Title: SAMP is getting B**** Slapped by attacks
Post by: X~Shaheen~X on April 06, 2008, 05:03:50 pm
ALL official servers are down and getting attacked , im expecting a samp news post any time now to stop these attacks. Some of the unofficial but popular servers are also down, i noticed a single official server comes up and then it gets shut down in 10 seconds , look it up and see if you can see a pattern of names. servers hit 4 players and it dies, someone is shooting them down.

(( Yes, my favourite server (I'm not saying which one due to the no advertising rule) is down due to this.  Their host said he could not host them anymore because everytime they get attacked, it affects the whole host.  Whoever is behind these attacks, I hope they get arrested, and punished severely.  It's little things like this that make them to grow up into big time criminals.  There are so many servers experiencing DDoS attacks now.  Whenever Argonath gets attacked, and it cannot connect after the restart, I quit the game, and look at the ping of Argonath.  Whenever it gets attacked it's well over twenty five thousand (25,000) for at least five minutes. ))

There is no law against this. It's not even considered hacking. There is no confidential information stored in any SAMP server. Therefore identity-theft is out of the question. If you think someone could get arrested for pissing 100 gamers off...you should read about valid laws xD

If you can get the IP of a hacker (Im sure you can, because when you enter a SA:MP server it shows the IP address and not the subnet mask) you can make his PC and gaming life mizerable.  :devroll:

There are Laws against ddos attacks as they do not just fly in the car or have health-hacks...
It attempts to ruin the internet connections itself and affects on many things: traffic, software/hardware...

also ddos attacks have hacked sites like ebay thus it was the time they made the law , so it is actually punishable in some sort of manner. im not sure what the current law is but i know there are regulations.

Myself, Gandalf were in contact with a main SA:MP developer last night and we discussed about this.
We are trying as hard as we can to prevent this from happening.
We are sorry about all these hackers but Gandalf, Aragorn and Sauron will be taking legal action against all these little children behind there computers.
Regards
Haldir

I would like to inform people these atacks dont mean they hacked any server

Ddos Means distributed denial of service meaning the 'hacker' or 'hackers' overload the server with join requests (information) , meaning they just send large ammounts of information up to a point the server can no longer handle all incoming transmissions (the server or line are overloaded) so they dont actually come in .. they just nail the door shut. there is no real hacking invloved

The type of attack and port is defined, but other than vigilance and some small measures there is little to be done. At times of attack we will run a server on port 7778 for our regular player to connect to.

in some servers....its enough to flood the hell out of it to kill it :S

and to Legend ( i think u said that): Well with an IP u can not hack anyone ( thats what i heard), u need at least some trojans or so to kick his ass so nice^^

I assure you, there is no law (This could just be America) against internet hacking, under non-confidential circumstances.

A few years ago me and a friend hacked the AISD (My school district's) main server and deleted every failing grade from our transcripts. The only punishment we got was less than 4 hours in an office. As there was not any confidential information stored on this server, nothing was important. Just backed up grades. We were only caught because the bastard decided to be a bitch and report me for $50 (A cash-for-clues thing we have in Texas.) The officer told me himself, there is no punishable law against hacking, unless you are tampering with something that could even potentially be used for Identity Theft.
