Title: Direct2Drive Conflict?!
Post by: Born Lethal on February 09, 2008, 06:27:17 am

This really pisses me off. At least I've solved 2 problems with the same piece of info. When I downloaded GTA SA I got it through Direct2Drive. That's why I haven't been able to download any mods, and now it seems that's why I can't get onto SAMP servers to play. All because I downloaded it. You know what.....that's more then lame, that's absolutely ridiculous. I've been sitting here for hours learning about how to play online and now I'm screwed.

I do think I came across something previously that allowed you to play online without having the game installed on your drive. Now of course when I need that information I can't find it. It would be great if someone could point out to me what I should do since it seems SAMP servers from Argonath will be useless. If there really are servers out there that allow game play online without the game installed on your system.

That would be a great help. Thanks.  :help:

Ok, I downloaded the patch but now I really don't know what to do with it. You gotta treat me like I'm stupid or something cause when it comes to online rpg I am. When I click to download it I get something asking whether I want to find a program to open or run the file or save it somewhere. So I saved it to my desktop for now but I assume it needs to go in my GTA SA folder but I don't know where or what to do with it after that.

Also, I'm having trouble setting up a connection to a server. It's really giving me a headache, I went to http://sa-mp.com/download.php (http://sa-mp.com/download.php) and under "SA:MP 0.2.2 Windows Server" I downloaded "http://thegtaplanet.net/download/samp022server.win32.zip". Of course this won't work till someone tells me what to do with the no cd patch but I don't know how to set up the connection either. I took a look at the readme file and server setup file but I'm clueless on this stuff.

I hate to sound like an idiot but this fool still needs  :help:

Jesus Christ.

1) You do not download a Server - get the client.
2) Open the .rar with Winrar (go on download.com and search it)
3) Replace the GTA_SA.EXE and the HOODLUM.INFO with the ones in your GTASA.

Hayden, you are forgetting that the Direct2drive is like Steam and protect the files by placing them in a shielded directory.

Born Lethal as what you want to do is basicly something that is not allowed by direct2drive I can not give you the full instructions.

But searching on http://forum.mtasa.com might solve your problem. And it will for SA:MP as well.

Why the hell would D2D protect modification of files? Why do they care? In the readme file for GTA SA it says V.1.00, this is why it was killing me as to why I couldn't mod and now apparently use SAMP.

So above you are saying that if I search in the forum you mentioned that I could solve both my mod problem and SAMP too? And what are you so worried about that you couldn't give me "the full instructions"? Is it that it's just a lot to write down, if it is I can understand that but if not then why not just send instructions via email. I often find searching through forum threads like searching for a needle in a haystack. I'll find many of the same words from my search but none of it is relevant.

At least now I have a better idea of what I'm dealing with, thanks.  :)

Ok, so here is what I found after visiting Gandolf's link. -> http://forum.mtasa.com (http://forum.mtasa.com)  I searched "Direct2Drive problem" and came up with the following. 2 search result matches. Here is the link to what came up after I searched with what is quoted above, http://forum.mtasa.com/search.php (http://forum.mtasa.com/search.php). I clicked the link to the first thread that came up, http://forum.mtasa.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=21582&p=270055&hilit=direct2drive+problem#p270055 (http://forum.mtasa.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=21582&p=270055&hilit=direct2drive+problem#p270055). Then I went to the bottom of that page and clicked "viewtopic", viewtopic.php?f=89&t=21587 (http://viewtopic.php?f=89&t=21587) and read most of that page.

So after reading the above content all I come up with is that I'm screwed and there's no way around D2D's tyrannical tards.
This is D2D,  :hah: And this is me,

Continue searching and you will find the answer there. It is cracking the files, which is illegal. As forum owner I can not give out information on cracking files, however I have seen that it can be done and people have succeeded. Google is your friend.

Alright, sounds like a plan. Hacking files....interesting, in that case I'm not quite as familiar with programming as I'd like. But Google it is.....

When I figure out how to solve this problem would it be against forum rules to post it in this forum thread should anyone have the same kind of problem? I know there are others out there, a few people in exactly the same position as I'm in that I saw on Yahoo Answers.

Thanks again.  :)

SA WEET! So I figured out the whole gta_sa.exe problem.  :hurray: Apparently code in the new version check all the data and code in the gta sa directory to make sure nothing has been altered and if it has been it'll execute but then just sit there and do nothing until you end the process.

So after a few hours of searching I managed to find a place to download and replace the gta_sa.exe file after backing up necessary files and it worked. I then proceeded to download SAMP and TeamSpeak.

Now I do know how to use SAMP to connect to servers but what about Argonath servers? I'm lost there. I went to server list with info but I guess I just dunno what to do. I'm sure I could poke around a bit more to figure it out and I will but hopefully someone could show this poor fool what to do. Sometimes it seems like I'm better at digging things up out of nothing then I am finding things that are right under my nose. Like finding the exe file, it was like I was in the FBI on a serious manhunt.

Anyways, I could use a push in the right direction.  :)

Ok, so I just logged into any server and I'm trying to type in my password and it keeps telling me I'm typing in the wrong pass. It says my nickname is accurate so what's up with my pass??

If there were a emote for pulling my hair out it would be on here!

Passwords are case sensitive.

I know pass are case sensitive. My caps aren't on or anything. I can log into this site w/out problems but not,

Hostname: GTA:League Respect/Cops/Gangs/Houses etc
Mode: GTA:Tournament
Mapname:san andreas
Weburl: gtat.org
IP Add: 212.227.83.76.2086

This server has no one on there right now which is what I want until I get my bearing and start to learn the commands.
So what's up?

I'm sorry, I didn't think about that. When I post I just try to give as much info on what the problem is and what's going on as possible so it's easier for people trying to help. Like I can't stand when other people ask for help in one sentence, like how are you supposed to help when you don't know what is going on?

But it's cool, I'll try this server ASAP.....hopefully it'll let me in.

This is just great. Could someone now tell me why after logging into the below server I'm now under everything??! Literally everything! Ummm......hello? I'm below ground ZERO! On top of that, I'm poor and look like a deffensless bum.

Now that I look like a complete fool, how do I change my character skin?

Oh, yea....first let's solve the problem of why I'm below ground 0. Like the fact that I can't walk on land.  :wow:
