Music producer and DJ Avicii has been found dead in Oman at the age of 28, his publicist has said.
The Swedish star, whose real name is Tim Bergling, scored two UK number one singles and had collaborated with artists including Madonna and Coldplay.
His publicist Diana Baron said: "The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time."
Avicii, best known for his singles Wake Me Up and Levels, was found dead in Muscat, Oman.
He was considered a pioneer of the contemporary electronic dance music and a rare DJ capable of a worldwide arena tour.
He won two MTV Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award and earned two Grammy nominations.
His death comes just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album for his EP Avicii (01).
The DJ had suffered with acute pancreatitis, which was partly blamed on excessive drinking.
After having his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014, he cancelled a series of shows in attempt to recover.
He quit touring in 2016 but continued making music in the studio.
Tributes poured in from the world of music following news of Avicii's death.
DJ Calvin Harris tweeted: "Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do. My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim x."
Pop star Dua Lipa wrote: "Such sad news to hear about Avicii passing. Too young and way too soon. My condolences go out to his family, friends and fans x."
Former One Direction star Liam Payne said: "Oh my god truly devastated for Avicii. Very very sad news way to young ... what a talent he was. rest in peace x."
Singer Ellie Goulding tweeted: "Rest easy Avicii, you inspired so many of us. Wish I could have said that to you in person x."
Producer and Chic star Nile Rodgers, a friend and collaborator of Avicii's, said he was in tears after hearing the news about his "little bro".
Avicii hit the top of the UK singles charts twice in 2013 with Wake Me Up and I Could Be The One.
He worked with Madonna on the track Girl Gone Wild in 2012 and co-wrote Coldplay's 2014 song A Sky Full Of Stars.
Last year he released the single Lonely Together with singer Rita Ora, which reached number four in the UK.
In a note announcing his retirement from touring in 2016, Avicii said: "I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.
"I will however never let go of music - I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I've decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows."
As a massive fan of his music I am really shocked and sad. Rest in Piece Avicii <3 Your music inspired so many people.

Dying at 28 is such a shame for everyone, let alone Avicii. He got me in that kind of music as well.
Shocking.

It's sad that musicians are inspiring so much people, but many times that's what kills them the fame and the money, and the bad consequences and habits they carry.

One day my father—he told me,
"Son, don't let it slip away"
He took me in his arms, I heard him say,
"When you get older
Your wild life will live for younger days
Think of me if ever you're afraid."
He said, "One day you'll leave this world behind
So live a life you will remember."
My father told me when I was just a child
These are the nights that never die
My father told me
When thunder clouds start pouring down
Light a fire they can't put out
Carve your name into those shinning stars
He said, "Go venture far beyond the shores.
Don't forsake this life of yours.
I'll guide you home no matter where you are."
RIP.

RIP
4 years ago, I was addicted to the music "Don't wake me up", I would like to see him on a stage (LIVE) and now I can't because he's dead.
-
I am not really a fan of the generic EDM, but yet again, Avicii's music could not be called "generic"
This guy had a talent to put some meaning into EDM. I still remember how me and my brother, whom due to certain circumstances I see really rarely, would blast "Hey Brother" in his car.
Why is it that people who make this world a less shitty place have to die so early.
Rest in Peace.

Most of you probably know already but eventually it was not a disease or excessive drinking at least not directly.
Cause of death was announced a few days ago it was a suicide, apparently his family hinted he had serious stress and problems in that field and even he admited and said in several interviews "it will kill me eventually" and he broke a glass bottle and used the shattered glass to cut..
Too many talented artists suicide lately such a lost and shame , money and fame isn't happiness after all.
-
Rest in Peace.

We all get to learn a lesson from this because this is what the mother nature is, if it gave us time we should be humble and straighten our paths for the better good.

The truth is no-one knows when they're going to die, and that's the harsh thing. When God decides your fate, then so be it.
