You would need to contact your Internet Service Provider and pay couple of bucks to get your upload and download speed increased (with a new contract, I guess).

Other than that, you can't do anything else honestly unless you use wi-fi, then you can get a more stable connection using a ethernet LAN cable.

If your current speed is what ISP has promised you or slightly lower than it (I have 100Mbps and am getting 90-98 Mbps), then the only way to increase it, is by contacting your ISP and getting a faster connection.

If you get lower speeds, then possible reasons are:
* Wi-Fi connection being a bottleneck (whether due to distance or many networks or just unstable connection)
* Other devices using up bandwidth
* Something in your PC using up bandwidth

If all of these are not the case, then one option is damaged or old cables. Just recently my neighbour was having issues with getting a stable connection, apparently the cable coming to the house was the culprit - old and badly placed.

Unlike you guys, I am stuck paying for a 24mbps internet pack, whilst only able to achieve 4mbps. Pre-historic phone line installations from ISP are nothing tha you can deal with. I am just left with hopes of my area's network upgrade to new DSLN's in order to get fiber optic - VDSL lines.. If you have the same case as mine, then you can pretty much do nothing. (Except from buying a powerful WiFi Dongle and using some neighbors better line.)

If you're using wireless, I'd suggest you go wired. By that I mean run a Ethernet cable from your router/modem and plug it directly into your LAN port on your computer's motherboard or NIC.

With that you will probably get the fastest possible your ISP is giving you. If you're still not happy with the speed after using a wired connection, the only thing you can do as previously mentioned is to call your ISP and pay them more money for a better plan.

*Note/story - Even if you don't have extra money to give them - still give them a call. I don't know if ISPs do or can do this in Europe, but I was once on DSL at my old house with speeds up to only 1mbps. I eventually got fed up after a couple of years and called them up, only for them to then tell me that I was on an older, more expensive plan, and that I could upgrade to 6mbps for LESS than what I paid. So I did it and the speed was a bit faster, but it was DSL, so I had to deal with it until I moved to where I am now where there is an actual cable provider.

Cable aka DOCSIS based ISPs are on the very expensive side, because they are typically monopolies (atleast here in capitalist USA), but if you want a reliable and fast connection, go with cable if you can, but be prepared to pay for it.
