Title: SA:MP 0.2.5 News
Post by: WDoyle on March 20, 2008, 01:43:50 pm
With all the hard work of the SA:MP development team, They have now released the following information there blog about SA:MP 0.2.5:

SA:MP Website Quote:

As I mentioned in the previous news post, 0.2.5 will likely be the last SA-MP release. But we're not going out without a bang. What happens when you take the 0.1 player limit, add the 0.2 player limit, multiply by 3.3 recurring then divide by 2? That's right, you get a close approximation of 500 - which is the 0.2.5 player limit.

We have rewritten large portions of the SA-MP dedicated server and now the hard limits on players and vehicles comes down to server CPU and bandwidth.

In 0.2.5 we have taken advantage of this new server system and raised the vehicle limit to 2000 with virtually unlimited amount of vehicle models. This isn't just some theoretical limit either, we're working on a new script to replace lvdm which will cover all of San Andreas. The SA-MP beta team has been hard at work and have placed 2000 vehicles in these reusable lists.

Click the map for a plot of all 2000 vehicles. Each colour represents a reusable vehicle list.
(http://www.sa-mp.com/media/025_vehicles.gif) (http://www.sa-mp.com/media/025_vehicle_plot.png)

Here's most of the new things you'll see in SA-MP 0.2.5:

- New player limit 500 and vehicle limit 2000.
- Tick/sync rates can now be adjusted from the server along with the streaming radius.
- Up to 2 billion virtual worlds (all server controlled).
- The server maintains an accurate position of all vehicles, even when they're not being driven.
- Visible damage on vehicles is now synced.
- Many overall sync improvements including vehicle riding, lag compensation.
- Players can now have different fighting styles.
- Trains can now drive on both tracks and each carriage can have 5 passengers.
- Many new scripting functions added.
- All 0.2.2 scripts will be compatible with 0.2.5.
- Solved issues with TextDraws and Menus.

There was a vehicle audio problem in previous releases that caused vehicles driven by other players, usually helis and planes, to become silent. This has been fixed in 0.2.5 and adds greatly to the overall feel of the game.

We have never released a version of SA-MP without first testing any new limits or features. That means over the next few weeks we intend to have a public beta and populate San Andreas with 500 players. This will be a very unique event in online gaming. If you would like to participate, keep and eye on the sa-mp.com main page as we'll be announcing the details there before the public tests start.

Any finally, we have put together a new video showing some of the improvements to syncing in 0.2.5:

Sounds like 0.2.5 will solve most of our current issues. Means that we can put pack our original script ideas without having to worry about crashes.

What I was thinking is that the car system could be like the old one, but cars that you buy remain there. (i.e. you spawn it from a cardealer, and then /delivercar, and voila you just made a carspawn, even when you're offline :D)

I doubt any server would get 500 people on at a time...

You'd also need one hell of an internet service on the host side.

Because 0.2.5 is more stable, better synched and car limit increased, it will allow the developers to use more advanced car ownership system (as was originally planned at the beginning of the 0.2 scripts) so the cars will probably be reset. Otherwise as the scripts are compatible the house/ businesses and money is likely to remain the same. There may also be a possibility for more businesses is the pickup limit has been increased.

1. If the main target was - to decrease unsync - then I am happy...
If to set 500 players and 2000 cars to pwn MTA:SA - then we are in trouble...

If the problem with unsync will not be fixed - no 500 players no 2000 cars...

2. 500 players on server? What is the point? What to prove?

That it will be a trouble for admins - for sure...
10 admins will not handle 490 players... I do not talk even about IDs of players to use the correct command for kick or ban... How the hell admin will scroll all 490 players to find the guy?

10 admins - 100 players = "OMG! Admins do not want to listen to me!"
10 admins - 500 players = *********omg...
50 admins - 500 players = *********omg...
50 admins - 500 players = 50 complains with/without reason...

All developers should do - to sit and check every complain or just to start ignore complainers...

500 script accounts the same time active? I am afraid to suppose what can happen with server...

3. More admins - less admin control... This will increase not only rulebreakers but abuse in admins team...

Right now we have around 30 admins I think - not much... 100 admins and on each - complain and report "He kicked me, he banned me"...

So I have no idea what is the point of increasing server possibilities to 500 players...
Better concentrate on unsync problems and finish the work till it will not be perfect...

Then we can bring our original script which supposed to be...

Hmm. I was just kidding. Maybe 100 is not too much players then. I prefer 150 players
Dont remember but right now was car limit 700-800. And if we add some rp cars more and some good cars too i think 1000 is enough or what u guys think?

looks pretty good , 500 players would make the city alive , yet it would take time to build up. Right now whenever we have the avg 80-100 people only 30-40 actually rp while others are new and are spamming for help. in which we could increase the ammount in time yet not jsut 500 on the first week.

one thing giving me a thought was when gta 4 comes out SAMP WILL DIE , it will be low for a good month maybe two , leaving the samp client very dry. only 10000 - 25000 people play samp a day , and ussualy 2000-4000 at a time, so the 10 big server leages will control a huge ammount of population.

Title: Re: SA:MP 0.2.5 News

i doubt it , their servers have " time being players " meaning they spike in players who come in to play around and leave like i do , most people dont have a huge score maybe 100 or 200 kills so its not like they have regular 250 players , just a couple of people who happen to fall to the " which server has highest players i should join " moment . as for our server 70-80%  are regulars and its been growing fast since were getting alot more regulars.

Guys, We cannot just take on an extra 150 players. For this to work successfully sauron may have to purchase a new server.
We do not know whether 0.2.5 will be more demanding and if it is, we might not upgrade over 250 due to it will effect the server hardware.

If the server will be in trouble, then good luck to all other hosts, as our is one of the top available on the market.
More likely the amount of people counts on having a DM script of 1000 lines.
Increase the script = increasing memory and data flow.

I suppose 500 slots are only for DM servers (deathmatch)...

Otherwise the RP servers should decrease their scripts features, as I do not think servers can run 500 roleplayers with 500 script accounts, that check all stats, timers and actions... Do not forget that for Deathmatch you do not need a huge scripts and a huge admins group... So 500 slots SA:MP prepares for DM servers...

Checking on hacks is not the same as checking on hacks, scripts abuse, attack without reason, money cheat, carkills, ramming, jacking, using glitch areas, houses, cars, properties, licenses and passports, events control, etc....
Admins will not simply be available to control such amount...

Also do not forget, that 0.2.2 version opened 200 slots possibility... Did you see servers that fully use this possibility? As soon as servers were opened, they decreased slots back to 100, as had troubles... Its because when they test - they have 10 testers... With 10 people our server is also good without crashes... Happens bad things when server goes crowded (out of test parameters)...

So I doubt there will be 500 testers checking the servers stability of ROLEPLAY mode (fully RPG scripted test server)... What it means? It means we are making a script for 500 slots and 2000 cars, testing it with Rockstars clan, releasing "woohoo", and got in troubles with 100 players online... Right what happened when we opened 0.2.2 with our new and original script...

Guys, there is one big problem.
Quote from: Kye date=1206438347
SA-MP 0.2.5 will simply verify that you have the DVD. If you have the DVD then don't worry, you'll still be able to play even if it's the Australian, German DVD etc.

Looks like a fair number of us will either have to go buy GTA SA or even move to MTA:SA.
We need action taking, Argonath needs to rise together and form a petition and sign it and make SA:MP so it can play even without a DVD.

That is not good ... I got the DVD, but many people will 'burn out' if its made with original DVD ... I think this is not a good idea, as the ammount of players on SA:MP will dramaticly fall and the playing won't be so 'interesting'. I think that it was Rockstar games, who made SA:MP developers to make that system, so the piracy won't raise ...

2400 vehicles in RPG server all over SA will make RP much better, you'll have to fit lots of cars into small towns also, not like at the moment. Maybe around 700 vehicles in city, etc.

That really gives scripting a better go + The VehicleVelocity things we can see in the trailers means BYE to speed hackers and some other scripting functions seem like really good.

1) When 0.2.5 is gonna be released?
2) Will i have to buy a GTA:SA original copy?
3) Is there gonna be a massive accounts wipe? Will everything (accounts etc) be deleted/reseted?

1) Unknown date, but as 0.2.5 is probably last SA-MP release, we don't want it fast and bugged. Make it perfect may take time.
2) Probably yes, when you can't find a way to bypass Securom 7
3) From what? SA-MP, Argonath? There will be no account wipe on SA-MP, since there are none actually.

No, because the 0.2.2. scripts are not being rewritten (merely amended with many new cool things) there will be no account wipe.  :D

Even if saving system is going to change, it is not hard to make file write variables when checking.

Regarding vehicles, we put 1.400 in the MTA:SA server and you will have to walk around to find them.  ;)
As for other options, I will be happy if I can use all the features that were brought with 0.2.2 in one server without people crashing out.
The DVD check seems like a lame April fool joke more than something they would wish to develop.

Thats cause they are all parked in the parking lots. There's so much cars on the parking lots that I have trouble choosing.
e.g below the highway, that parking lot has about 50 cars.

The dvd-check was a joke. It's not our job to enforce copyright law. Although, we will never support software piracy here and we encourage people to do the right thing and purchase the game if you haven't already.

Well guys :D Cya in 0.2.5. We are starting developement very soon for it.
Enjoy

Discontinuation of SAC

While SAC (SA-MP Anti-cheat) was by far the most effective anti-cheat system we've ever had in SA-MP, we no longer have the resources to maintain such a system.

Since SAC was able ban players across all SAC protected servers, it transformed SA-MP from a multiplayer mod into a software gaming service. It was not the original intention of this project to become a gaming service.

The anticheat directive in the server configs will no longer function and SAC will be completely removed from future SA-MP releases.

In other news, we've decided that the next SA-MP release will be 0.2.5. This will be the interim release between 0.2.2 and 0.3. We have been working very hard and there's already many fixes and new features added. More details soon.

Current Development Status: 70 %

Sorry, you are right.  I just checked the SA:MP website too late.

Question: If Argonath will update to 0.2.5, we will lose all our money / properties again ? That would be so hard, i hope it is possible to transfer the invent of each player.

No Carhartt, if you look at the news release properly you'll see that it was posted on 27th january 08, the reason why you probably think it's true is because the two lastest news releases were moved to the blog page so naturally the older post went to the top of the page and looked like a new news release

After a recent plan regarding the official list kind of backfired, SA:MP was attacked by DDOS attacks.
This caused them to close operations (temporarily) and they are now bringing it back 'scaled down'.
This means that there is no official confirmed status for 0.2.5, and that the 'official server list' is closed.

And did you though about that this 'Grand Larceny' thing can have a diffrent scripting program? And then the script for SAMP may be useless ... Who knows. You should think a little and not only ask for the god damn money ...

hahahaha ... if pwn4ge managed to find it, that I believe every single hacker would find it, only by typing 'SA-MP Development' in Google ...

The hackers may be as*holes, but they are not stupid (especially the good ones). If that guy who hacked SAMP was rejected from their Dev. team, he may want to take SAMP to the ground. And moving their site won't help ....

Kye and the few developers that are actually left are still developing, R3 is proof in itself. R3 has some 0.2.5 features in it, so even if it dosn't get released, I'm confident we'll get new features through security updates in the future.

Since the code of 2.5 has leaked and therefore made security treats, whats left of devs are compleatly revriting code for 2.5 so it will come out just a bit latter than planed...

google has some good news if u know where to look....
