I recommend NOD32, it requires less from your PC and protects very well (I sell them a lot, especially for laptops). I use AVG Free myself because it's free :)

And if you watch out with visiting some sites, downloading from P2P networks and e-mail attachements you won't have much problems.

My Norton runs fine....

I don't see why everyone rags it so much...

Norton runs great if...
1) you do not touch your PC the first 15 minutes after starting
2) you will nver try to de-install even a part of it.

But hey I am a Norton hater since the MS-DOS days when there was not a lot of internet but he produced handy tools that did the same as the ones delivered with MS-DOS.  :D

If you want a free anti-virus, try Avast or Comodo. Both have pretty good reputations, and are not yet big enough to attract anti-anti-virus.

My computer starts like a dream, I have to wait barely any time at all for it to start up

BTW. I have 4GB RAM

Yes AVG is not bad ... but i was with it for a year , my computer started running slower,i opened it and checked things out,and i found everything is O.K.Then i decided to search for viruses...AVG didnt found nothing , then i got ESET NOD32 Smart security and it found 17 viruses and 2 worms  :( :( From then my antivirus program is NOD (if u have a worm use Stinger, its the best, but only for worms)!  :)

As long you don't use F-secure or Norton then feel free to choose.

F-secure: Haves a really slow startup. Also eats your ram. Atleast it does on school laptops.
Norton: As Gandalf said.

I also agree with gandalf on the norton stuff he said

Avira is very good.It is free, very easy to use, updates every 2-3 days.It has a build-in plugin which is scanning downloaded files from the internet. And in my opinion is the best free AV i ever used.
As a firewall im using Comodo :D.Quite good, free and easy to use :D

It's the future, self terminate capable programs. It's like those robots, that when find errors, they engage self termination processes.

Thats actually one point in favor of kaspersky, that way it will never get infected allowing all virus to get in your pc without you knowing.

Title: Re: What antivirus can you recommend?

yeah Kaspersky is a corrupt AV... i had AVG and Kaspersky running at the same time... AVG detected Kaspersky was a trojan... so i ignored it... i downloaded the latest virus and AVG detected it first... then Kaspersky started detecting it a few weeks later  :conf:

so Kaspersky is a thumbs down...

NOD32 detects things first though :)

Norton 360

You pay a bit, but u get what u pay for

about Norton being slow

My comp is really fast loadup,
and i havent had a virus

Sometimes the best things in life are free. but not AVG

Cant even play Steam games without turning it off.
Which IS TEH GAY,
Norton is ftw

If you need something that is free i recommend Ad-Aware, well it doesnt warn when youre open virus things, but it removes every virus i have had. You just start it and it searches for viruses :)
9/10 bcz design is nice but it doesnt warn when you open viruses -_-

I'm locking for an AV compatible with Vista, since I fucked all my kaspersky serials and not even bought ones work.
NORTON sucks cause I lose half inet speed.

So I want an AV that doesn't use resources, preferable, that doesn't even do shit w/o me telling to, and passive anti-spyware.

So, what do you recommend?

Mcafee has a brillant firewall but is crap against virus. It just gives up and says its deleted 1 minute later its back.
Norton is good if you used to easy interface applications such as paint. Which does its job and you expect to close it after a few uses.
AVG is good if you dont go on any websites or dont download anything.
Personally i believe AVAST is the best as this has a great interface, Good warning system and deletes the actual virus.
And for firewall I just leave that to my Bt HomeHub. Its worked so good so far.

Haldir

No, you didn't get it? I don't want any firewall, believe it or not, Vista firewall works good and doesn't take net speed.

And I want the one that takes less recourses.

Basically, I want a AV capable of making an good search for virus, but no active security. For VISTA.

Is it just me or can you actually configure most of AV software to be more or less passive?

Apparently, not Norton, the stupid thing just ketp stealing 70% on my net speed.

Do you have a Norton Anti-Virus or Norton Internet Security version? because the AV one didn't steal my connection at all (when i had it), but it was eating up my pc resources (weak pc so i feel the lag)

Inet security, it came with firewall(which must be the reason).
It's the only non default firewall for Vista ATM.
