Title: /speed suggestion
Post by: Norrage on June 06, 2016, 08:52:03 pm
Currently you have to type /speed <ID>. Can't this be changed to the same system (near) players see with /l or /s? You flick your radar gun 'on' and it will detect any speed that any car infront of you has. Currently it is impossible to type /speed <ID> (short time you see the ID), and start chasing.

I hope I am clear enough. If not, ask me to elaborate please.

Are keybinds permitted on the IV:MP server?

Could be a solution if so!

Still the same issue with seeing the ID for only 2 seconds if the player is driving the maximum speed.

The idea is great !!
but i have a small edit on it.
to turn /radar on
and if any car passed in your range with speed 80+  it will appear on your screen. "[Player][ID] speed is [speed]"

Yeah that could work.

/radar on and /radar off, automaticly shows you the speed of someone speeding above 80 km/h indeed!

Sounds a terrific idea, I support it!

Not a bad idea, though, might be abused.
In my opinion, it should be used only when parked, If it's possible.

I just need to bump this because we are really lacking this to catch more and more speeders ingame.

I support that. But i want to note we may not pull over player with 82km/h. Freecops or new cops will automaticly turn up ans start chasing

This suggestion sound like you are lazy to type in /speed. You need a feature like this to catch speeders ingame? There is no speed ingame that prevents you from using /speed id in a timely manner. I admit that the suggestion sounds nice and could make a nice addition, I just think your reasons for needing this feature are not legit.

If a law enforcer wants to catch speeders and fine them without having the ability to map chase, it is impossible to drive, type speed, and screenshot it all with him on the camera. Note that you need to follow the vehicle with the mouse, type /speed and start driving to follow him and stop him.

If this does not sound legit to you, I would like to invite you doing the same ingame; have the speeder on camera, with his /speed in the chat before his name dissapears from the screen.

You're overburdening yourself with headaching protocols. You don't need to screenshot the speed with the suspect on screen. A police officer can ticket someone with himself as witness as proof.

If a speeder drove past you without you having the chance to /speed him, you're going to have a hard time catching him. Put a description of the vehicle out to the police radio. You know that he drove faster then 80 or 100 or 120 and base your ticket on that gut feeling. If the speeder doesn't agree, then we will see him in court.

A ranked cop witness holds more value in court because they have knowledge and experience about those things.

Yes, and if the officer lied and said that the civilian was speeding with 145km/h?  ;)

Then the civilian can take it to court. It's not a system where the civilian gets to decide if he should be ticketed or not

What if the civilian lied and the officer have no proof?

A ranked officer has gone through training so his word will weigh more in court. The civilian will have to provide proof or a reasonable story to proof his innocence.

The idea might be both good and bad. But, it is hard enough to know if a player is just cop baiting or not. But, maybe in some situations, intuition is better than /speed ID. But, I think we are complicating the issue too much at this time.

A patrol partner will solve the problem I think. One will drive the car and other will take care of the radar (/speed) gun stuff and SS and anything else required.

I agree with that. But an addition of such script would also help, since not everyone's reaction is that fast to catch up someone's ID, who's passing by you in a high speed (100+km/h), while you are parked.

I think it's the best suggestion?
