Title: New Lights at Heathrow!
Post by: Trix on January 23, 2008, 12:18:12 pm
I would guess most of you don't know that recently a pilot had to crash land his plane, as for whatever reason he came in far too short just missed a dual carriage way and landed on the grass the other side of the fence at Heathrow airport.

So they have fitted new lights on the runway !

Lights are still used during the day to increase pilot's visibility, not to that extent but hey... Funny picture.

Techically it wasn't that guys fault.
And did you actually know when landing normally, All the pilot does it reverse thrust. He doesnt hold the Flight stick and lines it up.
It was all running smoothly when coming in for land. and he had to take control of a million pound plane without 2 out of i think 4 / 6 engines.
This guy deserves credit.
Regards
Haldir

P.S It is a nice pic

1/2 or 1/3 engines gone can really screw you up in a Landing, no?

 :)

And no, there were no serious injuries. In actual fact, that number of 4 went up to 18+ over a few days when people said "Hey man, I smell a Lawsuit oppurtunity!  :D"

You could land with even 2/4 engines but 1/2 engines isn't possible on most aircraft.

the plane was just gliding because of the missing engines, the engines that were working couldnt get the plane far enough so it would hit the runway...

It's quite clearly stated why he landed short of the runway...
