police should get you wanted.. not kicked

If it was simply walk into police car, steal shotgun and go then yes suspect but the problem is people are abusing a glitch with /duty to get the weapons which is against the rules.

Acutaly, you can go on and off duty many times in row and you'll have a pretty amount of bullets .... So then you can dm ... and a deagle is powerful enough to blow the head off of someone

ARPD have the Uzi advantage?
It would be good to have a way Civilians can get there hold of some cheap weapons, since I dont like to pay 500$ for the 9mm too much man

The price of guns was acceptable in 0.2.1 because we could expect to keep them for more than 10 minutes. Frankly, I think that the best solution is to create a Script where upon buying a gun, the Server "knows" you bought it, and when you die, the Server "knows" to take it away. Leaving the Server (either the Disconnect 0 denominator, Leave 1 denominator, or Kick/Ban 2 denominator) should not be a trigger to remove weaponry, instead it should save what ammo you have left on each. Upon relogging, you should be issued with whatever weapons you left with. This would also solve the problem of Police relogging with no weapons after a crash.

This way, a $750 odd Deagle could actually last 50 bullets. This doesn't give an advantage to Criminals, by the way, because once you leave you are no longer wanted anyway..  :)

Saving weapons, is not like saving money, its z0mfg hard

While I completely agree with you Panda, I assume the reason we don't keep our weapons when we crash is because it is either not possible or too difficult to implement with the current system or it creates a secondary effect that is more of a problem than losing weapons.

But when it comes to things like this I know less than nothing so for the sake of clarity, can someone explain why it is that we do not keep our weapons when we crash.

Many thanks

Elrond

I will research the possibility of saving Weapons for myself in Pawno. Though if Hayden is right maybe it is hard.

Equally, I suppose such a feature could be abused in some way or another.
For example: a big DM Gang gather weapons together (10+ people) and then they leave the server all in one place and one guy stays there. He calls someone else to come "talk" (or, you know, something) and then boom! You're surrounded by Bullets as the rest simultaneously login and kill you.

It could however be argued that the above situation contains blatant log evidence, and they could be punished. I think designwise, it is a good thing. Perhaps the reason is Script based.

great idea, 9mm And M4 for 500 and 5000, i dont even have 400 so, im gonna admit here (dunno why) but i did use the glitch, cause i was poor and there was a bounty on my head, so for PROTECTION i used the glitch, the hunters saw me armed and left and i survived, yeh!

but i dont anymore, cause i was warned by hyper, but unfortunately almost 2/3 of the servers regulars use (or how u call abuse) that glitch, because it is so hard to make money!!  :(

Due to the high frequency of crashes, if this could be made, the keeping old weapons would be good imo and will solve people losing a lot of money from buying guns and then crashing and it will also reduce the likeliness of people abusing free weapons from /duty. Also it would be good because it is very annoying when you are in a fight or chasing someone (police pursuit) and then you crash so you have to disengage and go all the way back to PD (or ammunation) to get guns and proper uniform. But if we have this, can we also fix it so if you keep exact the same skin after crash. If you crash as an Officer, FBI or other special police class, you come back as a Cadet.

9mm And M4 for 500 and 5000

Actually, the M4 is 3000 (100 bullets) and the AK47 is 2000 (200 bullets)..

So you have to choose if you want an American weapon or a Russian weapon.. :)

Uhm guys ... im not a developer or something , but Panda is really write.I have my own script and  now im trying to make possible (Pawno) to get authorization for using guns (i mean an 2+ admin allows u to have weapons ... just like the passport and the drivers licence) Thats a very good way to stop the DM (especially of the new players who dont know its a RPG server and they DM a lot).Infact this is not so hard (i think) You have a permission , you use a weapon, you dont have a permission , u dont use a weapon(its the same with drivers licence, you have it,you own a car,you dont have it,you touch the banana ) So if i someway manage to do that i will immediately send the scripts to Gandalf or Aragorn or someone of the Developers  :)

Thats so right.
Anyway, no admin would give me a weapon license, I'm a total idiot, and very dangerous with weapons.
