Hello guys, so I'm going to university soon and I want to buy a new laptop.
Budget: $850
RAM: At least 8gb or 4gb upgradable
Can handle atleast GTA and FIFA smoothly.
Screen size: 15" because I think that 17" is hugee(Yes or no?)
Currently eyeing an ASUS with GT 940M. Do you guys think GT940M is adequate for medium gaming?
Please help me thank you :jackson:

Check how much the Y700 costs where you live, I bought it a month ago and I have to say it is one of the best devices I've ever owned.

It's in range of my budget but from what I've heard the hinges sucks
EDIT: Just checked, it is a tard $150 over budget...

Assuming this is USD?

Something like these?
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-15-6-Inch-Quad-Core-i5-6300HQ-Processor/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462790059&sr=8-2

GT940M isn't bad, something with a GTX950M or above is better :)

Add $10 and;

Seeing that both of them are almost identical, does the processor make a huge difference?

The problem is I'm not from USA and that laptop is not available in my country :(

Depends on the game really, GTA IV is fairly CPU dependent. They're both capable machines though.
Purely on spec, the Dell is better, the CPU and GPU are both better than the ASUS. I don't know what the model lines are like though, but purely on spec, yep, the Dell :)
They both have SSDs, so boot up and general computing experience should be excellent as well.

Ah shit sorry, I just used the link Joe posted and searched for it!

Well that also renders my suggestions useless too
Where you from?

Malaysia :/ but the laptop you've suggested is available here at least :D

If you can afford the Asus Julio suggested it would be fine. Fair enough for GTA and Fifa.

Hmm guys one question, does VRAM makes any difference? because I found one with GTX950M 2GB and the other is GTX950M 4GB with like $30 price difference. Does it makes any significant change?
-
It does make a difference... but because the GTX950M is a mid-level card, you'll probably find that as soon as you get anywhere close to your game using 4GB graphics memory, the GTX950M won't be able to cope with it. 2GB is probably fine.
But yeah, my "official" recommendation would be the Dell I posted:
- Within budget
- This particular i5 is better than the i7 in the ASUS I posted
- GTX960M is better than the GTX950M (and has 4GB virtual memory...)
- 256GB SSD
- 8GB RAM
-
Depends on the games you tend to play I suppose. I got one laptop with 2 and certain games kills it while my other one with 16 runs them smoothly

Yeah I think that it is a good choice but the only retard thing about the laptop is the keyboard layout and some of it in my country doesn't come with OS. Guess I'll be opting for the DELL or ASUS GL552(GTX 960M 2gb) which came right under my budget after discounts.

Guys, what is CPU speed? The 2.5Ghz etc. Do they really matter or make significant change?

It's impossible to buy purely on speed nowadays unfortunately, for example, an old Pentium 4 chip may run at 3.0GHz, but a modern i3 clocked slower would run absolutely rings round it.
I tend to use the following site for reference:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
Any benchmark above 3500 is relatively good, most modern i5 laptop chips do now come above this. You'd expect a decent gaming chip to clock in at anything above 5000 by my reckoning.
