Title: RPG 3.2!
Post by: Fuzzie on February 11, 2017, 04:16:32 pm
Hello Argonathians,

Two weeks ago, we (finally) updated the scripts to version 3.1. Today, we have updated the scripts to version 3.2! Let's check out the prominent changes in Update 3.2.

Court Jail

The amount of court cases due to raids have increased. To help with the jailing process which was very tedious before, a new script called "Court Jail" was made. The command, /courtjail, can only be used by high ranking FBI officers. The big cell is now permanently closed. As for how /courtjail works, get raided and you'll find out.  ;)

Suiciding

Suiciding in real life is bad. Suiciding in Argonath RPG VC:MP is also bad ... very bad. The hardcoded /kill command has been disabled and replaced with a more controllable, /suicide command. How does /suicide differ from /kill? For starters, you can only use it once very 2 minutes to prevent "Farthest Spawn Point" abuse. In addition to that, /suicide is also disabled for a player under several situations. Those situations are when the player is a smuggler, in a heist team, a wanted criminal, and a jailed or court jailed suspect.

Join Messages

The join messages were quite annoying, we agree. That is why we decided to tone down all the unnecessary join messages. Say goodbye to the grey "Player has joined the server." messages, and "GuestX is now known as Player" name changes. With the removal of the name changes messages, players whose name is encapsulated in square brackets will now represent players who are not logged in.

Explosives

Due to a recent increase in car bombings, car bombs will now use 3 explosives as oppose to 1. Explosives can now also be used by criminals to blow up the lock of a private property for 2 explosives using the command /breaklock (which is also available for cops without the need for explosives).

Automated /me messages

To make it easier for other players within a roleplay scenario to know what other players are doing, we've added automated /me messages to several other scripts. Those scripts are car smuggling, ogra selling, mini missions, locking and unlocking properties, and criminals and cops breaking locks.

Mini Mission

Previously, criminals couldn't sell or unload when there are cops nearby. Due to the addition of loss of cash on death, we now believe that there is no reason for this restriction to exist. Now, criminals can sell the goods or unload the truck even if cops are nearby.

Custom skins and vehicles

Custom skins? Yes, custom skins! Cloth store owners, you now have 8 new IDs you can add to your businesses. The IDs are 200 to 207. What skins are they? Head in-game and discover it for yourself! Want a little tease? Some of these skins have different animations than their regular counterparts. VCPD officers also get new skins as well as a separate menu section for their skins.

Cops also have access to 2 new vehicle. A faster police cruiser (which I guess Kessu will add) and a police bike called the Police HPV-1000. There is also another not obtainable car, for now at least. The Diablo Stallion. Do be on the lookout for this rare car as it may just be yours one day.

Revised Pizza Job

Wait? Revised pizza job? Yes, revised pizza job but hold your horses. It hasn't arrived yet. More details about this will be revealed in an upcoming Developer's Diary.

Before I end this update, I would like to apologise for the maintenance that went over it's 10 minute approximate time (2+ hours to be exact). I hope you enjoy the new features and bug fixes that this update brings. Have a great day ahead.

Some good and some bad implementations imo. Glad to see work is being done either way, though.

Great update - except for suicide, which IMO will be used to get rid of your weapons when on a yacht as a cop with no way out :P

I am pretty sure that if players misuse the script they'll get punished accordingly.

The first 4 changes are much horrible, except for the one that's if ya'll get raided, ya'll find whoever did it.

^ this and /suicide is a pretty new addition to the server. While we have been wanting to disable /kill for a long time, we never really know how until the release of 3.2. Like every other thing on the server, when we find out what we can do with /suicide to prevent abuses and what not, we'll be adding those to the server too.

What are you going to do about the server crashing? I think server stability is of great importance.

We're fixing it as fast as we can figure out what's causing it.

If there are major defects in 3.1, in which there were, the wrong thing thing to do is continue to commit further changes on top and progress to 3.2. You just make it harder to figure out whats broken.

The crashes were happening before 3.1 so that wasn't the culprit.

We already have a pretty good idea on what's causing these crashes and are working as fast as we can to fix them.

The two most frequent causes of server crashes have been patched up. Server stability should noticeably improve from here on out.

If there are major defects in 3.1, in which there were, the wrong thing thing to do is continue to commit further changes on top and progress to 3.2. You just make it harder to figure out whats broken.

3.1 was done scripted by the end of July and was up on the test server for testing by August. I've been asking you guys to test the shit for months. Had you guys actually did any proper testing within the 5-6 months it took for 3.1 to be finally released, the bugs and crashes would have been ironed out but no. All you keep doing is adding more and more and more and more shit to 3.1 when I already wanted it to be released so there won't be one massive update that is hard to manage but rather multiple smaller updates that can be managed.

Not to forget the suggestions that I made but were ignored. The revised Pizza job will come soon. An idea which I suggested back in September 2016 but I couldn't get around to scripting it because I didn't want to add more to the "untested and ignored" update that is Update 3.1. Update 3.2 made the server more manageable, fixed more bugs, as well as added more additions to the server to make up for the 5 months of drought of updates.

The causes of the crashes were cause by scripts there were present since day 1 and scripts that were introduced in 3.1 and I will take full responsibility of all of it regardless if I've scripted it or not.
