Title: Autoweather system
Post by: James Conway on September 15, 2018, 08:53:05 pm
We had an autoweather system before, but it was not great and changed weathers too fast. My suggestion is a smoother and more rare version of an autoweather.

We have a couple of weathers.
- Sunny
- Stormy
- Gray/cloudy
- Rain
- Drizzle
- Fog
- Storm/Thunder

After every a certain interval there is a 1% change a type of weather gets activated. 5 minutes of a weather and in order. After 5 minutes the next weather starts. For example:

Storm weather set:
1. Gray and cloudy
2. Stormy
3. Storm/Thunder
4. stormy
5. Gray and cloudy

After that the sun comes back. So the base weather would always be sun. Here's another set of weathers.

Rain weather set:
1. Gray and cloudy
2. Drizzle
3. Rain
4. Drizzle
5. Gray and cloudy

Fog weather set:
1. Gray and cloudy
2. Fog
3. Gray and cloudy

If a weather gets activated after hitting the 1%, an advertisement would also appear. Something like "WEATHER FORECAST: Rain and thunder incoming!"

What are your opinions on this?

Strongly supported. An idea that makes the game even more realistic.

I also would like to see the changing weather system back, supported!
But in addition to decreased chance of changing, it would make more sense to change it to similar mode - storm should not be replaced by instant bright sun, it should be more gradual - become a rain then a drizzle, then a fog (just as an example); sunny should become cloudy in order to get to the rain, etc.
Also, cool idea about forecast messages, but as I understood, it would show the message only when the weather is already changed, so much for a forecast :) . Maybe weather should be actually changed on the next interval: you roll the random, see that weather is going to change to another, show forecast message about that, and on the next iteration you apply your weather and do another roll (or not, to make it last longer).

Edited: I re-read your post and now see that you already suggested a gradual change lol

Thinking of this further, what do you think about some uncertainty?
You see, IRL if it tells you that it is going to rain, actually it may not rain that day.

So, perhaps, there could be some threshold to decide whether to advance on the set or revert back to the base, e.g.:
Sunny -> Cloudy -> Drizzle -> Rain -> Drizzle -> Cloudy -> Sunny
can go as
Sunny -> Cloudy -> Drizzle -> Cloudy -> Sunny
or even as
Sunny -> Cloudy -> Sunny

Maybe forecast could tell us "Weather Forecast: High probability of storm".
Then the system will behave differently - in case of high probability it will more likely complete the cycle through the weather set (for example 90%). But still not mandatory.
In case of low probability (20%?), there will still remain a chance of completing the set, but likely it will revert back to sunny without actually turning into storm.

It looks so much complicated now, but I think that would be interesting to have :) .

If it were to be implemented, it would be cool to be made in the way the Netherlands enjoys its weathers... (aka random and unpredictable)  :lol:

Highly supporting , this would be a really nice touch to make the atmosphere more realistic!
