About roleplay
A roleplaying game is a game in which the players assume the roles of characters and create stories. Players determine the actions of their characters based on their characterisation and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely, their choices shape the direction and outcome of the whole roleplay game.
There are a couple of commands you can use when roleplaying:
- /me [text] - This is used for actions that your character is doing at this moment (example: /me scratches his head).
- /em [text] - This is used to describe/ask out of character stuff (example: /me kicks the car, /em would the car get damaged?).
- /say [text] - This is used for normal speaking from character to character.
- /s [text] - This is used for shouting from character to character. An exclemation symbol ('!') will be added at the end. Cops use this alot to shout to criminals.
- /w [text] - This is used for whispering from character to character.
- /chatmode local - This is used to set default chatmode to local, so you don't have to type /say all the time.
- /dice - If both parties have a chance of winning, /dice may come in handy. The person who throws the highest, wins the roleplay scene (example: /me hits him on his head, /me avoids. highest /dice wins).
Note that a couple of roleplay rules apply to the server. You may not:
- Metagame - using external powers to involve with the game, such as /pm to call for backup or follow a 'blip' on the radar in a RP scene.
- Powergame - use superpowers to win every roleplay, such as continue running when a police officer roleplayed shooting you.
- Refuse/avoid roleplay - ignore any roleplay a player starts, want to go offline or go away from keyboard? Announce in public chat or PM the player about it.
- Use unrealistic actions - in a roleplay you cannot pull an automatic weapon out of your pocket, so roleplay grabbing one from your car for example.
- Use out of character chats - use /pm or public chat for roleplay purposes. This is a grey area since calling players from out of the game is allowed.
- Force roleplay - give other players a chance to respond, this is the same as powergaming (example: /me ties the person so they cannot go anywhere).
- Use out of character chats - use /pm or public chat for roleplay purposes. This is a grey area since calling players from out of the game is allowed.
Roleplay is as free as you can imagine. Want to roleplay a tree? Go for it. Maybe a prisoner? Sure. Just make sure the surroundings fit the roleplay you are working on and make sure other people understand it too. If you want to stick to building just your character, then you should act like that. No one will take you for serious if your interest is jumping all over the place. If you are switching from one role to other (cop & criminal), then you are falling under the line of a 'casual roleplayer'. Say for that example of criminal/copper, you are a player with criminal affiliation, not the badass gang member.
Whatever you roleplay, remember to have fun. Freely roaming around can be fun for just some time, after which it will become just a waste of time. Yes, waste of time in game, can it get lower than that?
Keeping it friendly
Note that administators are just normal players, with a couple of commands to help and keep the environment on the server friendly. They don't wear the title for fun. It carries a lot of responsibility, maturity, integrity as indifference. Wan't to make their job a little easier? Read about the following. Note that if you catch a rulebreaker ingame, take screenshots / videos and PM to any administrator. If you know the time and date, let them know aswell.
- Advertising
If you are registering for the sole purpose of advertising your server, you might consider it again, as it is a waste space in our ban database. Posting an IP leads to a permanent ban.[/li
- Flaming and insulting
Here, our dear Wikipedia will give us the basic picture:
"Flaming (also known as bashing) is hostile and insulting interaction between internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board..."
- Spamming
A player who is spamming obviously has some problems or likes to be a trouble. That doesn't not allow mini-modders to jump on him with "OMG stop spamming". You talk to him, yes, you use normal language in PM to ask him why he's spamming. An admin can also do this and its preferable that administration member does ask the player because we can depict him what will happen if he continues. One thing I hate is spammers who say they were boring at the time and they didn't know the seriousness of the situation.
- Flooding
Repeating the same sentence over and over again is called flooding. Players tend to warn someone for spamming if he double posted his reply. Why? Check the players ping. Maybe he is experiencing issues with internet, and has chat lag or similar connection issues. You do not just on a player if he writes the same message twice. Three times or more is flooding. If a newcomer asks for a command or something and no one answers, he'll tend to ask it more then once or use PM. A player can also feel that he is not seen, so he floods. Be kind to him!
- Script abuse
Say for example you are able to enter a car you are not supposed to enter. Report immediatly! If you are caught abusing the scripts, a ban may happen.
- Foreign languages
Foreign languages are not forbidden on our server. However, they are forbidden in public chat. Beware, some administrators are polyglots and know many languages. Do not use this rule to flame or insult other. It will be dealt with swiftly and the perpetrator will receive a harsh punishment.
- Incorrect /report usage
"OMG READ MY REPORT" and "/report /report /report /report" are things administrators do not like. You can see if an administrator handles your report so act like it.
- Trolling
A troll is someone who talks rubbish, or plays the game to provoke other players. They are probably stressed or gone crazy of some game/life aspects. Best explanation I can give you is: Never say "Trolls were once nice people" because they are nice now, they just don't have that "niceness" surfaced out and we need to help them regain it. Best treatment against trolls is IGNORING. They will go from one victim to another, just like a parasite and yet many players claim they are here to escape from IRL. Yes, you are here to evade your RL situation but why can't you manage a troll and let him drive you around. Change the rhythm! Take the initiative! Beat him at his own game! Ignore him, he will just skip towards and if he sees his attempts are futile he'll just stay/go away or stop trolling as he wouldn't see it fun.
I'm not saying that coming to you and shouting: FUCK YOU MIHAIL, YOU ARE A SLUT is acceptable or "entertaining" on a roleplay server. What i'm saying is that if you know that you are in a roleplay situation where things are getting a bit difficult for the CHARACTERS (e.g. kidnapper against the victim) and i'm swearing and using an offensive slang (which i repeat, it is only meant in RP) you can't really pretend to report me and get away with the roleplay, that's really poor, perhaps you could let me know first through PM about it.
I think that being too much strict on what words are allowed and which not won't do any good thing, right now every guy you try to interact with, would report you for calling him an idiot in roleplay (e.g. two cars bump into each other, one of the drivers gets upset and the other one gets offended as soon he says it, because the rules say you can't call someone an idiot unless he approves it) if that roleplay puts him in a position where he is "losing" or is tied with some actions. Let me be clear about it, i do not like direct usage of swearing if there isn't a real reason for it but i also disapprove people who simply report you for being offensive in roleplay when:
1. You weren't aware that the guy was so sensible before talking to him;
2. The guy who feels in danger reports you instead of talking back with good manners and letting you know that they did not like that, in that case i could even avoid giving more "intense" to my character and switch back to a good samaritan;
3. The other guy doesn't attempt to solve it in a roleplay way.
What i'm trying to say is that this thing is a bit pointless (in some cases) in the world we're living today, this ain't no damn 500 before Christ, you're on the net, you see those words everyday, it's about how you use them and in which contexts that should be verified. If i say "oh shit, the cops" as mistake on the main chat (/cb fails mostly) i would bet that at least 3 guys would yell at me saying "Please don't swear, read /rules blablabla...wannabemod random warning).
Jeez guys, take it easy with the strictness on these words, let people have fun, you just make them run away with their knowledge which could be really useful to teach newbies (i'm talking about ROLEPLAY terms and other stuff before y'all jump to conclusions like: omg he feels superior cuz he is a regular!11!).
Probably this will sound boring for most of you but like always i want to say my opinion and this is it. Stressing too much those who go out of boundaries in rp brings nothing good since most of people use it as an excuse to avoid roleplay...which once was enforced more than now..
You can put those forcing roleplay examples in a spoiler =)
plz sir stop saying bad words :hah:
