  Challenges

A test of driving mastery and technique, Going Challenges aim to bring out the purest of talent and prowess out of Vice City's racing scene. Do you think you have what it takes to be the fastest on our selection of hand-picked time trials?

Once in a while, Going will drop a new challenge, available for two weeks. Any Argonathian is allowed to take part in the challenge. The goal? Finish the track with the fastest time out of all ( or survive, really depends on what we're going to throw at you )!

There are a few restrictions:
- Challenges must be done with the vehicle specified by the event host.
- You have a maximum of 3 "official" attempts at a challenge, where your time actually counts for the leaderboard. Your personal best out of those 3 will be your final time. You are free to practice as you see fit, however.
- There will be multiple checkpoints scattered around the track, in the form of crates. Passing through every checkpoint at least once is mandatory. The finish line must always be the last checkpoint that is passed in order to validate your time. Other than that, the order in which you go through the rest of the checkpoints does not matter.

-- Challenge Types--

- Time Trial -
A straightforward type of challenge. Drive from point A to point B on a predetermined route in the fastest manner possible. Fastest run wins.

- Delivery -
A challenge where you drive from point A to point B on a predetermined route. However, you have a time limit and score is determined by your car's remaining health. A run is considered valid if the challenger arrives with his car intact at the finish line within the time limit. The driver with the highest remaining car HP wins ( in case two racers have identical car HP, the tiebreaker is the time set on track, in which case the fastest run wins ).

Challenge #1: Bloodring Alleyway

(https://i.imgur.com/OJbA4sQ.png)Type: Time Trial
Vehicle: Bloodring Banger ( Glendale )
Prize: $20,000
Available from: 19-Apr-2021 - 03-May-2021

The Bloodring Glendale is the cool, tuned brother of the characteristically slow Glendale. This is a car designed for Demolition Derbys, but what happens when you take this ramming machine on the road? Specifically, through the narrow alleyways spanning Washington and Ocean Beach?

Starting at Standing Hotel, your goal is to make your way through the alleyways and finish close to the Pole Position Club ( The track begins and ends at a palm tree ). This will take your driving skills to the limit, as the Bloodring is characteristically allergic to sidewalks. Knowing what angle to take the sidewalk at, when to let off the gas and when to brake will be vital in your run. Or, of course, you can always take the wooden pallet jumps if you are feeling like a daredevil.

For the duration of this challenge, a Bloodring Banger will be parked near Standing Hotel, so feel free to do as many practice runs as you want. Contact me in-game or on Discord if you would like to attempt an official run.

This looks like a copy of the VC rally by Aky. Good luck with it though.

Will you be recording every run?

If the event staff cancel a scheduled run and for that you miss the deadline, will you then be denied a chance to participate?

This looks like a copy of the VC rally by Aky. Good luck with it though.

It is indeed mostly inspired by VCRC, but the overall aim of it is to be simpler than the rally tracks. I've heard multiple people say they didn't participate in that because the tracks were "too confusing" to learn.

Will you be recording every run?

Every official run, yes.

If the event staff cancel a scheduled run and for that you miss the deadline, will you then be denied a chance to participate?

We're willing to be flexible in that regard.

A busy day through the alleyways as our first contestants take on the very first Going Challenge!

Eight contestants tried their hand at the Bloodring Alleyway track today. Aky had the honor of setting the initial height of the bar, with a final time of 00:48.17. Numerous attempts were made by other drivers, such as current FTSR champion Kessu, as well as Pyro, Sean, and iliasser, who failed to set the bar higher. Challenge favourite Nylez failed to secure any meaningful time, having forfeited twice during official runs.

However, the finish line was met with thunderous applause today when, out of nowhere, Affanster, on his second official run, stole the show with his time of 00:47.02, driving an aggressive run that paid off despite the numerous close calls. As of now, the best final time belongs to Affanster. Who will be the one dethrone him in the coming days?

The king has been slain yesterday, as Affanster's time was beaten by mere milliseconds! Klaus, the charismatic street cat, pulled off an impressive 00:46.88 on his third official attempt on the track. Now in second place, Affanster has one more shot at the challenge, but will he manage to take his throne back, or will someone else steal Klaus' top podium finish in the coming days?

Challenge #2: Wranglertown

(https://i.imgur.com/6C1XiGF.png)Type: Delivery
Vehicle: Mesa Grande
Time limit: 01:40.00
Prize: $20,000
Available from: 04-May-2021 - 31-Jul-2021

Prepare to roam around (and over) Downtown, as in the next challenge, you will be driving the Mesa Grande, an off-roader with a very bouncy suspension. This means that you might end up rolling your vehicle a couple of times, but the Mesa Grande is painfully easy to recover from a flip.

Starting at the Downtown Skyscraper near the PD, make your way around Downtown by first executing a jump towards the same building that the Skumole Shack is situated on, then jump off and go around the Courthouse, through the parking lot behind it, turning right and making your way to the main road, where you turn left. Follow the road until you reach Jocksports, then carefully navigate your way through Chinatown (we suggest utmost caution here).

Once out of Chinatown, head towards Hyman Stadium and then follow the dirt road near the fishing tent. You should eventually reach a bumpy dirt track (you might know this one from the Cherry Poppers Motorcross event). Avoid it completely and instead turn a sharp right, then keep going until you reach the main road. Head through the narrow alleyway to your right and make your way around the parking lot below you until you end up in the parking lot behind V.A.J Finance. Keep going forward and over the bumps until you enter a narrow off-road alleyway ending with a set of stairs. Take the jump and do your best to land on your wheels.

Your run is considered complete if you finish with a time under 01:40.00, with your vehicle intact. The timer stops once all of your four wheels are touching the ground. Remember that this is a Delivery: this means that your remaining car HP is the deciding factor here. The higher the car HP, the better.

First of all: Great challenge, looking forward to it!
What I was wondering is if there is any rule regarding following the dirt track from stadium, past the dock to the other dirt track used in the CPME?

Your description just says follow it, not be exactly on it.

You can go off the dirt road, I don't mind. Just make sure you don't end up flipped over :)

Since no official runs have been done yet...

Introducing STYLE POINTS

We know that there can only be one winner in a challenge. But what about those who have won the hearts of the spectators? This is where STYLE POINTS come in!

You might not have driven the fastest run, but you certainly have driven the sickest run if you are at the top of this leaderboard. Based on the stunts you perform, you will receive a certain amount of style points:

- Front or backflip: 250pts
- Wallgrind: 200pts
- Corkscrew: 200pts
- Drift: 50pts per 0.5s ( must be at least 1 second long, points cancelled if driver spins out )
- Airtime: 50pts per 0.5s ( must be at least 1 second long, counts in aerial stunts like flips and corkscrews )

Landing upside down for aerial stunts will cancel any potential points.

The contestant with the highest amount of STYLE POINTS will receive a bonus prize of $5,000!

( disclaimer: the system in place right now is experimental, I may or may not make changes to it in between challenges, or shelf it entirely )

System currently removed from challenges.

Going Challenges are scheduled to make a return soon after being postponed due to personal issues on my part and low participation rate.

With this occasion, I would like to invite participants from the previous edition to share their feedback on the event. What did you like/dislike about the first challenge? Would you be willing to participate in challenge #2? If not, what are the reasons?

I liked the simplicity of the first challenge. I won't be participating in the second as I feel the new track doesn't follow the same principles as the first. It's too long and reminds me more of the VC rally. It also involves so many stunts I feel like its more suited to stuntmen at Prawn Island film studio rather than a two-time FTSR champion racer like myself.

All I see is excuses from your end to prevent losing. What happened to challenging yourself outside of your comfort zone to try and improve in every aspect of racing. Come on man.

I don't need excuses for anything. Prevent losing? I have nothing to prove. I'm the current Going Challenge gold medalist, and two time FTSR champion. I'm an avid racer, but I draw the line at jumping across highrise buildings and driving through pedestrian walkways like Chinatown. It's reckless by Going setting up something like this.

Thank you for the feedback.

For Challenge #3, I will attempt to tailor a track to fit some of the requests I've seen. This should include a shorter, easy to remember track, as well as less mandatory daredevil-style stunt elements.

Challenge #2 will continue, but with the style points system removed (this is more due to the tedious nature of accounting for each stunt in a run), with a new deadline set on July 31st (10 days). The records set so far are still valid. Contact me in-game or tag me on Discord if you wish to do an official run.

The post for Challenge #2 has also been updated accordingly.

Challenge #3: Turburlent Neighbourhood

(https://i.imgur.com/BEsSRHb.png)Type: Time Trial
Vehicle: Infernus
Prize: $30,000
Available from: 01-Aug-2021 - 29-Aug-2021

In this challenge, you will be driving an exotic beast - the Infernus - through the slums of Little Haiti and the off-road inbetween Little Havana and Escobar International Airport. This Italian classic packs a lot of raw power, but how good are you at handling raw power?

Starting at a questionable graffiti near Little Haiti's shack area, make your way south along the off-road alleyway. You can either take the jump on the wooden ramp or skirt around it, but be warned - the jump is extremely risky, as you might end up hitting a wooden pole or on the roof of a shack. Next, follow the road south. After passing the T junction and the second wooden pole following it, make a sharp turn right and follow the narrow alleyway that leads to Printworks. Drive through Printworks' building tunnel then follow the narrow alleyway slightly to the left of you ( watch out for the wooden pole in the way! ).

Cross the road to the other side, through the alleyway, then make a sharp turn left. Follow the dirt mound in front of you and go through the area littered with billboards and palm trees. Once you pass the second to last palm tree, your run is finished.

This track is shorter than the norm, but don't let that fool you - you will need to give it your all to score a competitive time.

Introducing the SEASONAL LEADERBOARD

Starting from Challenge #4, Going Challenges Season 1 will be kicking off! Seasons are being introduced to promote consistent participation to events. This means that even if you do not win a challenge, you still have a chance to win one of the big Seasonal prizes by placing yourself high on the leaderboard!

How does this work?

Each season consists of five challenges. Once a challenge is over, the top 5 times are awarded points on the Seasonal Leaderboard, displayed here (https://www.argonathrpg.eu/index.php?topic=129656.msg2007470#msg2007470). At the end of a season, prizes are given to the top 3 contestants on the Seasonal Leaderboard.

For one challenge completed in the top 5, the points are distributed as follows:
#1 - 10 points
#2 - 8 points
#3 - 6 points
#4 - 4 points
#5 - 2 points

What if two or more people obtain the same number of points at the end of a season?

They will participate in a Going Showdown! A random time trial track will be selected, and the contestants will have a single chance to get the highest time between themselves. The time order on said tracks will then decide the Season winners. Alternatively, a contestant can forfeit their position to the others if they do not wish to take part.

SEASON 1 PRIZES
Season winners will be awarded the following prizes:

#1 - Bloodring Banger (Glendale) OR Cash Reward ($120,000)
#2 - Cash Reward ($60,000)
#3 - Cash Reward ($30,000)

Challenge #4: Glued to the Dirt

(https://i.imgur.com/mrHIyjM.png)Type: Time Trial
Vehicle: Washington
Prize: $20,000
Available from: 23-Oct-2021 - 6-Nov-2021

This challenge will be all about handling and control. You will be driving the Washington, a bulky and elegant 4-door with a unique characteristic which I like to call the "Magnet Wheels Syndrome". See the demo to understand why.

Pick up the designated white Washington from the stairs neighboured by a state-owned red Idaho in Downtown, close to the fishing tent. You will want to drive off and get yourself on the dirt road near Hyman Stadium as soon as possible. Follow the dirt road (you can cut the road on grass, I do not mind) until you get on grass and the dirt racing track appears in front of you. Here, you can choose to either go around it or drive straight over it. After getting over the dirt track, you will be driving on grass again. Keep following the wall to your left until you are under the bridge connecting Prawn Island and Downtown. Then, get off the grass and back on the road and then taking a left. The challenge is over once you pass the blue traffic sign near the stairs.

Good luck!

Starting from the next Challenge, a few changes will be made:

- The stopwatch used for timing will be improved, expect more accurate times -
- A checkpoint system will be phased in. What this implies is that you can drive wherever you want during the challenge, as long as you pass through all the checkpoints (in any order you want) before passing the finish line. Time to get creative on track, people! -

The second challenge of this season will be delayed. A central piece of equipment in the next track was recently liquidated to pay off court debts. The team is currently looking into possible solutions.

Challenge #5: North Point Wall

(https://i.imgur.com/ztkN0WJ.png)Type: Time Trial
Vehicle: Blista Compact
Prize: $20,000
Available from: 08-Aug-2022 - 22-Aug-2022

This is the first challenge to incorporate the new checkpoint system.

Pick up the Blista Compact parked in the alleyway behind Shelton Hotel in Vice Point (property #183). You will have to pass through three checkpoints (marked with crates), in any order you want, before you pass through the finish line. The first checkpoint is located near the western entrance to North Point Mall, the second checkpoint is through the western ramp near the North Point Apartments (property #173), and the last checkpoint is near the ramp to the southeast of Scarlet Hotel (property #186). Check the map for reference. Two Packers have been parked appropriately to aid you in your runs.

Once you pass through all the checkpoints, make your way to the finish line as fast as you can, which is located to the south of North Point Mall, in the direction of the Prawn Island bridge, where the staircase is located.

Good luck!

Challenge #6: Lamppost Grazer

Vehicle: Idaho
Prize: Idaho VC-C1751 OR $37,500
Available from: 12-Oct-2022 - 10-Dec-2022

Are you ready for a new technical track featuring the Idaho?

This track may look simple on paper, but don't be fooled. You will be fighting for milliseconds on the leaderboard in this challenge as you attempt to chain powerslide after powerslide in the front-heavy Idaho through Vice Point's alleyways. Watch out for the lampposts!

This track features three closely-connected checkpoints. Can you find any shortcuts during your practice runs?

Good luck!

We've added an extra checkpoint as a cautionary measure in case Lewis Hamilton complains about unfair daredevil stunt shortcuts  :)

Title: Going Challenge #7 - Hole In One
Post by: Hype on January 18, 2023, 10:30:30 pm
Challenge #7: Hole In One

(https://i.imgur.com/VGZTrav.png)Type: Time Trial
Vehicle: Stallion
Prize: $30,000
Available from: 19-Jan-2023 - 12-May-2023

If slide machines and tricky off-road tracks are your thing, you will feel right at home.

This track will test your pathfinding and control skills. You will be driving the Stallion, a rear-wheel drive powersliding machine that requires no small amount of finesse to keep from spinning out of control. Combine that with the narrow and bumpy paths of the Leaf Links golf course and you're in for a real difficulty spike compared to the previous track.

Why pathfinding skills in particular? This track features a grand total of two checkpoints, not including the finish line. This will test your skill at finding your way on the golf course, dodging all the puddles and palm trees, navigating through narrow stretches of road, and - I cannot stress this enough - bumps in the road that will send your car upside down.

For those with the necessary skill, you will find it possible to make the track feel quite fluid. For the others... good luck.

Tip for the end section: Follow the golf flags!
