I think we should be able to fit an automatic/manual/sequential transmission into any owned car, and State vehicles should be random. Anyway, for the manual gearbox, I think we should use the NUMPAD, and you release W (to simulate clutch) and press a number on NUMPAD, and it changes into that gear, and the max gears should be 7 (for supercars) and minimum 4.
Then, Auto. Maybe, we can press LSHIFT or another button, and press P, R, N, D, 2 or L and it goes into that gear, and you drive.
And then, Sequential. For sequential cars, maybe + and - for changing gears.
I also think that a handbrake should be included. The way that would work is to hold down SPACE for 2 seconds, and there comes up a message above the speedometer saying HANDBRAKE Engaged, or a (!) sign. This would help to promote roleplay, and you can pay a fee at a DS or PnS shop and a GUI comes up with various options (elaborated later) and there's a Transmission option and you can change between Auto/Manual.
PnS should also have a GUI with the following options:
Respray
Engine Repair
Body Repair
Transmission
Engine Upgrade
Aerodynamic Upgrade
Respray should give you a color wheel and you respray for $50.
Engine Repair is self-explanatory, same as Body Repair.
Transmission allows you to change your transmission.
Engine Upgrade allows your vehicle to have better handlings, faster acceleration, higher top speeds, supercharging kits (supercharger, intercooler, hardware, the lot (done automatically when you select and purchase the upgrade))
Aerodynamic Upgrade upgrades the aerodynamics, downforce and other body options, like carbon or steel parts.
In terms of this:
If that is added, people gonna a moan a lot because it gives a huge advantage to anyone that knows how to use it
It would literally be as if someone has car-mods on any specific car
Everyone can do this IG, and that's fair, as everyone has the opportunity to do so.
Post your opinion!

That would be more of a hassle to monitor than to use.. and judging by your explanation of how to set it up, I am pretty sure you didn't play Need For Speed with manual gears q.q
Not to mention that using WASD + Numpad leaves no any hands free for the camera control which is one more important factors while driving

That's for those speeding. You can just speed up, slam your car into 3rd and you're all good. Your hand is now free. Also, some people use the hood/dashcam camera.

Why u make it hard messes , just [q] + 1 gear , [e] -1 gear , [z] idle .

But , What about if someone uses a laptop and don't have a Numpad....
It would make the Keyboard just more complicated than Arma III

Why make it so complicated?

For manual cars, maybe + and - for changing gears, and N for Neutral but that becomes a Sequential Gearbox...
-
Updated, with the idea of a sequential gearbox.

What about us who uses a gamepad to play?

Map the keys. If you can not map the keys, use the keyboard for driving?
-
Map the keys? You do realize all of the buttons on a gamepad are being used by the game?
