Whenever I alt+tab while logged in SA-MP I only get a black screen. CTRL+ALT+DEL does not work and the only way to get rid of it is to alt+tab back into the game.
This doesn't happen in single-player.
What I have:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
GTA:SA 1.0 inside a folder inside the Desktop
SilentPatch so San Andreas doesn't suck
A symlink of the game's original executable so that this problem does not manifest in single-player as described in this tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGURHS1iAoU)
SA-MP running as admin
I really don't want to use ENB series just to fix this problem.
Any ideas?

try pressing esc while it's black or get another gtasa exe

Atleast don't post piracy links here

Black screen in the game or desktop? Try some of these:
- Remove any available graphics & steam fix mods
- Set Program Compatibility to Windows 7 and Run as Administrator
- Removing sa-mp.cfg in "My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\SAMP" directory
- Reinstall SA-MP
- Still not working? Revert all the options back to normal

Have you tried setting the game quality to low and low down the resolution?
-
I got amd graphics, I esced and its totally blacked.
My fix was easy:
Enabled Virtual super resolution . In amd app.
How it fixed etc, idk but it works.
I'm even running samp in 2560x1440 :D

W10 issue
Dude ain't running it on his windows xp though :rage:
-
Do you have any compatibility mode for gta_sa.exe and samp?
-
Try getting mousefix.asi (http://hotmist.ddo.jp/plugin/mousefix/) and place it on the main directory of the game, it might fix your issue as it did for me when i had the same problem and have been using it since.
You will need an ASI Loader plugin first but I assume you already do since you mentioned SilentPatch., just stating for others who might have simiral issues and want to give this a try too.

This occurs in Windows 10 due to windows trying to be smart (And failing miserably)
The trick here is to rename your gta_sa.exe file to something else (I use exec.exe). Then create a symbolic link (google how to do that) from gta_sa.exe to exec.exe.

I'm afraid none of your suggestions worked, but another thing did: I set SAMP's resolution to 1360x768 (my native res is 1366x768) and now I can tab in and out of SAMP without a hitch.
I don't mind having 3 pixel wide black columns on each side of the screen so this will do for now. Thanks for your suggestions.

Did you try Exterminator's suggestion? It's the widely accepted fix for it. My issues were gone after doing it.

As I've said since the start of this thread, that didn't fix the problem for SAMP. It works wonders for single-player, though.
The only thing that I failed to describe on op is that I am running samp.exe on Windows 98/ME compatibility. If I don't, it constantly crashes when it finishes to load.

Install ENB. You can disable all of the effects in it. Just having ENB inject into your game is enough to fix it. You should also disable all compatibility options after doing this. Running as administrator doesn't hurt either.

You can always TAB with Alt GT + Ctrl + Del , then click on exit and you see your deskopt
-
Yep, do as Hevar says. Works every time.
1. Click "Esc" to go to game menu
2. Press Ctrl, Alt and Delete
3. Press cancel

Link9rly I will vote for your reply as the most useless on next Argo Oscars. On a serious note: It's not good to add ENB for no reason at all. As MrTrane pointed to the .asi fix, it's the best solution around.
Otherwise it's known that some gta_sa.exe releases are not fluent enough. Many moders include 'edited' version on their ENB/Mod packs.
Or just find your self a Hoodlum exe, moders suggest it runs better than original one

I'm not sure what you know about hardware or software, but you definitely don't know SA lol. Mouse fix doesn't fix the tabbing issue on all installations.
The ENB fix has been the most stable fix I've used. I'm not sure if you know how ENB itself works, but you can disable all additional graphical effects for it. That's why I suggested it, even though OP said he doesn't want it. The only difference would be the intro "ENB loaded" text at the game's intro loading screen. To add to that, a different .exe wouldn't fix this.
The only thing that I failed to describe on op is that I am running samp.exe on Windows 98/ME compatibility. If I don't, it constantly crashes when it finishes to load.
You shouldn't have to run it in compatibility mode. That's one thing SilentPatch is for. It can also have issues if you have gta_sa.exe running in 98 compatibility and samp.exe running without it. I'd set both gta_sa.exe and samp.exe to run as admin like this (http://i.imgur.com/6qMZAPR.png) if you want to use admin on anything. Since you're using .asi files, I'd also suggest disabling DEP for gta_sa.exe. (http://i.imgur.com/kM4bTMa.png) Your milage may very, but it has solved my issues when regarding .asi and .cs mods crashing my game.

I had this issue in the past, I did what Link9rly mentioned in his previous post and the issue was solved, I don't get it, why you've to be salty when he suggests something.

And I will vote for this reply as the most useless argument cause adding the ENB link9 said actually fixed the black screen problem.
