Title: How to detect a cheat?
Post by: Fatboy_Rob on February 07, 2008, 05:25:10 am
Well, I'll try to explain for you how to detect a cheat on SA:MP
Some cheats are damn easy to detect, but something is not.

IMPORTANT: This is how you users can detect a cheat. Admins got more tools available.

.:: Airbreak ::.
Easy to detect

If a user flying around, through buildings/ground/roads his definantly using a airbreak cheat.
If you see someone do that, immediantly do the following command:
/report ID Airbreak cheater!

.:: Flying cars/Gamespeed ::.
Easy to detect

If you see a car flying around or in an extremely high speed they most likely using flying cars or gamespeed cheat.
If you see someone do that, report it immediantly by typing:
/report ID Flying cars/Gamespeed!

.:: Armour cheat ::.
Easy to detect

Armour is not available at Argonath RPG, you cannot buy it, if you see someone with it, only 1 reason,
1: He is cheating. If you see someone with Armour, report it immediatly by typing:
/report ID Armour cheat!

.:: Health cheat ::.
Little hard to detect

If someone doesnt loose any health when you are shooting them could be 3 reasons,
1: His game is unsynced and cant see you actually are shooting.
2. User is bugged and he cant die, and he probably cant hurt you either
3: He is cheating. If you see someone do that, report it immediatly by typing:
/report ID Possible health cheat!

.:: Weapon cheat ::.
hard to detect

If you see someone shooting you for an extended amount of time, and it dosent seem like they reload, there could be multiple reasons.
1. He is using the 'swap' technique - shoot all bullets except a few before the clip is empty - swap to another gun, then swap back - auto reload.
2. He is cheating. If you sense that someone is doing that, report it immediantly by typing:
/report ID Possible ammo cheat!

.:: Vehicle health cheat ::.
hard to detect

If you see a car being rammed, or shot multiple times without it becoming damaged, or without any smoke, there is only 1 & 1/2 reasons.
1. He is desynced to you, and he dosent see you shooting his car, or desynced to the shooter.
2. He is desynced to you, and to him, he missed the pole - to you, he rammed it and has no damage.
3. He is cheating. If you sense that the user has this cheat, report it immediantly by typing:
/report ID Possible car health cheat!

.:: Important Note ::.
for all users

If you see anything out of the ordinary from another user while playing, report it immediantly by typing:
/report ID Possible cheats!

:ps: Anything i left out?
Post here and ill research it

Nice work Hayden, only one fault that I could pick out.

1. Having armour isnt always hacks. There is desync which gives you Armour, even displayed in your /invent.

The weapon cheat reasons you have explained are good, and admins can quickly catch those cheaters upon reports ;)

It is a good guide for users, and I want to add a few things so that the players know what will happen after report.

First of all, admins will not kick/ban directly on a report of a player. This is to avoid people getting kicked or banned just because someone decided to report them without reason. On a report admins will go to check out the reported person, and if they discover cheats they will act. That is why it is not smart to call 'cheater' in OOC chat. If you report, the cheater will not be alerted and chances of getting caught by an admin are higher. When called in chat, a cheater might not use his cheats, and escape punishment.

Second, in some cases just because you believe someone is cheating it does not have to be true. Especially with health hacks, the cause can be lag or desync.
In such a case, it would be nice if the admin checking will reply the report in a PM so the player will know someone did check it. However admins are not required to do this, because at busy time they might not be able to recall the reporter.

As Hayden said, admins have some tools to check out the reports, and decide. Also most admins have the experience to tell between cheats and other things.
Do not hesitate to report if you believe a player is cheating, but to not flood reports. And especially do not use the function for false reports. Not only do they not work, but also it might get you warned/kicked for abusing the report tool.
