Hello Argonath VC:MP Community,
The one million dollars question: What is the point of having cab drivers?
That was the question i first asked when i logged into this server.
The answer was: Maybe someone will roleplay.
My answer was: Seems Legit. 1% role play like is told in the book, 59% don't role play at all, 30% do some role play and the other 10% are the admins.
The point is, anyone can get a car in 2 minutes why would they pay to get somewhere? The funny thing is that most of them don't even know where to go.
What about instructing the players to buy cars?
*I know whats your thinking*
But to instruct them how to buy cars you would have to instruct them how to get some money, and you know the general community per-capita in Argonath and in the game in general are kids from 9 to 14 years old from Pakistan, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, they don't want instruction, they want simplicity and the first thing someone do when they enter in a server is try to get a car and if they see they can't get a car they just do /q and never get back.
Anyway, that would increase the amount of bought cars and the amount of cab drivers.
Cheers,

How does instructing players to buy a car increase cab driver or the roleplay that comes with it?

How does instructing players to buy a car increase cab driver or the roleplay that comes with it?
Good point, let me try to explain.
First that general idea I had about the "buying car" was like I said general, because I don't really have a solution to that problem but let me explain what could happen if it was implemented.
If they can't get a car they would have to call a taxi, a message should appear on the players screen right when they leave the Escobar Internation Aeroport mentioning the option /taxi.
Now lets assume that you buy a car, doesn't even need to be cheap, how much time do you think a car goes on without damage and explode? Well he have to options, Pay 'n' Spray before that happens or call a taxi after he does so he can go get it back where he spawns.
But I understand that would create a problem with the server, to many cars and he would probably get slow.
But my point is, cab drivers are really irrelevant in the server, no one calls a cab because they can get a car very fast and change car when his about to get destroyed.
Can also be reduced the amount of cars in the server, just in parking lots for example, don't know.

I still don't understand your meaning. Even if we tell a player to buy a car, what's to stop him from using state cars that are around or steal other people's cars?
This is GTA after all, you're basically meant to steal cars :D

I understood the VC:MP Argonath Crew want this server balanced, so this thread I just made have no relevance.
Given to the size of the map having cab drivers is not so necessary like it is in SA:MP, and is more common/simple for you just to get a car on the side walk and drive it to where you want without any problems, however in my opinion that's a leak that should be thought on.
Okay, you say this is Grand Theft Auto, and that makes a lot of sense... steal cars is trivial but there is any rule that allows cops to arrest citizens that stole a car? Might be a good idea for example, don't know. Of course that would bring a unbalanced problem, because it would almost eliminate civilians, everyone would be criminal because they stole a car.
The idea of getting a car in such a simple way don't fit in my brain, what is the point of buying a car if I can just get one in the side walk?
You might think I'm being to rigorous and think the next thing I will talk about is the red lights, but this is just a opinion, nothing more then that. I knew this topic was almost non-sense, I just wanted to knew opinions about how easy was to get a vehicle.

It has always been this way and we do not want to overly complicate things.
Car theft can be reported to the police by the owner of the vehicle, but state vehicles are legit free-to-use for everyone, this is so there's always a car for someone to use without the chances of getting ownt by the police.

Being a cab driver can be fun. The script makes things simple too.
Just take a taxi and look for "fares" instead of waiting for people to call.
Find someone without a car and offer them a ride to wherever they want to go.
You'd be surprised how many would actually take up your offer if you managed to be in the right place at the right time.
If someone enters your cab as a passenger, your meter will start ticking and you'll earn a dollar for every second you drive with him as passenger.
This means you can't be scammed in any way, and makes your job easier (no need to negotiate prices) but you could ask for tips too!
Good luck and most importantly, have fun RPing!

I have seen many pepl calling taxi but no taxi drivers are there then, or any new player with $0 climbs taxi and refuses to pay (cut he can't ) then you will be getting cops on his ass lol.
And BTW people prefer to use the infinite run instead of taxi if they won't find a car.
